WTH? My computer is ticking me off! - Porn pop-ups everywhere!

Crystalina wrote: Ok my kids were on the computer (noggin.com) and there was a pop-up that Evan closed. Apparently it was something more. I think he clicked and downloaded something on the computer. He got alot and kept complaining and dh said just close them out so he did. Then a huge porn advertisement popped up. A HUGE ad! growl.gif growl.gif growl.gif On Noggin.com! Izabella yelled for dh (I was not home) and he said the ad had pictures that would make even him shudder! growl.gif growl.gif He shut the computer down until I came home and now I have a toolbar that I can't get rid of. I can't even hide it. I've un-installed anything foreign to me yet this is still on there. How do I get rid of this toolbar which is apparently the portal to all this crap? unsure.gif I will not even let the kids on the computer anymore. Last nigt I turned the moniter off and when I put it on this morning it was full of porn and ads for security stuff. I can't even get my homepage back. I keep going to MSNBC and clicking on the homepage button yet when I click my home button it takes me to a security something or other. growl.gif If anyone can help I would appreciate it.

Here is what it is making my homepage. And with it is a WARNING box that pops up whenever I re-start my computer. The yellow arrow at the top shows the toolbar and then there is a little icon at the bottom of the screen. mad.gif

Here is another pop-up I keep getting.

Here is another.

grapfruit replied: sleep.gif Sounds like a virus.

grapfruit replied: we must of posted at the same time!

Crystalina replied: Ugh!! mad.gif
What do I do about that? I've never had a virus before. dry.gif

luvbug00 replied: virus... dry.gif that stinks. I'm sorry hug.gif

redchief replied: The only thing I can say with some certainty is that I don't think the problem started at Noggin.com. If you can tell me something about the toolbar? The popups?

Crystalina replied:

I haven't searched too much because I'm afraid to click on anything that this thing is popping up. I do know it keeps saying that my computer is vulnerable to getting some Trojan thing that will help people get info from my computer. It says this generically though. Then the homepage it makes for me is all about buying something. If you look at the first image in my OP you will kind of see what I mean.

Here are two more pop-ups I get all the time. I cannot close them. They just come back. And if I right click and close them that way it will automaticall take me to my homepage where they want me to buy something.

redchief replied: Are you currently running any spyware preventive software like Ad-Aware?

If not, try downloading Ad-Aware and running that. It's not necessary to purchase and register the product for it to find your spyware. There is other spyware prevention software out there too, some good some bad. I'm not advocating the use of Ad-Aware, that's just the first one that came into my head.

You can download Ad-Aware 2007 here.

Anthony275 replied: here's an idea: download firefox, then go in your add/remove programs and COMPLETELY uninstall internet explorer, then if you wish to redownload IE (which i dont reccomend, it's full of viruses) then go on firefox and download internet explorer

redchief replied:
IE comes bundled full of viruses?

You can also try Spybot - Search & Destroy, also free.

redchief replied: I also recommend Trend Micro's HijackThis. It's another free program that checks the registry for changes affecting your computer and reports them back to you. I'm not sure if it will help you at this point, however, since the changes have already been made.

A&A'smommy replied: Yeap you have a virus and it starts like it already took over.. you need to back up anything you have stored on your computer (put it on another hard drive) and reformat your computer.

MotherForever2043 replied: I agree with the above options. I also would reccomend a company that comes to your home and fixes the problem for you. I did it because I tried everything, and nothing seemed to work. It was my only option left. it is a little expensiv. I hope your problem goes away soon.

Crystalina replied: Thank you all for the advice. I would have replied back sooner but we had a storm and my DSL was out all last night and most of this morning.

So it sounds as if I'm pretty much scr*wed at this point. dry.gif Great. Is there a pill or an antibiotic I could give it? emlaugh.gif This is so not funny but what can I do right? wacko.gif

Cece00 replied: You need a virus software...we use AVG free edition...

Crystalina replied:
I have Norton. Is that the same thing or no?

My3LilMonkeys replied:
I second this. We had a nasty spyware problem about a month ago and tried everything that Ed suggested above at the direction of an IT guy from my office and nothing would clear it up. We had to do a full system restore.

punkeemunkee'smom replied: I just had to get a new computer...seriously-same virus (same pop-up name) killed my old one! We took it in and everything. The guy there told me to run AVG but this new one came with NORTON. I noticed yesterday that my tool bar only had 2 pop ups blocked well since surfing on here and now it has 174...IDK a few weeks ago I was getting some weird banners on here too so maybe some of us have picked something up wacko.gif

redchief replied:
Norton is fine, however you need to make sure it's updated at least weekly. Some versions of Norton AV don't update automatically well, even if you have it set to do so.

Did you try Ad-Aware?
