Those with 1 year olds
mckayleesmom wrote: Are your babies talking yet? Russell is 15 months in 2 days and he really doesn't talk. In a way Im worried....and in another Im glad because it keeps him a baby to me.
He can say
Baba Mama Dada Es....I think thats yes iss....I think thats kiss
But thats about it.
Mckaylee was telling us off before she was even 1
~Roo'sMama~ replied: I think it's a boy thing. Every baby boy I've ever known has taken way longer to talk than the girls I've known. My nephew is almost three and just starting to talk more. He's had words he could say since a little before he was two, but he didn't say much and definitely didn't talk in sentences until recently. I have a friend who has two boys that didn't talk until they were 2 or 3 either. So I wouldn't worry!
My3LilMonkeys replied: Part of it might be 2nd child syndrome too. Madison is 11 months and she says mama, dada, no and hi. That's it. Brooke had said a lot more by this age.
Brias3 replied: Ryan was a very early talker and Aliyah was very understandable by 18 months herself. Mason however has been my slower one. He'll be three in October and its only really been the past 2-3 months that he's been using short sentences and more conversational-like talking. At first, he was very hard to understand and the few words he said really didn't sound like what they were. I'd estimate that his vocab at the age Russell is what about 10-15 words MAX. I don't think you have anything to be worried about. McKaylee sounds like quite a character and from your stories, seems to have a large vocab so she probably takes over for him. I always felt that Mason didn't need to really speak so soon because Ryan and Aliyah did so well translating for him
Jamison'smama replied: I can't remember but I think Jack is close to Russell's age. Jack is 15 months and can say very few words. The words he says are not very pronounced. Jamison was around 50 words by this time---
Jack says mama dada Bar... (Barney) Pa (paci) Papa Bou (bounce) ama (Jama) bye bye pooh
That's about it
coasterqueen replied: Megan will be 13 months this coming Monday. She will repeat LOTS of words you say, but nothing she says all the time by herself.
She will say
mama dada uh-oh french fry (that one freaked us out at White Castle this past weekend) Megan (she said her name a few times repeating what we said to her) She can't really say milk but pats my chest and squeezes her hands like she's milking a cow when she wants to nurse. kitty sissy (not real great) baby (edited to add this one)
Nothing is SUPER clear and she doesn't say anything unless we repeat it a zillion times to her first. Kylie was talking super clear and LOTS of words by this age.
Nathansmom replied: The only thing Nathan says is dada and mama..sometimes ish, I think that's fish.
MiniMomy replied: Ty rarely talks and when he does, they are long, smart sentences!
huggybugboy replied: Miles just turned one and he doesnt really say anything.
he says mamamamama, which I think means mama. he says "I" really loud a lot. I think he might be saying "hi" he said poppa once (for my dad.)
he does sign "all done" and occasionally "more."
I'm sure Russels fine. Maybe hes just the more quiet one.
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: Wil is 19 months and doesn't really say much of anything. I've heard dog, ball and mama, but that's about it and it rarely happens. I'm starting to worry, but since Wil didn't walk until two months ago, I figure it's just another late milestone for him. He is so alert and interactive in so many ways, so I'm trying to just be patient. He understands just about everything I say to him, meaning he will go brush his teeth when asked, go get a specific toy when asked, etc. And he points to objects when I name them. He just doesn't repeat words. He also makes the gestures for "more" and makes an O with his mouth for "open", but he doesn't actually say the word. Anyhow, I may have him tested in a few months, but from what I've heard from several friends, it's pretty normal for boys to be late talkers.
I wouldn't worry!
luvmykids replied: Macie too! And she sure hasn't stopped!
All 3 were talking pretty well by about 18 months, Macie was much much earlier than the twins but I don't remember any of them before that really, I just know at 18 mos they were all talking non stop.
coasterqueen replied: I had to add two things Megan says that I can't believe I forgot. She also says no-no very well and ga-ga but I have no idea what ga-ga means.
Sarah&Mackenzie replied: Mackenzie is picking up more and more lately, but the words she says are
Mommy Daddy Nana Papa Hot (this has got to be her favorite word, says it ALL the time) Bye Bye Skunk Please, sounds like "Pease" Dog (when she wants too) This sounds like "Tis" Hi
3_call_me_mama replied: Both of mine were early and often talkers LOL> Cameorn had about 35-50 words at 12 months. Kathleen had abou the same. Now at 19 months kathleen talks even more than Cameron did and he talked non stop. I honestly can't think of anything she can't say. She talks in sentences most times sometiems just 2 words but usually 4-5 word sentences. But teh little girl I watch will be 2 in 2 weeks and doesn't say maybe 10 words. She understands everything but jsut refuses to speak to people. We have overheard her talkign to kathleen or to herself but won't talk to adults or in fornt of people. Iwouldnt' worry too mush,, but you could tak to his Dr is you are worried. Could be a hearing issue if he doesn't repeat you either. But i imagine it's just development in his own time.
AlexsPajamaMama replied: Alex talked pretty well by 1. My nephew is 3.5 and still doesnt talk as well as Alex does at 2! My step mothers nephew will be 2 in may and says very few words and you can barely understand him. They both have older siblings that speak for them or get them what they want without them having to put in an effort to ask or explain.
I think every kid is differant, Im sure Russel is fine and it could be the 2nd child thing.
jem0622 replied: Hannah and Olivia are 16 mos.
Um- yum Cup Tat- cat Mom Da da Na Na- Nathan This That Uh oh Dog
They can sign for when they are all done and when they are hungry. They are starting to imitate a lot of what they hear (especially on Baby Wordsworth).
Until the ped is worried then don't you worry! Just start pointing to things and saying them repeatedly. My girls love to dance, especially to Barney and The Wiggles.
MyLuvBugs replied: Well, Lorelei says alot, but some of it isn't clear if that makes sense. She can say: Dadda All Done Thank you Blue Bye Hi Kitty (although it comes out as Titty ) Baa Baa (for her lamb) Baby Teddy (although it sounds more like tatty) No (that was one of the first) Don't Tickle (although it sounds more like ticky ticky ticky) Nose
But, I agree with some of the other moms. It's a boy thing or a second child thing or both. My cousin has two boys. The first was just Talking up a storm by 1 year in spanish and english. But her second, hardly says anything and it's usually b/c she or her hubby or her other son get whatever the baby needs before he can say it. So, she thinks its just laziness, but he's now almost 20 months old, so she's going to have him tested just in case.
I think if your Dr. doesn't really have a problem with it, then it's fine, but definately something to monitor and keep an eye on over the next few months.
