We're getting slammed - east coast storms

jcc64 wrote: Not having fun around here at the moment! Storm came through here on Tues. night, dumped 18" of very wet, heavy snow, and we lost our power (which also means no running water, heat, or phone--basically indoor camping!) Now it's Thursday, still we have no power (with frost on the inside of the windows now), and we are not expected to get it back before the weekend. To add insult to injury, we're supposed to get another 2 feet (!) of snow between now and then. I'd like to jump in the car and head south to my mom's until things return to normal, but the roads are too dangerous to go anywhere. Dh lost control of our brand new car last night and dumped it into a very deep ravine, and ds' best friend totaled his car and wound up in the hospital, though he is ok now.
On top of all of this, I've been sick with a stomach virus. Whine, whine, whine, poor me. Just needed to vent, thanks for indulging me.

moped replied: Wow you have a lot going on - i can't imagine having no power for that long, take care!!!!!!!

And feel better!

DVFlyer replied: Sounds awful.

Do you have a fireplace or other means of heat?

MommyToAshley replied: I was wondering the same thing, do you have a means of heat?

Oh gosh, that sounds awful. It's time for Mother Nature to give you all a break. Stay safe and warm and I hope this all blows over soon. hug.gif

coasterqueen replied: ((HUGS)) I hope you feel better soon and the snow stops and you get your power.

I remember the year we went without power several times and for days on end. We ran out and got a generator after that and DH rigged the furnace so it could be plugged into it and we used our camping stove and fireplace (propane). It helped, but still sucked.

jcc64 replied: Thanks all! We do have a wood stove, which has helped a lot. The lack of running water is a killer, though. Melting copious amounts of snow on the stove every time someone wants to flush the toilet is getting really old. The boys have been sent outside! rolling_smile.gif

My2Beauties replied: Jeanne, I'm over here laughing because I'm like how are you on the internet? You must have one heck of a signal LOL at least you can talk to us during all of this. I remember when we got that ice storm last year and we went 5 or 6 days without power and stayed at various people houses on their couches and it just sucked so I really feel for you! I'm so sorry you're having to deal with this weather, it's been a very rough winter even for us down here so I couldn't imagine up there. Hope your power comes back on soon!

DVFlyer replied:
Look who decided to pop in here... wavey.gif

bluebear replied: I know exactly what you're going through, but I am more south in New York so the sun is melting alot of the snow. Today has to be one of the worst days this winter.

MommyToAshley replied: I just heard on the news that you all are getting even more snow...yikes!

kit_kats_mom replied: Stay warm. I remember being in the blizzard of 76 in IL and we lived on top of an old drug store...the steam heat went out and mom and I just huddled under blankets and did our best to stay warm for the two or three days we didn't have power. We had no fireplace or wood stove so it was kind of scary.
Take care..I'll be sending warm thoughts your way from FL (even though we even had frost this morning)

bluebear replied: This season is the worst it's been in years. I didn't go to work today because where I work it had 30 INCHES of snow, at least. This weekend is going to bring more.

jcc64 replied: Hey all-
Finally, I'm back in action. Though we got our power/heat/water back on Saturday (out since Tues), we only just got our cable back tonight. There are still over 80,000 families w/o power, and some are not expected to get it back until mid-week. We wound up with about 2.5 feet of snow spread out over several days, but some areas close to here actually got 5 feet--can you believe that???
Anyway, glad to be back in touch with civilization, and to be sending kids back to school after an unexpected week together with no electronics (a fate worse than death)
Missed you guys! Oh, and LeaAnn, the reason I was able to check in here was b/c I went up to dh's office to grab my email one day.

bluebear replied: There are still families without power since TUESDAY. at least 50 trucks from Ohio and Michigan came to meet up together yesterday to go around helping ConEd get power back. Luckily I didn't lose power.
