Driving up our road the other day a little girl was walking up the road from the bus stop....I just couldn't believe as young as she looked that she was walking such a long way by herself with all the scary stuff that goes on. I feel like we're in a totally safe area but still wouldn't let my kids walk home alone.

I don't understand how they will give him up to 170 years in prison...why not just utilize the death penalty? It would save so much money for the tax payers and IMO its what he deserves anyways.

punkeemunkee'smom replied: I couldn't agree more-KILL him! It is wayyy more humane than what he did to those 2 (possibly 3-they are looking for that child still) boys! They have to live with his evil for the rest of their lives....Texas was supposed to vote in the death penalty for 2 time offenders (cuz once isn't enough ) yesterday but the vote was put on hold because it may be uncontistutional to kill these offenders for their 'illness' I am ALL FOR instituting the dealth penalty for child sex offenders-I think if the punishment fit the crime maybe just maybe some of these &*^%$#@* would curb 'their desires. If they can't curb their behavior then they are a danger to every child out there and should be put away for the rest of their lives but that puts to high of a tax burden on an already streched system so let's clean out the worst of the worst..... IMHO if you hurt a child you forefit your 'rights' as a human being and deserve to be treated like a rabid animal! off my soap box now....

msoulz replied: One way to reduce fear is to stop watching the news. They don't report about the 99% of good people in the world! It's good to know there are awful folks out there, but it's better to remember that most of us just want to live life and not bother anyone else!

I know that there are alot of good people out there! I don't live my life in a state of fear-I just meant it is scary that things like this happen all the time! I will however say that ignorance of what is around you doesn't protect you or your kids and all it takes is that (by your numbers) 1% to devistate your or your child's life!

C&K*s Mommie replied: I agree with Abbie. Knowledge and the realization that this is a sicker world than what we grew up, or our parents grew up in is a good bet to ensure that we all keep our kids safe to the best of our ability.

This is very true. That is why it is good to be aware but not good to live in fear.

I do not believe it is a sicker world. I believe we hear about it more because we now talk about things that were taboo when we and our parents were kids. The fact that we talk about these things probably makes it a safer world for our children. And the media likes to works us all up about whatever they choose, from abductions to shark attacks.
