Water.....
akbutterfly83 wrote: How old does your baby have to be before you can give them water.... ? My friend said I should be able to give Mason water if I wanted... but not a lot.....
I gave him about an oz today... adn he loved it..... but I wanted to see when other parents started giving their children water.....
A&A'smommy replied: What kind of water did you give him? I don't think we started giving Alyssa water until she was four or five months old maybe even 6, he should be getting enough from breastmilk or formula (not sure what your doing) or both.
this is what I found
So When Do Babies Need Water? After they are six months old, infants do begin to need some fluoride, and so that is a good time to introduce some extra water into their diet, especially if they are breastfeeding, or simply prepare their iron fortified infant formula with fluoridated tap water. But before six months, the average healthy baby doesn't need any extra water.
coasterqueen replied: We didn't give water to Kylie til she was over 6 months old. They only need breastmilk or formula at this age. Water just fills them up and doesn't give them the nutrients they need to have optimal growth and development.

water for babies
ediep replied: yes, I agree with the others, I think it is an old idea that babies need water because my parents and MIL always told me to give Jason water when he was an infant. I think I started water when I started givin him a sippy cup, I guess it was about when he was 6 months old.
MomToMany replied: We just started giving Kayla (10 months old) a sippy cup with water in it. She LOVES it!
ITA with what the others said too!
jolene555 replied: I think the water issue varies by baby. I know I was giving Georgia little bits of water before 6 months old, in attempt to get her on a regular feeding schedule, or in efforts to get her introduced to bottle and/or sippy cup. I know Nathan was getting water regularly after 2 months for constipation.
moped replied: My doctor told me when I switched Jack to formula to try to get him to drink water - or else I would have a "milk baby" but he will have NO PART of water - I wish I could get him to drink it from a sippy cup or something - but NOPE
I wouldn't worry at all about water at his age!
loveydad replied: Yeah I think he's probably too young to need water. Right now his body is producing water for himself and he gets plently of drink in the formula he has .
My kids were all 6 months when they had water.
Alice replied: I agree with the others. Assuming it's not incredibly hot (right now we still have the remnants of a blizzard on the ground.) or there's no dehydration issue, I would wait until he's a bit older. There's nothing harmful about the water, but it will fill him up and do nothing for him nutritionally.
akbutterfly83 replied: Thank you all for your advice, adn input... it was really needed.....
thanks
Alice replied: Don't you wish they came with instruction manuals????
