WARNING ABOUT SIDEWALK CHALK
MommyToAshley wrote: I just read in one of the Parenting Mags that ToysRUs sidewalk chalk has been recalled because it contains high level of lead. I bought Ashley sidewalk chalk for her Easter Basket, but I never thought about it containing lead. The only warning on the container was that it could pose a choking hazard. Even though I didn't buy Ashley's sidewalk chalk at ToysRUs, I have decided to put it up until she is a little older... I don't want her accidentally eating it. She's only used it once when I was watching her closely (before I read about the recall) and I washed her hands immediately afterwards. She really had fun with it, but she loves doing anything outside. If it is out of sight, I am sure she won't miss it.
I just thought I would let you all know about the recall.
DansMom replied: That's very good to know!! I would not have thought of it either. And lead is just awful for a toddler's (or anyone's) nervous system. Thanks for the warning!
MomToMany replied: Was it a specific brand? We just got some from Wal-Mart for Hannah's birthday. It's the big 52 piece Crayola bucket.
Thanks for the warning, though. Who would've thought there would be lead in that?
MommyToAshley replied: It just said ToysRUs sidewalk chalk, so maybe their own brand?
Edited to say: I did a google search, here is a link that talks about it:

MomToMany replied: OK, thanks! She loves coloring, so we got it for her to use in the garage on the floor since we don't really have sidewalks up here in the boonies. We do have a really short one in front of the house that DH made to keep most of the dirt outside.
amynicole21 replied: OMG, Sophia was actually licking her sidewalk chalk the other day I'm definitely putting it away!
3_call_me_mama replied: Wal Mart recently recalled a bunch of side walk chalk also. Parents magazine had a thing on it i'd check their site. Not sure which ones but i know one was shaped like fish.
chloe&tysmommy replied: oh my..thanks for the warning. I bought some from the grocery store a couple months back and was just thinking of letting Chloe play with it this weekend! I think I'll keep it up in the closet for awhile just to be on the safe side!
Maddie&EthansMom replied: Mom did buy Maddie some sidewalk chalk for Easter...and she got it at Toys r us!! I know Maddie won't eat it, she hasn't used it yet. Should I return it or just wash her hands afterwards?!
Kirstenmumof3 replied: I've never heard of that. I always buy sidewalk chalk for my older children, but have not gotten any for Claudia. Maybe I will hold off for a while.
KatieLeigh79 replied: They should be okay if you wash their hands afterwards, just be sure they don't try to eat it or find a way to ingest it... If your really uncomfortable just keep it put away for a short time - whenever I worry on things like this I just call my poor Aunt who is an RN... But with washing their hands you should be okay!
coasterqueen replied: Wow! I got Kylie's at Walmart, but it's the Crayola brand. I guess I should check out Crayola's website to be sure theirs wasn't recalled.
Thanks for the warning though!
