Update on Katherine's Dermatology appt.

kit_kats_mom wrote: It went well. Besides being on the complete other side of Tampa, which means a 45 minute drive, the office and staff were great too.

The dermatologist took one look and said "ew, nasty case of excema". Then he went on to ask if we have anyone in the family with excema, allergies or asthma because they seem to be related. He also said that the dark circles under K's eyes could be allergy related. Hmmmmm dry.gif I've always though that most allergies/excema were passed down through families. Since she's so small and DH and I are large, and now the allergy thing, I'm seriously wondering if she was switched at birth. LOL tongue.gif

Anyway, he gave us a strict regimine of lotions, creams, baths etc and she will go back in 3 weeks for a recheck. I did buy some aquaphor based on Jenn's reccomendation too but I got all aveno stuff, oatmeal bath for the "itchies", bath cream and lotion. I feel so sorry for her. She's been great about not scratching it too much though. It'd drive me nuts.

jdkjd replied: You'll be surprised how quickly it clears up with the right treatment...I'm just glad it wasn't something worse. smile.gif

ediep replied: I think I missed the original post on this topic, but I;m glad that she is on the road to recovery.

Jason had this as an infant and his ped suggested aquaphor and then at the recheck, he said to put hydrocortisone on 2x per day for 7 days and it cleared up, He eventually grew out of it and hasn't gotten it again.

I hope you figure out those allergies soon.

jcc64 replied: yet another thing we share, Cary. Alec has had eczema since he was a baby- his skin still looks like a chicken's and is always extraordinarily dry, but he isn't itchy anymore. He did turn out to be allergic and asthmatic, but that he inherited from dh. K's could be an isolated case of eczema, y'know.

kit_kats_mom replied:
Ok, you are scaring me now. Did we hatch from the same egg or what? LOL

Jamison'smama replied: Sorry about the Excema, we have battled it since birth. Jamison has outbreaks every few weeks. What has kept it at bay is using the Aveeno stuff--what has worked the best lately is the Aveeno Soothing Moisture cream--I think that's the name of it. It is newer --kind of a squatty bottle with a dark blue lid. Has really been helpful. When she has outbreaks I wash her clothes in either unscented Tide or All Baby and we have Elidel for minor outbreaks and Cutivate (stronger cortisone) for the larger ones.

Hope this is a one-time event for K. Can you pin-point what she had the reaction to?

A&A'smommy replied: awwwieee poor kid!! Just to let you know that is how our docter knew Alyssa has allergies, by the dark circles and well that she is sick so much. I hope that it clears up quickly!!!!

Josie83 replied: I'm glad that you got some answers, sounds like Katherine's being a superstar with it though! xx

amynicole21 replied: Yuck. sad.gif I'm sorry she's suffering, but hopefully the lotions will do the trick. I'm thinking that Sophia's got some major allergy issues, too unsure.gif Poor kids.

coasterqueen replied: Glad you got something for it. The dark circles are a definate sign. I have massive dark circles under my eyes and my allergist said they won't go away til I get my allergies way under control. rolleyes.gif I give up trying to hide them.

I'm not for sure but Kylie shows some of the symptoms of allergies...I just hope not.

MomToMany replied: Poor K! I hope you can get it under control. At least she's not itching it.

DansMom replied: Allergies are now cropping up in all kinds of kids who don't have allergic parents. Daniel is a perfect example---extremely allergic to milk and egg, and neither DH nor I had any significant allergy issues as children or now. They don't know why allergies are on the rise, just like they don't know why autism is on the rise. Autoimmune disorders in general have risen sharply in the last two decades.

If it doesn't improve, try eliminating certain foods (wheat is especially associated with exzema in toddlers) and see if it clears up. Of course, with weight gain issues, you would hate to eliminate anything she really likes! You might consider seeing a pediatric allergist if the condition persists.

I hope it clears up on its own, though!

Kaitlin'smom replied: glad you got some answers and that she will get some relief, DH has mild excema, thankfully Kait did not get that from him, just his hot swetty stink feet. I hope it heals fast and she doe snot have any more issues
