Wedding Dress - **Spin Off**

lovemy2 wrote: Just a spin off of Taylor in her Mommy's wedding dress -

What has everyone done with their wedding dresses?

Mine is packed away and sealed by a cleaner - even if Olivia never wears it in her own wedding I hope she will use it for something someday -

We used my Mom's wedding dress to make Olivia's Christening Gown - it made the event even more special - I will have to dig out, scan and post pics of my Mom in the dress and then Olivia's Christening Gown wub.gif wub.gif

DH and I paid for our whole wedding so the dress I had was inexpensive ($70) but it didn't fit very well. It was the best I could do on a budget of $5k.

Two days before the wedding, my mom decided to go look for dresses just to see if we could find anything off the rack. We went to a few stores and didn't find anything. We finally stopped into a small place and found a beautiful, flattering dress that fit me perfectly. However, it was $250.00....waaaay out of my price range.

My mom decided that she would buy the dress for the wedding as long as I put it up for consignment afterwards and gave the proceeds to her.

It ended up selling for 350.00 so I got an extra hundred bucks out of it. tongue.gif

Does it make you sad that you don't have it? I don't think I could EVER part with mine - if I could I would wear it out on weekends laugh.gif I just loved my dress -

luvmykids replied:
LOL laugh.gif Thats so sweet that you loved it so much though wub.gif

I feel the same way about mine, I don't know if any of the girls will want it for their wedding but I have it just in case cool.gif

We had a low budget too, because we just found out we were having twins laugh.gif and amazingly, I tried on about a hundred dresses and my mom insisted I didn't look at price b/c she wanted me to have whatever I loved. I picked this one and it was on clearance for $250 ohmy.gif laugh.gif thumb.gif

kit_kats_mom replied:
Nah, I'm not sentimental about that kind of stuff. I have my pictures and videos. Memories of the wedding, which turned out great. A beautiful marriage. Very little storage space. rolling_smile.gif

To me the dress was just a dress. I felt lucky that I had such a nice dress for the day but I didn't need to keep it.

lovemy2 replied:
This is true - the photos and videos, etc. and of course the marriage are all great reminders of it wub.gif

Hillbilly Housewife replied: I still have mine. I never even had it cleaned, how bad is that. blush.gif

I did try it on a little while ago... and it was hanging off.

jcc64 replied: Mine's in a sealed box in my mother's basement. Corey's chomping at the bit to have at it. Personally, I don't know WHAT I was thinking when I picked that dress- very late 80's style with HUGE puffy sleeves- totally heinous. My mother cried when first I put it on at the store (same place where that show "Say Yes to the Dress" takes place), so I just said fine, I'll pick this one. I was 25, , had no taste or interest in weddings- it was all my mother's big Italian gig. I basically just showed up and played my part. Shoulda eloped to Vegas, would have been alot more fun for me. I'll try to dig up a picture and post so you can all have a good laugh at my expense.

Kaitlin'smom replied: I still have mine, never was cleaned either. blush.gif I woudl love to dig it out and see what Kaitlin thinks of it. It was ok but I was not in love with it when I bought it, the dress I really wanted was just a bit to tight so I opted for one that was a little to big.

Crystalina replied: I never wore mine. DH and I decided to skip the wedding a few weeks before it was supposed to happen. happy.gif My sister wore my dress for her wedding. It was beautiful! The train was 16 feet long.
We opted for jeans and Harley t-shirts at the preachers house one night. wink.gif

PrairieMom replied:
I never had mine cleaned either, but I didn't have a huge dance or anything.
Its hanging in my closet. I will never ever fit into it again. My ribs spread when I was PG with Ben, so I cant get it zipped . blush.gif

A&A'smommy replied: mine is hanging up in my closet I haven't done anything to it.. it needs to be cleaned!!

Hillbilly Housewife replied:
Lol - my reception was at a ranch. Mud. Horses. Rocks. Dirt. You can imagine what my huge train looks like...

sparkys2boys replied:
Same here, its not even packed in anything either.lol blush.gif

Mommy2BAK replied: My old wedding dress is hanging up somewhere at my moms, I think my sister (15) likes to try it on, lol.

moped replied: Sitting in the bag in the basement - I should sell it really......

~Roo'sMama~ replied: Mine is hanging in my closet - I never got mine cleaned or sealed either. blush.gif I wanted to, but it was too expensive. It's in the bag from the bridal shop, but my old cat peed on the bag so I want to get the dress cleaned just in case any cat pee went through the bag and got on my dress. sad.gif I loved my dress too - it was very simple but pretty, just perfect for me. happy.gif I'd love it if one of my daughters would wear it someday, so I really need to have it cleaned!

My2Beauties replied: Mine is in the bag that it originally came in, not cleaned or sealed blush.gif I've thought about selling it a couple of times, but I'm not quite sure if I want to. It's a beautiful dress, I loved it. I might keep it for Desiree, it might (a definite might) be in style still then. I can probably forget it when Hanna gets married, it'll probably be way out of style by then, but ya never know.
