Ultrasounds and video

coasterqueen wrote: I'm in a posting mood today can't you tell? tongue.gif

My boss' wife is pg due in a few weeks and she was in chatting with me yesterday. She had asked when I'm having my next u/s and I told her it was this Thursday and we get to take a video with us because they are doing the "sex check". She was shocked that I get to take a video (vhs tape) with me. She said with all the hoopla going on with medical malpractice suits that a lot of doctor's offices aren't allowing video anymore because it is being used against them in court now. ohmy.gif Wow! I guess I should have thought that to be the case, not really that shocking. But that's cool my doc is still letting me take one in there. tongue.gif

Anyone else encounter this at all or heard of anything like this to be true?

amynicole21 replied: We were allowed to last time, but they didn't tell us so we never brought the tape dry.gif They wouldn't let us bring cameras in, but they would allow you to put the tape in only AFTER they had done all of the measuring. Not sure what the difference is between that and just scanning around to look at the baby... dunno.gif

coasterqueen replied:
Yeah we can't bring cameras or anything but they will allow you to bring in a vhs tape and they will record the entire ultrasound. They let us do that with Kylie and will let us do that with this baby.

I just hadn't heard that doctor's weren't allowing it anymore. Guess my doc isn't concerned, lol.

mummy2girls replied: yes its that way here also. Most doctors are forbidden to tell you what they think is the sex because of it being the opposite sex. and then they sue and such. The only way i found out about jenna being a girl was because i had to have an amnio done at 17 weeks.

It depends i guess on the doctor.

coasterqueen replied:
Well I'm hearing it's not just about the sex issue it's about things that can be "told" on the sono that maybe a doc missed and it's being used in court as evidence in malpractice trials.

mummy2girls replied:
yes that true here also.

DansMom replied: Wow!! I was encouraged to bring in a tape with Daniel. I went to a nurse-midwife practice, and was only allowed the one US for measurements.

coasterqueen replied:
So was I with Kylie and have been with this baby as well. I think it's a new thing with the whole medical malpractice issues...the reason why doctors are leaving states and I guess now some aren't allowing video. Very weird.

kimberley replied: no videos here either. they are worried about malpractice. sad.gif

GavinsMommy replied: When I went for my 1st u/s at 18 weeks, I called before I went and asked if I could record it. Three people told me yes. When I got there, the doctor was REALLY nasty about it and said that I was wrong...that NOBODY told me that I could record it and that it was "absolutely unacceptable". I was SOOO disappointed that I cried bc my DH, who was my bf at the time, was four hours away and couldn't attend so I really wanted a video. Instead I got ONE crappy picture and the u/s only lasted for two minutes at most and she would NOT tell me the sex even though my mom and I both know we saw that it was a boy very easily.

At my 2nd u/s at 19 weeks I took a VHS and they taped it and we found out it was a boy. DH was with me smile.gif

I just had one at 31 weeks too to check his size because I look quite small for being so far along, but he was fine. I could have recorded it but DH would NOT get up and get ready in time so we were already too late to stop and get a tape. I am really disappointed bc he was sucking his thumb and had lots of hair...would have loved to record that. Maybe I can bribe my doc into giving me another one so I can get a minute or two of footage...dunno.

I think it's ridiculous people can't record at some places. I mean...if something goes wrong and it is the doc's fault...then why can't we have something to show proof of that?? Grr!

MomToMany replied: That's the problems with OB/GYN's, and why so many are quitting. I'd rather see more midwives and less OB/GYN's anyway.

momof2girls replied: When I had Kiley a yr ago they did not allow it, and I told my Dr that stinks he agreed!

coasterqueen replied:
Mollie,

Do midwives have accountability at all though? I think the medical malpractice lawsuits are completely out of control but more so due to greedy trial lawyers...there's too many of them out there, hee hee. BUT it would scare me if there is no real accountability for midwives.

In our state there are only a few up north and it's been my understanding (what I'm being told) is that midwives are being run out of our state because of safety reasons regarding them.

I would honestly like to go to a midwife if I could but I would have to research the accountability of them though.

gr33n3y3z replied: I wish when I was having children we had a choice to have a video done ..... that was not offered back way when. sad.gif

maestra replied: We were encouraged to bring a video tape too, and I have my 18 week ultrasounds done at a perinatologist's office (my dr. refers all their "obese" patients to a perinatologist for their us- I guess they have better equipment). We got to tape the whole thing, which was great because Jaci was screaming most of the time, so at least I got to see it later. rolling_smile.gif

A&A'smommy replied: my docter had one in his office and I got a video of the WHOLE thing everytime!
