Website Survey

TLCDad wrote: Hi All!

To help sponsors bring deals and promotions that would be of more value to you, please take our survey that is linked from our home page. A link is provided below for you as well.

This survey will ask no identifying personal information. Its basicly just a demographic survey on who visits/uses our site. If you have any questions feel free to reply to this message.

Thanks for your help!

MommyToAshley replied: I just wanted to say thank you in advance to all that take this quick survey. It really will help us to bring you better promotions and deals from our sponsors.

kit_kats_mom replied: I don't normally do this but for you guys...ok.
How does it work? I clicked the link and it asked me to download something called "client.exe" is that ok? I don't want a virus buddy & they are getting tricky these days. rolling_smile.gif

A&A'smommy replied: i did it! biggrin.gif

TLCDad replied: Hmmm... no it should not ask you to download something. We both tested it completely and it should just be a simple common form. Might of been something else that did that. Any other web pages open? Click no and try the link again... If it asks you to download something again let me know exactly what it says and I will look into it... This I would not be happy about.

Also, I am sure your aware but for anyone reading this... You should probably never allow something to download to your computer that you did not explicitly ask for. I know some banners are doing this and I am not to happy about them and as soon as I detect one I immediately take our website off that advertisers list. So far that has worked out good. Most websites do pop-ups and although it would bring more revenue to us to cover costs of running this website I feel they are too annoying. And did not want to burden you guys with them. I will try to avoid them. I also believe popups will eventually stop due to the next version of IE having popup blocking bult in...so advertisers will not waste their time.... this is a good thing.

kit_kats_mom replied: when I click the link it opens my downloading software and a blank explorer window and it gives the following information:
URL: http://survey.burstmedia.com/cgi-win/clien...e,ad10677a,2000
download to: C:\Download\client(1).exe

The IE window stays blank if I don't download the file.

My DH is and IT director and he started the ISSA (Information Systems Security Admin) chapter here in town. The viruses are getting really sneaky now. His company had some today that took the name from their url and sent emails with infected links. The emails made up email addy's with the corp's name in it (ex: support@abc.com) and read something like this "this is the support desk. we are updating our virus protections. please click on the link to install the latest virus update"...and it was a virus.

Creeps! there is a special place for them. rolling_smile.gif

TLCDad replied:
Ok I see client.exe in the URL so that is just the CGI program running on their server and is not a virus or anything and there should not be a reason why your browser is confused with it and trying to download it. What version of browser are you using? Does this happen often on other sites?

Anyone else getting this browser glitch too?

kit_kats_mom replied:
IE 6.0 XP
