UGH!!!,.....SCREAM
mckayleesmom wrote: I need a fridgerator lock......this time for RUSSELL . It is a PITB to keep him out of the sucker. This morning I went to pull some hot dogs and buns out of the freezer for lunch and the buns have been ripped open and pieces have been eaten. Tonight we are having hamburgers and those buns are the same way....Needless to say he is sitting in his room right now so I don't kill him. At our old house I had a double door unit and I had a bycycle lock on it....worked wonders..Here I have a regular fridgerator and I can't find a lock that doesn't look like they can get it open in a heartbeat.....or they are plastic and my kids would just break them.
grapfruit replied: How old is he?
sparkys2boys replied: OK, let me get this right?? They sneak in the freezer and eat frozen food..lol?? Am I missing something here??
mckayleesmom replied: Yes....they will eat anything frozen...broccoli, corn on the cob.....heck...they will eat an onion raw......they are not starving by any means either...They ruin so much food....I really shouldn't say THEY because now its mainly Russell.
He is 3.
sparkys2boys replied: Ok thats strange..lol.. sorry dont mean to laugh but I cant imagine him doing that. Does he sneak it or do you ever see him doing it? Why do you think he does it? I would think that eating like that would make him sick? WHat does he say when you talk to him, I know he's only three but he must say somethng?
mckayleesmom replied: He says "macky did it"....Which is a total lie because you can always tell when it was him...He rips the bags open and McKaylee is smart enough to know how to open up the bag and conceal her crime..at least for a while. Plus..the fact that he covered his eyes when I went to the fridge kind of gave him away. He always tells me he won't do it again and says he understands me when I ask...but he continues to do it. Mckaylee sneaks more into the good stuff like cookies and chips....Russell is the freezer/fridge kid. It just drives me nuts because it wastes so much food.
Kaitlin'smom replied: oh I am so thankfull I never had this with Kaitlin. However I wonder if its bacause she has a drawer she knows is her stuff and if she wants a snack she can have one. I keep things like juice, cheese, yougert, apples, jello, pudding, anything one serving in there for her. Have you tried this with him (or them)? maybe it woudl help from runioning food you need for other things.
sparkys2boys replied: Hmm, I think that you need to really be firm with him and say no more. There is snacks here.. maybe a drawer he can reach or here.. the fridge at a lower lever.. and these things you can have without asking me but the freezer is no no no maybe tell him it can make him sick to eat frozen stuff. Then keeps small amonts of good stuff in the places you have told him. Maybe he likes the idea of being able to help himself??
mckayleesmom replied: That is a good idea...I never thought of that. My only concern would be that he would eat everything in the drawer...
Hillbilly Housewife replied: strange?
This IS mckaylee's little brother we're talking about!!
Kaitlin'smom replied: well he might not totaly understand it now but if he eats it all at once he is done till the next shopping trip which could mean no snacks for 1-2 or more weeks depending on how often you shop. I hope you woudl be able to stop him from consuming everything unless he can eat it all in 2-3 minutes flat. if so thats just scary.
mckayleesmom replied: So true Rocky Although...he has not given me the grey hairs that Mckaylee has yet. His crimes are usually centered around food... . Up until a while ago...he was an angel....He had no opinion about anything and usually only occassionally helped Mckaylee with her crimes.
Kaitlin'smom replied: or was the inoccent one in her crimes, like the baby powder..... while I know it was NOT funny at the time, and oh the clean up but they did make for some funny pictures
mckayleesmom replied: Oh yes....that is one of my favorite pictures.. Just the shocked look on his face alone.
coasterqueen replied: That is what I'd be worried about if I did this for my girls. They just know they can't have something to eat without asking. They sometimes climb the counters and get into the cabinets for snacks and they are told not to do it again.
Hun, I'm not sure what to do your problem.
Kaitlin'smom replied: funny thing is Kaitlin always asks if she can have it before she eats or drinks
mckayleesmom replied: Mckaylee now asks most of the time...she still sneaks from time to time....But not into anything major....Russell just ruins stuff.....You go to make blt's for dinner and you can't because Russell has eaten the tomatoes....that kind of thing.
sparkys2boys replied: LOL.. I dont mean fill the drawer etc, but a few small things and let him know when its gone.. thats it til you fill it up again next time.
Calimama replied: He eats FROZEN food? Gross. Anyway my sister had the same problem with my nephew. She got him onto the sticker thing where he would go TELL her he was hungry rather than getting stuff himself, he'd get a sticker. Worked well.. for awhile.
luvmykids replied: Why can't you still use a bicycle lock, can't you just loop it through both the fridge and freezer handles? I like the idea of giving him a basket or something of snacks that he can get on his own, you don't have to fill it, just put a few things in there.
mckayleesmom replied: No....its not a side by side...Its just freezer on top and fridge on bottom...if I did that he would just pull on it and they would both come open.
sparkys2boys replied: ok.. problem solved.. lots of heavy duty chains and padlocks..lol!! We will have that sucker locked up so tight noone will want to go near it!!
