Toddler potty - Which ones are worth investing in?
msoulz wrote: Erin sat on the big toilet today and seemed to enjoy it. Nothing came of it, but she was grunting and I asked if she wanted to go on the potty and she said yes. She seemed quite content sitting there (with me holding so she didn't fall in) for a couple of minutes. So now I think I want to get her own potty, but there are too many to choose from. And I wonder if a basic little one will be close enough to the real thing to hold her interest. She did want to flush the toilet before we left the bathroom.
Any suggestions?? thanks!!
MyBlueEyedBabies replied: Honestly I didn't like any of them. Neither of mine would use the little potties so we bought a ring to go on teh big toilet and that is what did it for both. I let them pick but when they were younger they both seemed to prefer teh one that has handles on teh side.
My3LilMonkeys replied: We had just a basic one from Walmart - about $15 and it was green, white and yellow. It worked just fine for Brooke until we transitioned her to the real potty and I'm sure we'll get the same kind for Madison when she's ready
luvmykids replied: Mine all preferred the insert type thing for the big potty, with a step stool so they could get up on their own.
CantWait replied: If I were to do it over again, that's what I would get. Less clean up, and it's cleaner in general, less hassle.
If you do decide to go with a potty, I don't suggest getting the one with the cushion seat as it rips easily, and lets a lot of nasty's in.
BAC'sMom replied: All 3 three of my kids too!
Boo&BugsMom replied: That's what we did with Tanner and all my daycare kiddos. Our bathroom is too small to keep a small potty in. We did have a small potty for a short while but it didn't get used for long. It was a Step2 I think, or maybe from The First Years. Standard white seat that can be used as a step stool too. Before that we bought The Royal Potty, which I do NOT recommend at all. The thing was too small and not very practical, IMO. I recommend the potty inserts. They are practical and don't take up any space, plus there is no clean up from it, which is my favorite part.
A&A'smommy replied: the ones that fit on the potty!!!
boyohboyohboy replied: we had a seperate kid potty also, but neither of the kids liked it....both are doing better with a toilet insert, and we let jake pick it out, sesame street of course, so he likes to go in there and sit with a book, he has gone twice but I think it was a coincidence.
mckayleesmom replied: McKaylee had a Winnie the Pooh one that had a handle that made flushing sounds......She never used it as a potty chair, but the seat part unhooked and could be snapped onto a regular toilet and the base folded into a step stool.....She would just snap the seat on the toilet.
The bowl thing she never even use to potty in....so she decided to use it to eat snacks out of...
My3LilMonkeys replied: Thank God she never used it as a potty....
msoulz replied: Yes, this is what I am thinking about with Erin. I think she likes the big potty and flushing is a must, so we shall see. I did pick up the basic one with the little cup in side and that is supposed to fit on the toilet too, so we shall see!
I know my son sat on the little potty - I have a pic of Daddy on the big one and Jake on the little one.
Thanks!!!
