Toddler dies from freak accident with toy - OMG!
coasterqueen wrote: Kylie got some of these magnetix for Christmas and the sitter bought a TON, I mean a TON of these around Christmas time and the kids are playing with them all day on the floor, right around where Megan plays. I am SO going to say something to the sitter and demand she rid of them and so I am. Granted it's a freak accident, but Megan is at that age where everything goes in her mouth.

MamaJAM replied: I feel badly for that family.
We have a bunch of magnetix and all of the kids (even my 3 and 2 years old) play with them sometimes. I have seen a few stray magnets (1 or 2)....we just throw them away.
My3LilMonkeys replied: That poor child! I will be sure to keep these toys away from my kids. Thanks for the warning.
SOUTHERN MOMMY replied: OmG that is horrlble and my kids got some for christmas and before i could post i went and got rid of them I have a 2 yr old niece and she was just over and played with them scary Huh i need to check them and be sure non of the magnets are gone (i guess i will dig them out of the trash) Thanks for the warning.
SOUTHERN MOMMY replied: Oh you need to throw them away asap girl.
coasterqueen replied: Well I normally won't go overboard on throwing things out. I usually just keep an eye out, but knowing that Megan puts everything in her mouth these days I was already worried about the things when I first saw them and now that I've seen this article I definitely am not comfortable with them in my home.
zdk753 replied: How sad. I can't imagine the pain that family is feeling. My cousin just bought her 7 yr old son some for xmas. I am going to send her this news item. I hope they do recall them at least until they can make them safer. I would hate for this to happen to some other child.
amynicole21 replied: Wow, we got some of these from my parents at Christmas. One of the magnets did already fall out of the tube thing... That is so scary. I think we'll be getting rid of them, too.
BAC'sMom replied: OMG that is ssooo sad ,that poor family. I wanted to get my oldest some for Christmas, but at the last minute I changed my mind. I was worried about the baby choking on the small parts too. Thank goodness I gave it a second thought.
3xsthefun replied: That is so sad. I feel really bad for that family.
ions_momma replied: OMG how awful!!
Ion has some of those, and while I am not so worried about him swallowing them, we do have friends with babies and toddlers that come over quite a bit and I dont want to even take the chance of any of them getting ahold of them and swallowing them. I will definately be getting rid of them!
MamaJAM replied: No - I don't think so. Just because one freak accident happened doesn't mean that a toy is a complete hazard. My kids love thier magnetix - I'll be even more vigilant than in the past when they are playing with them - but I'm not going to toss the whole set.
SOUTHERN MOMMY replied: Oh i'm sorry i wasn't trying to tell you what to do It is just scary to think something like that could happen. I have already got rid of the ones we had but my boys didn't find them very interesting in the first place and have not missed them.
MamaJAM replied: Don't worry about it. I didn't think you were 'telling me what to do'...I know your post was made in an effort to help me and my kids. Thank you for caring. And - especially if your kids didn't really find the toys interesting - it's great you were able to get rid of them for safety's sake. My kids LOVE their megnetix....though they don't have constant acess to them (we've been keeping them in our room for months - and get them out for the kids once every two weeks or so for an afternoon). I will definately be keeping a closer eye on the kids while playing with them....and policing them more carefully for loose magets.
coasterqueen replied: I don't think if your kids are older there is no need to throw them away either. They know better not to swallow things. My 3 year old would be fine with them and is. The only reason we are ridding of them is because our almost 10 month old is the issue. She doesn't know what is ok and not ok to put in her mouth. Right now everything goes in it . Yes, it was a freak accident, BUT being that it can be unsafe I'll take the appropriate measures for my youngest one.
PhiMuMommy replied: wow that is crazy. alex doesn't have any of those but i don't think i'lll be buying any either. i feel so bad for the poor family!
3_call_me_mama replied: We have 2 sets of them and they are kept up high on a shelf cause we have found Miss KAthleen putting the balls (that connect the magnets) into her mouth. So they are up high. Cameron got a set for his birthdya and a set for christmas form friends, and we wont' toss them cause he LOVES tehm adn it's not fair for him to have them thrown out. We will just make it a Mommy or Daddy activity with just him rather than letting him use them whenever he wants. So that way there's added safety. HUGS to the family in teh article!
~Roo'sMama~ replied: Omg that's so sad! Just awful. My heart goes out to that poor family.
PrairieMom replied: How scary. i never thought about the magnets connecting to each other inside, I would have just worried about the chiking hazard. How sad and scary.
fashionmumofboys replied: How incredibly scary and thanks for the warning.
That poor family.
