Two words - Pink Eye
PrairieMom wrote: I'm sure Ben has it. I have never had to deal with it myself, Is it something I need to take him to the Dr for? WEB MD says its a viral thing that just needs to run its course, but I thought it was a bacterial thing that he would need eye drops for. and how much school is he gonna miss for this?
Why does this always happen on my weekend to work? Guess I won't be sleeping tomorrow. I LOVE staying awake for 30 + hours in a row, and trying to be coherent at the Dr's office.
Cece00 replied: Its kind of hit & miss about whether its viral or bacterial.
The last time my daughter had it, she got drops for it, it was better in about 2 days. So I would guess he's going to miss at least 1 day, maybe 2.
lovemy2 replied: Uggh - I would take him to the MD - and I sure hope no one else gets it
Swood75 replied: Yes,definately a trip to the Dr..I used to get it quite a bit when I was young and the only way I could get over it was with the drops...And it is VERY contagous..Hope it is better soon..
5littleladies replied: Yeah it really depends on what type it is-bacterial or viral. Most of my girls have pink eye right now, but it is from their influenza (so, viral) so drops won't help. Bacterial though you usually do need a prescription-although Madeline once had bacterial pink eye and it turned out that she was allergic to something in the drops and it made her eyes ten times worse! You should probably take Ben to the dr. to find out. Hope it clears up quickly!!
boyohboyohboy replied: last time we tried to treat it on our own the entire family had it..if ben rubs his eyes and then touches his toys and alli touches the toys and so on, you will all have it, he usually isnt contagious after 24 hours after the first drops.. its well worth it to get the drops and keep them at the house for next time. we have them and use them right away if it comes back.... that way the entire house doesnt get it.
:.Mrs_Mommy.: replied: Aaron got it from daycare when he was 2. I finally took him to the doc because he was miserable. It itched and he couldn't see all that well because of the irritation. I took him to the doc and he got eye drops and it cleared up right away.
austins mom replied: Everytime I know of someone getting it they always got eyedrops. I would call and check atleast and see what the dr says.
PrairieMom replied: Well, DH took him into the Doc this morning, and surprise surprise, its pink eye. DUH! So, we have the script for drops, I will give them to him tonight. Its gonna be great fun. We decided to give him a few of his kindergarten shots while he was there, so he got 2 of the 5. Poor kid. He was freaked out, he overheard me talking to the nurse about it on the phone. I remember being so scared of those things. Hopefully he will only miss school tomorrow and go back Wed.
MommyToAshley replied: Glad he got the drops... hopefully it will clear up quickly. I've never dealt with it, but I have heard it is very contagious. yuck.
I didn't know the ped would give shots if they have any kind of infection or illness. Anyways, I hope the shots and the pink eye don't bother him too much.
sparkys2boys replied: Aww poor guy. I hope it passes quickly so you all get rest
DVFlyer replied: Crazy.... we just had this too.
