We are home... - with baby Lauren ;)

KingMom wrote: Hey everyone! Missed you while I was away.

Well, Monday morning I got to the hospital around 5:45am and was already having contractions around 4 min apart. I continued to labor like that until around 8:30am when the doc came by and broke my water. There was maconium (sp?) in the water so she seemed concerned and didn't want me to labor very long, basically saying a c-section was likely if things didn't go fast. She was supposed to come back around 10:30am but I never saw her. She mentioned starting Pitocin if I wasn't progressing well at that point. I asked the nurse but she wasn't sure either, she was under the impression that the doc would be back around lunch. Well, I started to become irritated and on top of that my contractions had become very intense, more than I could take for a long period of time. I got the epidural and was fine about 10 min later. At 12:30 the nurse came in and said she hadn't seen the doc but was going to start me on a very very low dose of Pitocin, just to get it started. The doc came by around 1:30pm and I was progressing nicely, she was shocked actually. She came back at 4pm and I was 9cm and 90% effaced, verly likely to deliver in about an hour. They prepped the room and the doc came back at 5. I was ready to push and felt pressure everywhere. She sat down and went to examine me and shook her head no and said "sorry, your cervix has swollen over the past hour and baby is not going to make it through, we are going to have to do a c-section". I just started bawling, my dream of the VBAC was over, I told her to not continue to talk about to just get it done. 49 minutes later, Lauren Elizabeth was born wink.gif

The section went okay, I got sick twice but managed to stay awake unlike last time.

Lauren was born at 5:49pm and was 7lbs 14oz and 19 1/2 inches long. Larger than my son! He was 7 lbs 2oz and 21 inches long. NICU came during the delivery and said her lungs were clear of meconium, no need to worry there. I stayed in the hospital Monday - Thursday and got around much better this time than I did last time. Lauren weighed 7 lbs 3 oz when we were discharged and we went to the doc today and she weighted 7 lbs 6 oz. My milk had come in yesterday so I wasn't surprised to see she had gained. I still have to wake her at night every 3 hours to eat until she reaches her birth weight.

Breast Feeding is going even better than last time:) Huge releif that I haven't had to depend on my pump at all. I seem a little engorged making it hard for her to latch on but I've been expressing a little milk in a burp cloth/diaper and then trying and it seems to help.

Well, thanks for reading and I hope everyone is doing well. I planned to post pics but can't find the USB cable to connect my camera to my laptop, will look again tomorrow and if I find it, I'll make another post with pics.

BTW - Colin is doing okay. He acted out a bit last night and went to the sitter today, doing better tonight. We will have to see how the weekend goes!
