Time for Shoes yet?
dolfinrse wrote: Just wondering when everyone bought the first pair of walking shoes for their little one? My dad wants to buy Zack his first pair, but we are not sure when we should get them. He is standing up now and sidesteps around furniture. What do you all think?
Jamison'smama replied: I never put Jamison in shoes until she was really walking around--then only used them when we went outside of the house--however, that was in warmer weather. I think I would get some of the Robeez for now-(I found them online and at Stride Rite)--they are soft and comfortable but still non-slip. I bought Jamison regular Stride Rite shoes (only because they measure her foot and it was easier) They will try to tell you that they should wear shoes right away to "support their ankle" but that is not all schools of thought. It is really a personal choice--I am sure many people will have more suggestions for you.
amynicole21 replied: Sophia didn't have her first pair of hard soled shoes until she really had the hang of walking, too. We got her some Robeez, which I HIGHLY recommend... in fact, I just bought her a new pair on ebay this morning
coasterqueen replied: Kylie wore Robeez until she was really walking. Then she only wore robeez when it got really cold outside. If it wasn't so cold outside I would have her still wearing Robeez! But her first pair of shoes were Stride Rites, so they could fit her shoe properly.
aspenblue1 replied: I bought Isabellas 1st pair once she really started walking.
MommyToAshley replied: I read, and my Ped also said that it is best to let them learn to walk in their bare feet. THis is a good thing because Ashley HATED socks and shoes. All of her pictures before her 1st birthday are in tights (no shoes) or bare feet because she refused to wear them.
She was walking great on her own around 10 months but didn't wear shoes until around 1 year old. And, it took many shoes before I found a pair she would wear. The first pair of shoes she would wear were a pair of Nike Tennis Shoes.
3_call_me_mama replied: Cameron has had shoes for as long as i can remember oru ped suggested cribshoes when he was real small because he feet always were so cold and he said that the air insid eof the shoe would sort of insulate his foot. He also said that once he started to cruise to not have him wear anyshoes anymore, to use robeez or slippers but once he really started walking to get him a good pair of shoes to support his ankles. He was walking everywhere by 10 months and we got him a pair of stride rites. They are more expensive but definately worth it.... seems to be the consensus here:) We got lucky though because the stride rite by my MIL's went out of business last fall and she got him a bunch of pairs for $5 each in sizes ranging from 4-8 because he wore a 4 when he started walking and now is in a 6!!! Talk about big feet!!
kimberley replied: Jacob didn't get shoes until he was really walking and only wore them outside. we stuck with Stride Rite because they were the only ones that fit his chubby little feet and they were bendy. James also wore stride rites after he was walking.
kit_kats_mom replied: We got Katherine in a pair of Nike's when she was really pulling up and walking around the furniture. I was going to wait but she insisted on holding our hands and walking when we were out
dolfinrse replied: We went out yesterday and my dad bought Zack his shoes. We went to Stride Rite and got a white pair with dinosaurs on the back. They are so cute. Anyway, he loves them. And the girl couldn't believe how big his feet are. He wears a 5 1/2 wide. She showed me the shoes that they recommend the babies start with, but then she remembered that his feet are too big for them. Dh and I were trying to figure out where he gets big feet from, it's neither one of us.
kimberley replied: lol Jacob had unusually big feet too but grew into them eventually stride rite's are great
jem0622 replied: We got shoes for the boys once they were standing a lot and cruising. But I don't put shoes on them in the house. They walk around with socks only. Only shoes when we go out. And Gabe doesn't always get shoes on. Especially with ice/snow. I just put on his slipper boots.
