We have Croup!
MyBlueEyedBabies wrote: I have been walking arround feeling like walking Death for the last few days, last night Matt started getting real sick so first thing this morning off to the ped we went. Apparently our whole house has Croup right now...Off to go pout about feeling crummy
kayla's mama replied: Hope you guys get feeling better
jcc64 replied: Other than a horrific barky cough, what exactly is croup? Is it not another virus for which time is the only cure? The reason I ask is b/c my dd started her current virus with a very croupy sounding cough, and it has since moved into a nasty chest/head cold. Same thing for you? If so, how long?
3xsthefun replied: I hope you all feel better soon!
jem0622 replied: Oh ick. So sorry this has hit your household! Send that sick bus packing!
luvmykids replied: Kylie just had croup, the doc said it just runs its course from 3 days to a week, cold air can help (like a humidifier, but a minute in the cool night air is even better).
MyBlueEyedBabies replied: Croup could be any number of viruses it is most commonly parainfluenza It's a lot more rare for adults because we have larger airways...apparently Dh and I are moer like children than we thought From what I read it will start more like a common cold with a high fever then turn into croup instead of the other way arround. And I did read about taking them outside. I had just bundled myself up at about 11:30 last night to take MAtt out just to calm him down (that is normally a day time calimg thing here but I was desperate) but he threw up on me on the way downstairs. Too bad we didn't make it it could have made our night a lot easier as I don't think we calmed the attack at any point last night Looking at kidshealth.com this morning Matt has every single symptom. and I have most though not sure about a couple becase I don't think I fell asleep last night to know if I was doing some of th estuff. Katy seems to be a day behind Matt so we'll see tonight if she gets bad...If so we have the Steroid to give her
MyBlueEyedBabies replied: FOrgot to say that yes time is the cure but there are steroids to help open the airways and that will make night time much easier.
Maddie&EthansMom replied: Oh you poor thing. It sucks being sick when you're preggo. Feel better soon. REst as much as possible.
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: Oh no Lisa! I hope you all get better soon! Have you talked to your OB about it?
luvmykids replied: Sticking your head in the freezer for a minute works too. I don't know how you feel about meds, but the doc also said to do a double dose of the Robitussin DM if it got really unbearable at night .... I caved on the last night and it actually did work even though cough meds usually don't.
BAC'sMom replied: Hope you feel better soon
MyBlueEyedBabies replied: Thanks Dh has spent hours outside with Matt today and the rest practically sitting on the humidafier. Katy and I have been cuddling under my electric blanket (greatest invention ever btw) Matt is definately the worst off right now he's been gasping most of the day but when outside he's been going through phases of "okay" . We do have the steroids to give him tonight so hopefully he will be able to sleep. I haven't called the OB mostly because even if it is a problem I don't think they would care. When I called a few days ago about running a 105 fever they said go to Urgent Care and they would take care of me and didn't seem to care what the outcome was.
holley79 replied: I am so sorry sweetie. I hope you all get to feeling better soon.
jcc64 replied: I do remember one of my older kids having croup as a baby. We did the steamy bathroom thing, and it did really work. We also did the outside thing- which works very well in upstate NY in the dead of winter. Hope you all recover quickly!!!
MamaJAM replied: Get better soon vibes heading for you all!!
MyBlueEyedBabies replied: Well...we got to spend half the night in the ER last night After going outside, standing at the open freezer, steaming up the bathroom and one frantic call to the nurse line (me being the frantic one) we found out he probably should have gone in about 8 hours earlier. He was given 3 breathing treratments and saline in the nebulizer the rest of the time we were there. Plus an accidental very large dose of a narcotic cough medicine and another very large dose of Steroids he finally started breathing okay and his O2 stats went up and stayed up high enough that they let us go home. He seems pretty good today so the steroids are doing a good job keeping his airway open. The ped never gave any of the take him in ASAP signs so we watched him suffer most of the day thinking it was just part of it
