Ugh, I am completely disgusted

MyBrownEyedBoy wrote: My FIL is obsessed with forwards. I get between 5 and 8 per day from him. Most of the time I just delete them, but he tricked me today. There wasn't the usual "Fwd" message at the front of the subject so I opened it. Grr. growl.gif
He sent me a slideshow of the insides of limos and private planes and yachts. Gross, that one person has to have such things just because they can disgusts me. Gold plated sinks and yachts that are so huge they have "tender" ships to carry staff and all the "toys". The excesses that the rich and "famous" go to are repellent. Most of these people are famous simply because they are rich (Paris Hilton).
I am usually tolerant of celebs and their stuff, but this went overboard. No one "needs" a Hummer limo, or a private plane or a 200 foot yacht. I just don't understand why they can't use their megabucks for the good of the world. How about more of them being good will ambassadors for the UN? Or giving the money for that plane and it's upkeep to a charity to help the working poor? Or even save the whales? Cripes, I just want to vomit now.

But I would like one of each please. justjoking.gif

ppl. do that to me all the time bc I wont open them

Hillbilly Housewife replied: lol!

I can tell you that if I win the lottery, my house, my mom's house, my dad's house, my grandmother's house and my inlaws' house would be paid off, as would our cars and debts.

But we wouldn't move. Well, maybe in a house where all our kids could have their own rooms. And maybe we'd upgrade our car, to one that we'd all fit comfortable in rather than having the 3 kids cramped in the back seat...

and maybe we'd all have new wardrobes...

and maybe...

j/k

CantWait replied: I'm one that enjoys most (not all) of the forwarded e-mails. I love getting a laugh a day, just a click away.

Bee_Kay replied: My stepsister sends me all types of that crap.
I just delete them wink.gif

redchief replied: One of my employer supervisors used to send me that crap all the time. I warned him that if he kept it up I would add him to my blocked senders list. He kept it up, I added him to my blocked senders. About a month later he sent me a serious email regarding something important at work. Well, it was blocked just like the rest of his spam. He wrote me up for not responding to the email. In the end we wound up in the city admin's office "discussing" this. I explained the reason and showed my junk email folder complete with all of the nonsense emails. My action was upheld as reasonable and he was ordered to stop sending junk email from the same email box he sends work email. That's just my story... Didn't mean to hijack your topic Kelly. Sorry.

C&K*s Mommie replied: On the flip side too, many celebrities or the excessively wealthy do "good" but do not hold a press conference or make it known to the rest of us. Like Oprah, Tom Cruise, Bill and Melinda Gates (but I think everyone knows of their foundations, and charities), Tyler Perry, Bono, Angeline Jolie, etc... I actually respect those that are wealthy and do not make a big deal out of giving money away, the fact that they do on a regular basis slips out sometimes. P. Diddy is an example of someone who lost the respect of me, when he had to hold a press conference to say that he was donating money to the Hurricane Katrina relief fund... I say do it out of the goodness of your heart, not to have acclaim. dry.gif

So if millionaires are doing much more good than what we may know of, I would think that some portion of the billionaires are doing the same. There is one that I cannot think of his name now, that was a billionaire and he has XX amount of his money.gif money.gif after he passes set aside to go to a particular charity. His children are already taken care of, this is just left overs. It was a large chunk of money, too.

Bill Gates for example has a beautiful 66,000 sq. feet house. Does he need it? Of course not but at the same time he's putting more into charities than many of us will ever see in a lifetime.

Keep in mind, a homeless person may think the same of you and I. I'm quite certain all of us are buying things we don't "need". They may see us driving into the video store to rent some movies and think, "they don't need to watch movies, I need to eat, they should give that $4 to me to buy food". The only difference is that rich people have a lot more to play with. If they did what it takes (or if their parents did in the case of Hilton that you mentioned) to get the money, who are we to say what they should or should not spend it on.

PrairieMom replied:
you have a point. The word "Need" means different things to different people.
I think some of those celebrities go way overboard tho. They get more $ than they could even know what to do with. rolleyes.gif

AlexsPajamaMama replied:
my grandmother sends me a ton of forwards everyday, sometimes I feel bad deleting them because they are from my grandmother...but geesh most of them she has sent me multiple times before! rolleyes.gif
Some are funny and or cute...
