Trampolines - Anyone have one?

amymom wrote: My kids and DH want to get a trampoline. I have always been afraid of the 'danger' of a trampoline. We have a huge yard so space is not a concern. What do people think about getting one? I know if we had one, my son would spend more time here with his friends. The more time I know where my teen is and what he is doing the better.

Momof3inMe replied: We have one. I always tell parents of new kids that come here that kids jump at their own risk. I have never had a parent that didn't want their kids on it. My kids all love it and even Em who is 2 loves being on it. I don't let the kids play rough or push each other around.

luvmykids replied: We had one, more for DH than the kids I think laugh.gif It had the tall net around and everybody loved it but me, it made me nervous. When the kids are bigger we'll probably get another one though, I was just too worried.

1lilpeanut2love replied: I got one when I was like 10 for a birthday present. I totally loved it. When Kaylee is bigger I plan to get one too.

They are fun. I'm sure your teen would love to have one.

The whole neighborhood might want to come over if you do decide to get one. LOL tongue.gif

mckayleesmom replied: Well...although I think they are kind of scary because broken bones happen on them sometimes...I would probably still get one if my kids ask. A kid can break a bone tripping over a curb too....but I can't get rid of curbs.... rolling_smile.gif .

Just make up a set of rules they are suppose to follow or lose privileges. No pushing each other, no objects on the trampoline, no more then 2 people on at a time....etc.

Also...type up a waiver that the kids parents have to sign in order to jump...if your son has friends over. I wouldn't want to be liable for anyone elses kids.

MamaJAM replied: Honestly - trampolines scare me to death and I refuse to buy one. I wouldn't want my kids going on one at a friend's house either...if I ever saw one in someone's yard -- I'd make sure my kids knew they were to stay off.

mom21kid2dogs replied: We don't have one but the neighbors do. I let O go on one if they have a net, spring covers and adult supervision. I think with older kids who can abide by rules of safety they are perferctly fine and great exercise!!!

Kaitlin'smom replied: my neighbor has one we use it occasionaly. Also the sitter has one Kait jump on that all the time, there are rules and always an adult outside. They still scare me. I am not sure If I will ever personaly own one.

coasterqueen replied: My cousins who lived next door to us had one and I loved it as a kid, but I also saw how dangerous they can be. I'm not sure if I would buy one for our children or not. Probably not, but mainly because my understanding is that your homeowners insurance can be canceled at anytime because of trampolines. Or at least my mother and FIL who are agents have told me this.

BAC'sMom replied: We have one ours has the safety net around it and also the spring cover. My kids just love it!

kayla's mama replied: I used to play on one and I just loved it. We will never get one because the thougth of it scares the day lights out of me. I also have heard that the home owners ins can either go up or be canceled due to the trampoline!!!

my2monkeyboys replied: We have one for Will... got it for his 3rd b-day. It has the net and spring pads on it. My biggest fear was him falling off or falling through the springs, so those bases are covered. I make sure that the kids are about the same size that are on it together, and no hard objects (shoes, toys) are allowed on it. I think it's like anything else in that you have to pay attention to your kids and enforce any rules you set. They can get hurt doing just about anything, so I'm not one to limit the activity based on that alone, kwim?
My cousins had one and we played on it all the time. Only back then there was no net or pads. It's amazing some of the stuff we survived! LOL
I know that your homeowners can go up if you get one (I got some quotes recently and they were a little higher bc of that). Also, when a couple of neighborhood girls came to jump one day I made their mom sign a waiver first. I don't know them and I certainly am not going to be responsible for them.
If you think your child would enjoy it, I say go for it... just be prepared to keep an eye on them.

5littleladies replied: We have one and the girls love it. We do have a safety net and the worst injury we have had is a prematurely lost tooth. rolleyes.gif I am thinking about taking it down though-not because I am afraid of my kids getting hurt on it-they know the rules and are very good at abiding by them, but because some of the older kids in our neighborhood have started coming over to jump. So far everyone does very well, but I do not want to be responsible if anyone gets hurt. I thought about getting parents to sign waivers, but I've heard that they won't necessarily hold up in court if you are sued, and my homeowners insurance wouldn't cover a trampoline injury that I know of. I know I could just tell the neighbors they can't jump, but Madeline has been asking for more space in the backyard, and taking down the tramp would be the only way to achieve that and then I don't have to be the mean neighbor. lol! I guess we will see what happens though. happy.gif

MommyToAshley replied: I might get one when Ashley is older, but not now. Our neighbor has one with the big safety net around it, but her 5 yr old nephew still fell and broke his arm on it. But, I think for teenagers, it would be a great form of excercise and a lot of fun!

salmndr007 replied: I had one when I was younger. It was a blast. My mom only had two rules. No one could bounce when she wansn't home and only one person on at a time. Other than that, it was free game. I think there was a time when we had everyone on the street down for a big cookout and trampoline party. It was a lot of fun. Jess wants one when we get a place to put it.

CantWait replied: We just have a small one. I'd love to get a big one, but cost is an issue with this as well as space. I think they're great and if used carefully as with everything else can be tons of fun.

Cece00 replied: I've never let my kids on one that didnt have the net & spring covers & when we get one, it will have the same. If they have that, I think they are a lot safer. I jumped on them ALL THE TIME (no net or covers) when I was a kid & never got hurt.

moped replied: Don' t think I would ever get one........I see dangers, but I am paranoid mother!

holley79 replied: We had one and we had rules. rolleyes.gif My mom would always tell parents that she was not responsible if anyone got hurt.

Brias3 replied: My older two REALLY want one but I'm like you- I'm really concerned about the safety. My husband keeps saying I shouldn't worry so much, that we'll get one with the mesh wall all around it but not only that, I'm worried about the injury that could occur just landing the wrong way or throwing a joint out of place, etc.

Brias3 replied:
I agree with this too- have heard about the homeowner's rates going up. I do know that in our specific neck of the woods here, you need to have insurance for it too.

ashtonsmama replied: I don't have one yet, but my older sister does have one for her kids, and they have a big net type thing around it, so the kids can't fall off or anything...make sense? I think those are really helpful, she likes hers...but she won't let the older two jump on it when the little one is on there, just because they always fall on him or jump on him, etc. and it's not safe for him. But they love it, and it tires them out!
