Toodler beds - When to put into toddler bed?
DEE wrote: I am kinda new to these posts but I have a 21 month old, and was wondering when to introduce toodler bed?
PrairieMom replied: I transitioned my little man at 18 months. I set up the bed in his room with the intention of just getting him used to it being there, and he was so excied about it that he slept in it the very first night. We never looked back!
kimberley replied: Jade has been in a twin bed since she was 2yo. before that, we coslept in a queen. no one knows your child better than you. if you think your child is ready, give it a try.
redchief replied: All of our kids' moves to the bed were actually forced on us. When they started climbing out of the crib, we put them in beds.
ammommy replied: My son was about 2. He went into a twin bed because his sister needed the crib. My Dd just went into a twin bed at 2.5 because she was climbing out of the crib. We skipped the toddler bed with both of them. I just put the crib mattress on the floor next to the twin bed (no box spring) in case they fell out. I think they both fell out once or twice but were fine.
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: My DS is 18 months and we plan to start the transition next month. We bought a twin sized bed that you could buy as a bunk bed, so we bought the ladder and side rails to go with and just put them on the one twin bed (just the rails) and stored the other bed (for our second son). They are wood and fairly high, so I feel comfortable he won't fall out...climbing out may be another story though, he thinks it's all pretty fun right now.
Nina J replied: We put Emily in a bed when she was 1 and a half. We caught her with one leg over the side of the crib so we went and got her a bed. If you think your child's ready, then go for it. Even if you get the bed and he/she isn't, you can just wait awhile longer.
C&K*s Mommie replied: that is the best advice!
We put Christian in a twin size at 12mos. But they both co-sleep with us now. We are in no rush to get them out of our bed, but when we do we will get Kellie a twin size as well, eventually.
3_call_me_mama replied: My DD is almost 18 months (in a few days) and she has co slept with us and used her crib. But she climbs out of her crib so we took teh top bunk off DS's bunkbed and gave it to her to use as a bed (couldn't see the expense of a toddler bed and new mattress when we need her current crib mattress for baby on teh way) She slept in it last night for the first time (just naps before ) and had no issues. Never got out and slept form 8pm until 6 30 am. So a good sleep and she was happy when she got up. Also we just put her in it, and told her to lay down and it was time to sleep. And she jsut did. So we were lucky on that I guess.
ZandersMama replied: we put Zander in at 17 months, he was climbing. he loves it. he helped daddy put it together(lol), and slept in it right away
CAMSMOM1 replied: Cam is going to be 2 next month (April) and he is still in his crib. He hasn't tried to crawl out yet, and he seems happy as can be in his crib. So we're going to let him tell us when he's ready. Probably when he's around 2.5 yrs old, we'll start to consider it, unless he's ready before then.
jacobsmama replied: Jacob just turned 2 the end of January and he is still in his crib. He hasn't ever tried to climb out and does well so until he does that we are going to leave him in the crib. We are moving to our upstairs soon b/c it is almost done being remolded and then we are going to put up the crib and toddler bed that we have and let him deciede what to do...Maybe he will do like prariemom said and take right too it (fingers crossed)
Brias3 replied: We moved into a toddler bed with my youngest at right around age 2 (much later than my first two) For some reason he just never slept well in it- lots of waking in the night and trouble going down (he previously was a good and heavy sleeper). When we moved a couple of months ago, we just said forget it and got a new twin bed for him with a gate along the open side and voila, he does great in it! Go figure!
