Those with a gun in the house...

MommyToAshley wrote: Another spin-off the gun post.

lisar replied: Most anyone who knows me or my dh knows that we have guns. However most people should automaticlly assume that we have them just because of where we live. I would answer honeslty if someone asked me. I wouldnt run up to them and say hey by the way I have guns in the house. But I would tell them if asked. I wouldnt lie to them and say no. I think thats wrong.

lisar replied: I just wanted to add that this is a good question. I would have never thought to ask something like this.

luvmykids replied: My answer is the same as Lisa....most people that know us already know, and where we live it is more uncommon to not have one, it's pretty standard.

MommyToAshley replied: I noticed that a lot of you said it is "common" where you live, and I can understand that. But, I have been surprised how common it is in our suburban area.... and I think I am going to start asking from now on. Like I said, I usually stay with Ashley, but as she gets older, I think I won't be as welcom on her playdates...LOL.

jacobsmama replied: I agree with the other, everyone how knows us would assume we do. but is very intresting if this is something you would need to tell ppl about. I am so use to it although I don't like them, but know they are in a safe place that I never STOP to think how uncomfortable it would make someone else especially if you are caring for their child. blush.gif

stella6979 replied:
I live in Detroit and guns are very abundant here. dry.gif It does frighten me to know that most gun related incidents do occur at home and with their own weapon, but that just goes to show how many stupid, irresponsible people there are in this world. I mean, most of those incidents occur in "drug" homes and when you combine the two, something is bound to happen. I myself actually enjoy target shooting, it's a great way to relieve stress. thumb.gif I don't own a gun, but would like too someday and if someone was to ask me, I would most definitely be honest with them. Plus, Dh is hoping to become a police officer in the near future so there's no getting around having one in the house.

holley79 replied: Honestly the thought never crosses my mind. blush.gif

grapfruit replied: You know I never thought about it. Maybe b/c ours are locked up. Well the handgun is on top of the gun safe but ALL the ammo is locked up and the key is in a different room. The gun safe is about 4 1/2 - 5 ft tall and in the closet in our bedroom.

Crystalina replied: I voted no but I would not lie about it and answer any questions.

To me that's like saying,

"Thanks for letting your little one come over.
We keep the guns locked up there.
Over here is where we have all the prescription meds.
All sharp objects can be found in that drawer and any item of questionable subject we put in the box under the bed."

As long as I know my house is safe I'm good.

PrairieMom replied: This is a good question. I have never given it any thought. I do not have guns, and my children are not allowed to play with guns of any type. (debates elsewhere please tongue.gif )
They are at an age now where they aren't with anyone that we don't know extremely well. I don't think Ben has been in another house other than Grandma's, and his baby sitter with out me in his life. I know Grandma has no guns, and I know that his baby sitter hold my same beliefs when it comes to guns.

I think I will have to remember this when he gets older.

kit_kats_mom replied: This convo hits home with me because I had a very good friend in HS who was killed while his friend was playing with a gun that they'd found. I'm not sure of the details but the 16 year old died and our whole school felt the loss. He was a great kid, good student and athlete.

lovemy2 replied: I openly tell people my DH is a sheriff - most can draw their own conclusion - if they ask I tell and let them know the precautions we use - if they don't ask I as Crystal said don't go into all the safety measure we have in place in our home to keep our kids safe......

A&A'smommy replied: Everyone who knows us, knows my husband hunts. But around here it isn't a big deal, most everyone does hunt.
