Tyler has a hernia :(

He was listening to his chest and noticed his belly button and said he has a hernia! But, he said not to worry about it which is good.. but I had Tyler at the pediatrician in the city a month ago and I SPECIFICALLY asked her about his belly butoon sticking out (and it looked purplish) and she said it was nothing!!!! Ugh!!!! I won't be going back to her again...sheesh! and she also said for his excema, to bath him every night...is that right? I thought that would dry up his skin even more??? I may just end up having the kids see the doc we seen today instead of a pediatrician, he's so smart with everything! and he's nice and close (1/2 hour)
gr33n3y3z replied: if she said that She should have told you warm water and follow it up with lotion 2 of my kids have that
JAYMESMOM replied: Per my dermatologist - a child with eczema should only bathe every other day unless absolutely necessary and to use a mild non-soap cleanser such as cetaphil. Dove as a last resort. No baby washes, lavender scents, or anything scented. Also apply cetaphil, eucerin, twice a day. We also use a perscription steroid cream as needed on certain patches.
Sorry to hear he has a hernia, even sorry to here that the pediatrician brushed you off about it. I would definitely not go back to her.
A&A'smommy replied: shame on that other docter!!!
Poor kid!!! I'm glad your doc said not to worry about it, that probably made you feel better about everything!
amynicole21 replied: Awww... sorry to hear he's been sick. I don't think the hernia is anything to worry about. Actually, I thought that all outies were hernias?? Not the kind that get worse over time or anything... Maybe I'm wrong on that one. I bet he has a cute outie, though
DansMom replied: Getting conflicting information from doctors is one of the things that has upset me most as a new parent. Definitely, if you find one who says something you suspect isn't right or who dismisses something you think is serious, don't go back; and if you find one who generally seems to know what he or she is talking about, whom you trust, stick with that person.
If the exzema persists, try cutting back on dairy---that helps a lot of babies!
My2Beauties replied: Hanna has a mild case of eczema, and we were told to bathe her only every other day, pat her dry, and then apply either a baby eczema cream (you can buy them at the grocery) or use Eucerin or Cetaphil, other *real expensive* lotions like that as I call them and basically let them air dry! Aveeno for babies is a good one too! Aveeno works for 24 hrs so you can apply it just at night too! Hope this helps!
EmilyandPhoebesMommy replied: Ohh, sorry to hear he has a hernia. My niece had one but she had surgery to remove it. She is fine now though, and I think most people can just live with them. Good luck!
moped replied: Oh gosh I am sorry to hear this...............my nephew had ecxema and she was told not to bath him that much - like twice a week and use glaxol base..........
You can pm her at tammyhopkins
She knows a lot about it
MommyToAshley replied: Sorry to hear Tyler has been sick ... hope the meds kick in and he feels better for his birthday party.
Ashley had a hernia when she was about 6 months old. It looks the same as you described, her belly button stuck out a little. The ped said just to wait and see, that most hernias close up by themselves.... and it did. The ped told us it was a pretty common thing, we just needed to keep an eye on it.
I think if you like this doc better, then I'd stick with him. It's really hard to find one that you really like and trust. I loved Ashley's first Ped and really miss her.
Sunflower04 replied: Poor kid. I hope he feels better soon.
