Update - could use serious P&PTs
MoonMama wrote: I took Braedin into the after hours center. We were there for close to 3 1/2 hours. They are running an RSV test (we should get that back tomorrow), but they think its probably just a bit of a cold and upper repertory infection. He also has an ear infection, so since the amoxecillin (sp) didn't do anything about it they switched us to something else. But that med is the same one he took when he had the kidney infection that gave him diarrhea (sorry TMI) and the BAD diaper rash. But its a less dose and they said to be sure to start the cream on his tush and avoid things like apple juice and such and hopefully he'll be fine. They gave him a breathing treatment there, I felt so horrible I had to hold him tightly on my lap the whole time and he cried and cried and cried! They sent us home with a nebulizer (sp) and I have to give him breathing treatments 3 times a day. Oh lord help me I'm so scared and worried about that. Anyone with experience with them please share tips or anything, I am a nervous wreck over it.
As for me my throat is sore and I'm feeling kind of cruddy. But I'm taking Zicam, cold caps, zinc, and Emergen-C and praying I am ok.
And if this day wasn't horrible enough as it is, I got news this evening that my aunt passed away over the weekend. They think from a heart attack but wont know for sure until the autopsy is done. She is who introduced my parents and I was named after.
So if you can please send P&PTs that its not RSV and that he gets well quick and stays that way, I don't get sick too, and some for my family during this hard time.
Thanks everyone.
Kirstenmumof3 replied: I hope you both feel better soon! And I'm sure the RSV test will come back just fine!
A&A'smommy replied: Goodness honey I hope Braedin gets better REALLY quickly, and that the new meds don't hurt his tummy!!!
I'm sorry about your Aunt!!!
Cece00 replied: They didnt do a rapid RSV test? Those come back in about 30-60 min.
My son had RSV last yr, and it was bad. He was in the hospital for a week, because when we got there, his o2 lvl was in the 70's
So I would just give him the treatments & watch him very carefully.
If you notice him retracting, or wheezing or making sounds, bring him back.
PrairieMom replied: I have a bit of experieance with the nebs. (I'm a respiratory therapist ) so if you have any questions, i will see waht I can do to help you out. What kind of med did they give you? One thing that helps is to use the mask ( assuming they gave you one) and maybe try to do it when he is asleep if he is fighting to much.
luvmykids replied: I'm sorry, I know the nebs can seem so scary All three of mine have needed them at one time or another.
Some of the things that helped were to show them on me first, and try to make it fun, like "Look at the magic wisps" etc...does he have any cartoons or anything he likes? I would try to make it sound exciting, like "Guess what? We get to watch Blues Clues and breathe our magic". Sometimes a reward after helped, like a sucker or something.
Hang in there, I know they fight and scream but that is actually beneficial, they draw it in deeper. I hope it all clears up quickly
I'm sorry to hear about your aunt too
MommyToAshley replied: Sorry, no experience with nebs, but it sounds like you got some great advice from the others.
I hope he (and you) feel better soon. Hopefully the new meds will help him to kick the infection.
~~~~~~~Here's some get well vibes and stay healthy vibes. ~~~~~~~
I'm sorry to hear about your Aunt. Prayers being said.
punkeemunkee'smom replied: Oh no girlie! I am so sorry he is still not feeling well! The nebs are scary but ITA with Monica-make it something fun and see if that helps. Try to get him to eat some yogurt with live cultures in it (if you can get some Pro-B granules that would work best) The stomach upset is usually caused by the antibiotic killing off too much good flora in the intestinal tract. If you can keep it there or replace it you may not see as much sick stomach. Many prayers for you right now! I am so sorry about your aunt too!!!
gr33n3y3z replied: So sorry you are both so sick I hope you both feel so much better tomorrow
I'm sorry to hear about your Aunt lots of prayers for your family
CantWait replied: Oh gosh hun, sorry you're going through so much. P&PTs, and lots of hugs.
Danalana replied: I hope Braedin is feeling better soon, and that you stay healthy! So sorry to hear about your aunt
lovemy2 replied: I am so sorry Ally - for everything - I hope you don't get sick and that Brae doesn't have RSV and many many prayers for you and your family at this time
MoonMama replied: Oh thanks so much Tara! You may get lots of questions. I was actually wondering if it would be ok to do while he was asleep. I went a head a did it that way this morning and hoped it was ok. They have him on Albuteral, half a vial each time. They did give me a mask but he WONT wear it. But I did the last treatment about 1:30pm (my time so about an hour and 45 mintues ago) he was awake and to my HUGE surprise he did great. He sat in my lap and breathed it in just fine.
Crystal as for the RSV test they said it would be back last night and that if it was before 10pm they would call me if not that they would this morning. When I posted it was after 10pm. And saddly I'm still waiting for the results. I have called them twice with the promise that someone would call me back with the results. Nothing and I am about to call them again.
Abbie, thanks for that info I'm about to send DH to the store now to look.
luvmykids replied: Tara can correct me if this is wrong, but with the mask it might work better not to actually put it on him, just to hold it in front of his face
Cece00 replied: I am sorry they are making you wait for that test....
Although if it was positive, they probably wouldve called you by now, so that may be a positive.
My kids hate the mask, too...I would just sort of hold it near their face instead of making them wear it...while I let them watch TV
redplaydoh replied: Hope he feels better soon. Both of mine are on nebs quite a bit. Right now they're both on them 3 times a day so I am doing 6 treatments all together. We call ours "dragon smoke" because they were into Dragon Tales a few years ago and the name just stuck. When they were younger I either did it while they were sleeping or watching tv and didn't make them wear the mask, just held it close. Now they hold the mask against their face themselves, no problem.
You'll be a pro at them in no time.
Good luck with the RSV results, I hope he gets a good report.
amymom replied: I hope all goes well.. Everything I would have said has been said already.
Let us know when you get the results.
boyohboyohboy replied: my son had to use a nebulizer from the time he was 6 months old, they hate it but even when they are crying they are taking deep breaths so it gets in, we also always did it when he was asleep..and usually in front of the tv also with his fav show turned way up high so he could hear it over the machine.. it took a long time for him to use it with out getting so upset, but they really do help with the breathing. it doesnt hurt them, does your mask have a red fishy looking side? we used to call it a fishy face and he liked to pretend he was a fish. you can pm me too if you have questiosn. i hope he feels better. and as i am sure tara already told you give him a drink when you are done to avoid thrush.. do you also have access to a rite aide? there is a paste called triple paste behind the counter at the pharmacy that is not a prescription, but works miracles for the type of rash he gets from the antibotic on his bottom, its pricey but it works. good luck i hope he feels better soon
amynicole21 replied: I'm so sorry about your aunt I hope that you are all feeling better soon, and I'm keeping you both in my thoughts.
DillsMommy replied: I'm so sorry you are going through this. Hang in there.
PrairieMom replied: It is best to use the mask, and if you can get him to wear it that is even better. If he won't strap it on, maybe you can just hold it on his face, if that doesn't work than just hold it as close to his face as you can. I assume that you have a long bumpy tube that comes with it? if you do, maybe he will put that in his mouth instead, some kids like to chew on the end, and that is an okay way to do it too.
I hope you get your test back soon. RSV usually gets worse before it gets better, and usually peaks around day 5 or 6. how long has he been sick?
luvmykids replied: For the diaper rash, also you can ask your pharmacist if they make butt paste...it's not the same as the one you can buy at WalMart in the diaper section but it is miraculous
lisar replied: Lexi has a nebulizer. The kids dont like them. I had to hold Lexi down just to give her a treatment. But I was always told that if they were crying then they were breathing it in. Good luck with it and I hope he is all better soon.
MoonMama replied: Thanks Tara....its not going so well now, he's terrified of it again. He screams bloody murder when it comes anywhere near him. I don't no what to do, I feel horrible and he wont come near me for hours and hours with out screaming if I hold him down. And its just a huge traumatic thing for him. He's supposed to get it 3 times a day so every 8 hour. I can give him 2 of the 3 treatments when he's asleep but no matter what he's going to be awake for one, and even when holding him down its a HUGE fight he's a strong little guy. I just don't know what to do. I'm not sure what you mean by a bumpy tube? But the one we have looks like the tubing for the air filters in fish tanks with bigger areas to go over the neb and mouth piece. Not sure how else to describe it.
Good news is NO RSV!!!!
So bronchitis. But better then RSV.
holley79 replied: Glad it's not RSV I hope he gets better soon sweetie.
MotherForever2043 replied: I'm supe glad that it's not RSV. I hope he gets better soon
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: I'm so sorry Ally. You guys are all in my thoughts. You will get through this. Praying the little guy doesn't have RSV.
Mommy2Isabella replied:
