Vaccinations !! Research It First !!!

LisaZ wrote: Everyone really needs to completely research the topic of vaccinations before deciding to go ahead and do it. WHAT YOUR DOCTOR IS TELLING YOU ABOUT THE SAFETY OF THESE IMMUNIZAIONS IS NOT ALWAYS THE TRUTH......
We have 2 very good friends of ours, a girlfriend of mine and friend of my husbands from work and they both have vaccine damaged children.
My girlfriends daughter is going to be 4, has not talked since a week after her MMR.... horrible tummy problems ( autistic/measles virus damage to the intestine)
naturally still in diapers .. It's so sad.
She was almost potty trained, and talking until within 2 weeks of shot. She got it late almost 2 and still issues. Her mom feels horrible because she didn't want to do it and the doctor pressed her and pressed her, made her feel guilty and look now....

My husband's co worker, mild case after DPT .. learning disablities. Almost 3 still not talking...

I have seen what both of these families have went through and even if you have to delay immunizing, just to make sure you make a well informed decison after doing your research you will be grateful that you did not go into it with your eyes closed.......

Boo&BugsMom replied: Was there mercury in the vaccines? Mercury in older vaccines have been linked to autism, but mercury has reportedly been taken out of them for quite awhile. Interesting.

Hillbilly Housewife replied: This is a very hot topic... please make sure to remain civil amongst yourselves!

LisaZ replied: No this was just a regular MMR, and actually the little guys DPT would have been 2 years ago so it would have been after the mecury was removed.

Oh, absolutely it's a hot topic... everyone's got their own opinion and should feel comfortable with the decision that they've made. That's why it's important that you do your homework, and that you do feel comfortable with your decision, because like I said I know 2 very dear friends of ours that had absolutely no clue that there were still some very real dangers connected and wow .... the tears that have been shed... and the sadness that goes along with it, is tremendous.
It's hindsight... by the time parents learn, it's too late. You can't go back and change it. It's over with, no going back.... The damage is done.

Naturally, everyone has their own decision to make regarding this but as long as you have the tools to research both sides of the spectrum and look at some of the case studies that are out there.... You'll be surprised.

I was told by a registered nurse with 30 years experience to do my homework, I thought I had done my homework ( Concerning the Thermosal issues ) I had no clue that there was so much more to this. Ironically, It was only after I had came from the doctor's office after my son's 3rd DPT and stopped at my girlfriends on the way home from that appointment, that I seen a little girl that was back in diapers and wouldn't even say hi to me when I walked in ... this was not the same girl I had seen 2 weeks prior. This was a week after her MMR.. If that isn't enough to make you a believer !!
And there is not federal disability benefits for this girl either ... It's just horrible. They have no insurance and it just goes on and on and on....
With no happy ending in sight.

Just do your homework THROUGHLY everyone... it's for your babies.

CantWait replied: IMHO the benefits far outweigh the risks, we'll keep vaccinating but thank you for you input. thumb.gif

boyohboyohboy replied: unsure.gif I read these posts, and it just scares me to death.
I mean no one wants to do anything that would harm their child. But when ever I do research, it seems you can find something to say just about anything version you want on the internet. I mean how do you know what to believe? I have asked my dr. who I trust completely. But he says that the bennefits fair outway the risks. However that being said, are these reactions like the one described here, rare? I mean I know there are "chances" of things happening to you with just about everything we eat, do, and use on our skin, now a days...but if I can protect my child I would of course want too.
this kind of thing just inspires fear in me.

LisaZ replied: I have went both ways on this issue, and it is not a decision that I have made over night and not something I have taken lightly at all. But, my decision was pretty much made months ago when I seen little Emma and like I said I did about half of my little guys vaccinations at 2,4 & 6 months, I was not ANTI IMMUNIZATION at all. I was very concerned about Pertussis because it seemed like there were always outbreaks, not in my area but in surrounding counties and because Pertussis can be fatal to infants under 6 months of age, I did it. I think my son may have had a reaction on the last DPT, but I am not quite sure because my husband and I were both sick with colds ........ he didn't have quite the same symptoms and the reactions on a DPT, aren't always immediate. It comes like on day 7,16 & 28 or something like that. But so far so good, he seems fine.

But it just hits home pretty hard when you know people that have experienced this, and they know what has caused it, and you see the day to day struggles and helplessness, it's sad. Mom's know their babies, they know when something has changed, they know when something is drastically wrong.
I just see my girlfriend work so hard to try and minimize the effect of everything that has been done. She spends one day a week doing nothing but cooking for Emma for the week. She has eliminated all dairy, wheat and gluten from her diet, she did this 4 weeks ago and has already seen some improvement with her speech & tummy problems, but she is still in diapers at 3 1/2 years old and just in constant misery. She just is not the happy girl like she used to be...
I know that there is alot of information out there geared towards whatever you want it to say...... of course you can't believe everything you read because some of it is way out there. But I believe that there is no better research than to talk to parents that are living this nightmare........ I do it everyday.
There are message boards out there with the parents of this children... talk to them. There are plenty of moms out there some just like my girlfriend, find them and talk to them and make whatever decision you feel you need to make for your child.
Have a great day everyone !

I have read all the warnings and the positive out weights the negative. I want my daughter healthy just as everyone else does. If you read the warnings and research anything we take there is always the possibilty of a bad reaction. I didn't want my husband to take the blood pressure medicine he HAS to take and the colestrol (sp?) he HAS to take. I couldn't handle one of his pills while I was pregnant. wacko.gif

My pedi has never forced me to have my daughter vaccinated. Her and I have sat down and she has gone over each and every vaccine my daughter gets. She tells me the pros and cons of each one. She leave the discission up to me on getting her shots. I will continue to get her shots. blush.gif

ZandersMama replied:
Me too, I know that these reactions do sometimes happen but I would hate for my son to get TB, Diptheria and all those other scarey diseases and know I could have prevented it. Its the lesser of two evils. They COULD be one of the rare ones who would have a reaction to the vaccine but if they get one of these serious diseases they will DEFINITELY have devistating consequences.

amberlynnie replied: I have a child who I very strongly think was linked by his vaccines to his autism. Depending on what you believe, you can find info to suggest both ways on the internet.
I have heard about the murcury, and quite frankly, I believe it. My child was completely normal til his 18 month vaccines. He was even ahead of all the other children.
After his MMR, the signs started almost immediately.
His speach regressed. He became a mess.
I refused to have him vaccinated again until almost 3 when he was accepted into a special education pre-school, and needed his vaccines to be enrolled.
When my 2nd child was born, I refused all of his shots until 3 years old. He didn't go to a daycare, and wasn't exposed to any other children. At 3 they bombarded him with his shots, but I felt it was worth it to wait.
I recently found out you can demand the vaccines in a non-murcury form. this makes me happy, especially since I am now pregnant with my 3rd.
There are no proven or disproven links. its a personal debate, and personal decision. To me personally, I would rather take the risks of dealing with a sick child for a temporary time, than dealing with another autistic child.

The autism in my son causes frequent mental breakdowns and I have had Social Services called on me in a Wal-Mart store because some employee lied and stated she saw me punch my son in the face, then he dropped to the floor sobbing uncontrollably. I was almost arrested over this, and the whole situation was blown way out of proportion. What really happened was that my son saw the video games, broke from me and started to play the playstation at the instore demo section. I walked up and physically removed him from the situation, and began to walk away with him. He then went bonkers throwing himself to the floor in one of his common meltdowns. Frequently he had these meltdowns 20 times a day. I had to basically fight for my freedom telling the police and social services to check the surviellance tapes. I didnt strike my son, I simpy said NO and removed him, like I was instructed to do by his psychologist.

I don't want to ever have to deal with these types of situations again, and the benefit of me waiting outweighs the risks of having another child like this. If it even is possible that it is linked, I wont take that chance.

I am fortunate to only have to deal with High Functioning Autism. Thank GOD for that.

redchief replied: Autism is a terrible condition. I'm sorry, amberlynnie, that you have to deal with it. Even high functioning autism robs kids and parents of normal childhoods. I truly hope that medical science can get to the root of this insideous disorder.

As to whether vaccinations are the root of some cases of autism, I guess everyone has to form their own opinions. There is a whole lot of reading out there, and you can pretty much find well formulated articles on both sides of the issue. One thing is known, autism is usually diagnosed between the ages of 2 and 4. amberlynnie's son was diagnosed at 18 months, which by all accounts is early. Because autism is a spectrum disorder, it is impossible for it to be diagnosed at birth. It doesn't exist then because the nervous system isn't well formed enough at that age for the symptoms to present. Scientists who do not believe that vaccines cause autism feel the onset of symptoms and the timing of the onset which coincides with vaccinations is coincidental. They say that the levels of mercury, even in the older vaccines is too low to cause such catastrophic nervous disorder. They also believe that the reason vaccines are blamed are because it is felt that such an horrible disorder MUST be caused by something, and vaccines are the only common denominator, as autism occurs in all races and bloodlines.

Those that feel that vaccines are at least partly responsible point to the known science that high levels of heavy metals such as mercury have serious biological, and especially nervous system, consequences. Perhaps that is why the FDA and CDC have ordered that all vaccines have the mercury removed, even though they disagree that vaccines cause autism. Again, I'm just presenting both sides in a debate I didn't want to join. Everyone will have to form their own opinions.

Boo&BugsMom replied: I have a friend who has two child with autism. Both are now in their 20's, graduated with honors in HS and now attend college. Just want to say don't give up on any child, not that someone would however, just because they have autism. There is such great hope in such a tragedy. Remeber way back when, when people with other now common disorders were seen as helpless? We've come a long way. The issue is still scary though I will admit. It has crossed my mind quite a few times in the last couple years. I don't have a "side" persay. Before I do, I have to do more research. Even then, I may still not have a side to the issue. It's one of "those" kinds of topics where it's hard to see the real facts.

MomToJade&Jordan replied:
I am wondering why this child isn't covered under the National Vaccine Injury Compensation Program? I did go and do some research and read up on the MMR. Under Number 6 there's a number you can call and a website you can go to to find information about this program. I just googled MMR and there it was. The actual pamphlet that a patient is given when they or their child is given a vaccine.

3_call_me_mama replied:
You're right he should be covered.... but proving that is very hard to do, takes a great amount of time and cna be quite costly if you end up in court. And unfortunately a HUGH amount of patients never get that pamphlet that you are talking about. Most Dr's assume that vaccines are routine and that parents just want them done and don't offer the paper to them that theyare legally supposed to be giving them. Parents can ask for them but as I have experiences they are tossed out before you even know the shot has been drawn. (When we used to vax I asked for the pamphlet at her last set of shots and the nurse said "oh I've never had anyone want it so i just throw them out... i'll dig it out of hte trash for you if you want" )
But you're right the little boy should be covered under that program but it's a painful long process and ti doens't reverse teh damage done to him. And each parent is entitle to their own beliefs about it but as ALWAYS i reccommend that you do research it and not just blindly trust your Dr. So if you ever are in a case where you do get a bad reaction of any sort you will have teh info in hand and arent' kickin gyourself or blaming yourself for not knowing.

MomToJade&Jordan replied: I didn't realize that not everyone is given that information. The girls have always gone to a military doctor so they have to give those phamplets out and do. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and has the right to do what they think is best for their child. I also agree that you should do the research.
