This generation of cartoons are so - obnoxious
mckayleesmom wrote: Mckaylee and Russell wanted me to cut up a watermelon for them, so Im standing in the kitchen cutting and all I can hear is some annoying little character on a cartoon repeat over and over again "VICTORY IS OURS"....Seriously...after 40 times of him saying that..I think they realized he won....geesh. Here I thought Dora repeated herself too much.
Teesa®© replied: I hate dora with a passion It finally got to the point where I won't let the children watch her anymore
mckayleesmom replied: Im just glad that both my kids aren't interested in her anymore...unless nothing else is on.
They love the old cartoons like Scooby Doo and Baby loony tunes.........At least those don't make me feel like Im going insane.
stella6979 replied: Ugh, Avery is just now starting to like Dora and Spongebob and I can't stand either of them.
DVFlyer replied: I actually like Spongebob. Worthless comedy.
Dora is ok, I just wish it was all in english. Seems like they walk that fine line fairly well, though.
I'll take either of the above cartoons over Emily Yeung (or however you spell it) and Daniel Cook.
stella6979 replied: Ok, I actually do find Spongebob a little funny, but not so much for kids. They use too many words that we don't allow in our house....like STUPID for example.
And how can you not like Emily Yeung?!! I love her!!!!
DVFlyer replied: That's true... a lot of times I find myself thinking "oh, I wish she didn't hear THAT".
I'll pretend I didn't read the part about Emily Yeung. I'd hate to have to report you to the Admins. I'm fairly certain you just violated Forum Rule 5.4.5 sub chapter 8:
" at no point should any positive reference to Emily Yeung be made".
Calimama replied: I love Dora. Miabella's learned a lot from her.
jcc64 replied: I think Dora is adorable, though Corey's not much interested in her anymore. I think Spongebob is hilarious, though much of what I find funny about it goes over her head. I hate alot of the cartoons on Nick such as Fairy Odd Parents--they're witless, badly drawn, and just annoying.
~Roo'sMama~ replied: Yeah they've gotten pretty bad. When we actually had cable, I still only put PBS kids on for Andrew. There were a couple on nick jr. that I liked though.
Cece00 replied: Dora is actually pretty educational. Much better than Spongebob.
But hello, doesnt anyone remember Ren & Stimpy? How can anyone say cartoons these days are obnoxious compared to THAT??
Teesa®© replied: I LOVED Ren and Stimpy!!
I used to love South Park, too, but it got old fast.
Danalana replied: I sat bring back the good cartoons...Bugs Bubby, Daffy Duck, Sylvester and Tweety, Coyote and Road Runner, etc...I hate cartoons now!
A&A'smommy replied: UGH I can't hardly stand to watch cartoons with alyssa because most of them get on my nerves BUT i do because there are SO many that are incredibly innapropriate LIKE the fairly oddparents there was one show where one of the fairies was singing "I'm too sexy for my shirt" and stripping I changed it immediatly.... Daniel cook is SOOOOOOO beyond annoying.. about the only one I like anymore is "Ni-Hao Kai-lan" I LOVE it
Danalana replied: I just want to add that I was holding Kade and typing with one hand when I posted before. I obviously don't do well with that
MoonMama replied: You know the kids show that I can't stand is Yo Gabba Gabba!
Danalana replied: I haven't even heard of most of these
MoonMama replied: Oh honey you will!
jcc64 replied: Just wanted to point out that people have been complaining about cartoons almost since the beginning of well, cartoons. Bugs Bunny and particularly The Road Runner are incredibly violent, and people always wrung their hands over the fact that Daffy Duck could get his head blown off one minute, and then magically reappear intact and unharmed in the next cell. Tom and Jerry, the same thing. I think kids ARE capable of making the distinction between reality and fantasy in the case of cartoons, unlike many live action shows aimed at this demographic, and then don't get me started on the commercials. Corey's been pestering me to get these things you stick in potted plants so you don't have to water them yourself. I said, honey, it's time to turn off the tv.
gr33n3y3z replied: Cartoons are about as obnoxious as most people in real life.
punkeemunkee'smom replied:
Taylor just told me the other day that our flowers may not have died if we had those! I laughed so hard and told her they would have-those kind of flowers don't last through the summer here. It was funny to me that she was swayed by the commercial.
About the cartoons-some of them are just downright rude and annoying! Thankfully Taylor still watches several of the shows that are on Noggin (Ms, Spider, Backyardagains, etc) It makes me sad though because she has made us promise not to tell her 'friends' because they make fun of those baby shows
mckayleesmom replied: I love the Backyardigans
Crystalina replied: Yes, we all watched Tom chase Jerry with a knife and stab him and spill ketchup at the same time to get that blood effect and I remember it was all over the kitchen walls, counters and floors. It looked like a murder scene. If Spongebob were to do that we would all freak!! We lived through Tom and Jerry gruesome fights and Elmer Fudd chasing Bugs through the wood with his 12 gauge, and let's not forget Bug Bunny in drag...all the time.
My kids are just about over the newer cartoons (due to so many re-runs) and have now started watching the Boomerang Cartoon Network with all those great violent cartoons. I lived watching those and so will they.
I just think that today's cartoons give the kids more of a smart mouth then anything else.
Celestrina replied: Let's not forget Warner Bros. animated stalker - Pepe le Pew! He would regularly lock the one he has his eye on in a room and force her to try to kiss him.
Kentuckychick replied: Lol! This is a classic post!!
I was just thinking about this the other day when I was babysitting and the kids were watching cartoon network. I can't stand those new cartoons... Ben 10, Billy and Mandy and for the good Lord's sake that ignorant squirrel boy show!!! They make me want to rip my hair out.
Seriously though... whatever happened to the good ole communist Smurfs??
luvbug00 replied:
first off.......................
REN & STIMPY RULE!!!!!!
secound one of the creators of Ren & Stimpy was the creator of spongebob. Remember in ren and stimpy all those extreme close up's of hair buggers and other discusting things?? same deal on spongebob. hece why spongebob is a little adult humorized. they know adults who loved R&S as kids would love to watch spongebob and enjoy it with their kids. We heart spongbob at our house.
Kentuckychick replied: Lol! I didn't like Ren and Stimpy much when I was little... but I LOVED "Doug"...
gr33n3y3z replied: I still watch Ren & Stimpy
Doug was cool I liked that show and also Rocket power you know the kids on the skate boards and I liked to watch so many cartoons when I was young like Witch winnie witch Jabber Jaws Wally Alligator Speed Racer Hillbilly Bears Banana Split show
youngmomofone replied: I hate that show on pbs about that little boy that whines all the time...Calliou or something like that? I rather dd watch spongebob and dora all day than to see that kid whine and whine.
A&A'smommy replied: I LOVE the smurfs and surprisingly Alyssa does too
A&A'smommy replied: LOVE LOVE them especially doug!!!!
I have always hated Ren & stimpy and Spongebob... but my husband, father and daughter love spongebob
TheOaf66 replied: how could anyone forget
Happy Happy Joy Joy Don't wiz on the electric fence
one of my fav episodes is when they were selling rubber nipples
Crystalina replied: DH liked them and also Beavis and ButtHead. Ugh! They drove me nuts!
ETA: I can't forget the Simpsons. I don't get them.
stella6979 replied: I hated the cartoon, but thought the movie was HILARIOUS!!! I myself love King of the Hill! We watch it every Sunday faithfully.
luvbug00 replied: Classic!
**ren & stimpy clip of log song**

**and yack shaving day!** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oGBJIP9wci4
ohh so not child appropriate for some
Celestrina replied: Happy Happy Joy Joy (click for link)
Ah, a classic
Crystalina replied: I've heard those are funny (and Family Guy), but I've never watched any of them. The kids are always still awake and I don't want them thinking it's okay to watch grown-up cartoons when I'm not around. That little thing on Family Guy (is it a baby?) can be vulgar in the previews so I can only imagine what it does in the cartoon.
cameragirl21 replied: I think cartoons in principle are pretty obnoxious and probably not really good for children. Our generation of cartoons had people constantly bombing each other and dropping anvils on each others' heads, Sylvester wanting to eat Tweety, Tom wanting to eat Jerry, etc. When I was little I really liked the smurfs, Flintstones and Tom and Jerry, among others. I always did wonder why cartoons were so violent, though, and why it is that in a movie or show with real people in it, when someone died they stayed dead whereas in cartoons, someone got bombed and then got up and walked away....
stella6979 replied: Oh, I detest Family Guy but Jeff loves it. I'm really not much of a cartoon person but I do love King of the Hill and American Dad.
luvbug00 replied:
Stewie is a baby, a very vulger offencive baby and that show is NOT for kids. It's very un politically correct ( which i love so much) and it's just plain discussting at times. you have to have a very dark dry sence of humor and not get offended by jokes about racisam, diseases and sexuality. they are, after all, jokes. But we have the whole collection of seasons on DVD and we are huge fans.
TheOaf66 replied: Yes Family Guy is at the top of my list at the current time for cartoons
jcc64 replied: Family Guy RULES, though I still can't figure out how they get so much past the network censors....
Danalana replied: I never watch that stuff...animated people annoy me
Crystalina replied:
Teesa®© replied: I'm a sucker for Dave the Barbarian, Kim Possible, Totally Spies, Scooby Doo, Princess Sissi, Pingu [ ], Gargoyles, Codename: Kids Next Door, Batman [but only the Animated Series], Braceface, Disney's Recess, Marvin the Tap Dancing Horse, Blues Clues [but only with STEVE!!!!!] and Doodlez [only a 1 or 2 minute cartoon placed as a "filler" where the boy never gets what he wants and is erased and redrawn repeatedly].
Remember when Sesame Street was on ALL DAY?!?!?! Now, you can't ever find it on TV
DillsMommy replied: I adored Sesame Street. That's all I wanted to watch as a kid. Ernie (sp?) was my favorite. I would get so mad when my dad would watch M*A*S*H because it was on at the same time as Sesame Street.
Crystalina replied: I tried SS with my kids when they were younger (toddlers) and they would not watch it but in the last month or so I've been turning it on for them and they don't even blink! I'm glad they enjoy something that I once enjoyed. I was a SS fanatic.
holley79 replied: Well Annika is hooked on Noogin and I figure her watching Noogin is better then her watching cartoons killing each other and then regenerating again. Don't get me wrong I love the classics but at least there is some education with the Noogin cartoons.
HuskerMom replied: I hate Calliou! We never watch it, it's incredibly annoying.
Keith and I watched Tom & Jerry today and he loved it. He also really like Bugs Bunny and all the rest of the looney tunes. It's kind of cool that he likes some of the same cartoons that I used to like as a kid. And he loves the smurfs.
Jamison'smama replied: I think most of the cartoons are fine but Lisa...I didn't think anyone on the board would remember Banana Splits!!!! I watched it religiously on Saturday mornings! Also there were the Sid and Marty Krofft shows that rocked!
Jack watches Power Rangers every day so I see more than my share of commercials about the plant watering thing and the pan to make PANCAKE PUFFS. I actually bought a pancake puff pan a couple of weeks ago.
DVFlyer replied: Ren and Stimpy - awesome. Family Guy, Simpsons - awesome.
I saw a quote the other day that brought memories of another cartoon I liked in my "after childhood" cartoon days.
The quote was:
"Pinky, are you pondering what I'm pondering?" - The Brain
"I think so Brain, but if you replace the P with an O, my name would be Oinky, wouldn't it?" - Pinky
TheOaf66 replied: tanner loves Tom and Jerry and MGM and a lot of other ones on Boomerang. There was an adjustment period explaining the difference between real and fake but we watch them together all time.
Teesa®© replied: Brain - "Pinky, are you pondering what I'm pondering?"
Pinky - "I think so, Brain, but me and Pippi Longstocking -- I mean, what would the children look like?"
They're Pinky and The Brain Yes, Pinky and The Brain One is a genius The other's insane. They're laboratory mice Their genes have been spliced They're dinky They're Pinky and The Brain, Brain, Brain, Brain Brain, Brain, Brain, Brain Brain. Before each night is done Their plan will be unfurled By the dawning of the sun They'll take over the world. They're Pinky and The Brain Yes, Pinky and The Brain Their twilight campaign Is easy to explain. To prove their mousey worth They'll overthrow the Earth They're dinky They're Pinky and The Brain, Brain, Brain, Brain Brain, Brain, Brain, Brain Narf!
