Update on My Hospital Vent
Kirstenmumof3 wrote: Lastnight I emailed the head of the Bone Marrow Transplant Unit. I had a number of complaints and was actually shocked that he responded to my email. He has forwarded my email onto the Patient Representative Office. Basically since this doctor was not here last week he cannot speak for what happened. But this was the only contact email that I had. I'm still very angry and don't think anything will be resolved. I told the doctor that I wanted an apology from all 3 doctors that were present Friday morning and afternoon and missed the eye infection and that I wanted an apology from the doctor that prescribed the anti-biotic. Basically the head of the BMT unit said that the dosage that Spencer was prescribed was right, but that our pharmacy was probably not used to prescribing such a high dosage. Which was not the case, the pharmacist explained that this medication comes in 250mg, 500mg and 850mg tablets. Not 750mg. And the fact that Spencer was recieving 500mg in the hospital not 750mg, he seemed to miss that point completely! So basically I have come accross as a raving lunatic! I had DH read the email before I sent it and he said it sounded fine. We're both very upset by all of this!
MyBrownEyedBoy replied: I hope you get your apologies, Kirsten. You surely deserve them. Hugs, I hope that at least next time the docs are more thorough.
cameragirl21 replied: Kirsten, if the pharmacist said that the dose is illegal then it's illegal...maybe just to be sure, call another pharmacy and just ask them...you don't have to tell them who you are or about the situation, just find out if the dose is illegal. just fyi, doctors who write illegal prescriptions find themselves in jail because it IS illegal. Before I became a photographer I studied to be a doctor and worked in all kinds of hospitals and medical centers. there is no excuse for writing an illegal prescription, period. I think the only reason the hospital is giving you this lame explanation is because they're afraid you may sue them and are trying to convince you that there was no wrongdoing. stick to your guns, they made a mistake, not you. you are not a raving lunatic (or anything else) for being angry about this and taking a stand, they messed up and they could have harmed your son if the error wasn't caught. there is no excuse for this and no doctor should get away with this sort of carelessness, he could do it again to someone else and it could cost someone else his/her life.
booey2 replied: You should get them and deserve them but you never know with hospitals and all the bureaucracy that goes along with them.

A&A'smommy replied: I hope you get the opology you definitly deserve there is no reason for them to be like that towards ANY patient!!!
mom2my2cuties replied: Hey sweety - it's going to be a pretty busy day for me but I just wanted to let you know as soon as I slow down - I am going to send you a PM to finish the one I sent earlier.
redchief replied: Stick to your guns, Kirsten. You're not a raving lunatic; you're a caring mother who identified a problem in that doctor's unit.
Kirstenmumof3 replied: Thanks everyone! I just feel like crying today! Spencer went back to school this afternoon and to hear his class, so excited to see him, was so nice! But then it will be back to reality and back to the hospital at 4:30 for his next dose of Chemo.
I need a Girls night out! DH suggested it, but I wasn't too sure if I wanted to go out or not. I mean we just got back. But I've decided to call my friend and just hang out with her this evening.
kimberley replied: a think a night out is exactly what you need. any semblance of normalcy is all good. try to have a good time.
mom2my2cuties replied: Kirsten excuse the mini hijack -
Where did you go to Med School? Just out of curiosity - My niece is starting to look into medical schools and I have been helping her and we have been trying to get recommendations.
lisar replied: I hope they apologize to you. I also hope they mean the apology if they do it.
cameragirl21 replied: oh, i was just premed in college, i never applied to med school but i was in a program where i worked and studied under a series of doctors and worked in their labs, operating rooms, clincs, etc. sorry for the confusion. as for med school, it's not easy to get into but the best thing for her is to make sure she gets to know her professors who teach all her science classes so that they can give her good recommendations, that's what i did and i had stellar recommendations, i still get doctors trying to prod me to go to med school but i can't get thru gross anatomy lab with a camera in front of my face now, can i?
