Update on night weaning

amynicole21 wrote: Well, I finally had my fill of nursing all night, and as of 3 nights ago I haven't nursed Sophia from the hours of 11pm - 6am! banana.gif She has still been waking up about 3 times a night, but each night it is taking less and less time to get her back to sleep. Last night it only took 5min of walking her around each time to get her knocked out enough to lay her back down. I think by the next few weeks we may have her sleeping through the night!! Well, I hope so anyway snooze.gif

maliksmommy replied: Glad to hear things are going good, it's not easy! We had a hard time not giving Malik a bottle when he woke up but it is so worth it now! I hope you've got a night sleeper in the next few days:)

DansMom replied: It sounds like the night-weaning system really worked for you! That's encouraging for the rest of us who are considering giving it a try. I am still planning to wait a couple of months so that Daniel is over a year old like Sophia. And then I'll wait until I have a vacation so I can endure the crying and loss of sleep those first few days.

Schnoogly replied: Yes that really is encouraging! Sounds like she is ready for it, otherwise you would be having a lot more trouble.

I hope it goes smoothly for us when we try it too...

chloe&tysmommy replied: oh thats great news!!! Glad it worked out for you.. yay!!!!

Maddie&EthansMom replied: That is so great!! I bet you feel like a ton of weight has been lifted! It is so hard to go through a transition with a baby/toddler.

MommyToAshley replied: Yeah! So glad it is going so well! You deserve a break, and all this hard work will be paid off by some great sleep for both of you!

MomToMany replied: horray.gif I'm glad to hear everything is going well for you! Hope she starts sleeping through the night for you soon!

ediep replied: yea, I am so glad that it is working.

kit_kats_mom replied: How has it been going with you guys? Katherine did really well for 2 nights but the last 2 nights have been a major regression. She's been waking up at midnight and she won't stop screaming until I nurse her. She's been nursing for 3 solid hours. Bah Humbug!!! We will keep trying but it is so hard to be so sleepy. I'm so lucky that I'm able to nap during the day with her. you work outside of the home right?? I don't know how you do it. Kudos to you. thumb.gif

amynicole21 replied:
Ugh, I'm so sorry to hear that your not getting any sleep. It seems to be getting a bit better every day for us... she really only woke up twice last night. Well, I'm counting it as twice because the second time she was never really fully asleep before she woke up again. She screams for about 5-10 min. and then we have to wait another 5 min or so to be sure she's really out. Last night she wouldn't let us sit down though, so we were walking around like zombies at 12:30 and 2:30 in the morning.

Yes, both DH and I work full time. He's really having a hard time now because he has never been responsible for night time parenting before now. I keep explaining to him that walking her around the house for 5 min a night is nothing compared to what I have done in the past 13 months. rolleyes.gif Wimp. wink.gif

Maybe Katherine is teething again? It could explain why she was doing better, and then regressing. I think this is still going to be a long process for us. Now we're going to have to work on not having to pick her up to comfort her, and then after that, not having to comfort her at all. I don't expect miracles, but I am able to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

kit_kats_mom replied: One thing that has helped us is that instead of walking her around, DH can lay her on his chest, face down and she relaxes. He had to restrain her the first few times but now she lays her head right down and tries to go to sleep on him. This works most of the time for us and we co-sleep. That way he can rest/sleep while he is helping me. Not being on me seems to help her not want to nurse to sleep. He also props pillows under both of his arms because he is worried about falling asleep and flinging her off. rolleyes.gif

coasterqueen replied: YAY! Amy, I am glad things are working out and that in no time you'll be getting some more zzzz's wink.gif
