What Wonderful State I Live In - ***INSERT SARCASM***

lovemy2 wrote: OK - great so our SENATOR Eliot Spitzer has been tied to a prostetution ring - HEEEELLLLOOO - what makes these high profile people think they are so infalliable and won't get caught - NYS has some of the HIGHEST property taxes in the country - I mean seriously - we have really high taxes - so while he was campaigning and promising all about lowering taxes, etc. gives us these rebates on our school tax but all the while he is sleeping with some pretty expensive prostitutes - $5000 an hour expensive - and they are saying he isn't sure if he will resign - Ummm last I know prostitution is ILLEGAL - doesn't that constitute a reason to be FORCED to resign - growl.gif growl.gif growl.gif

I don't usually get all caught up in politics - I am embarassed to say I probably don't pay as much attention as I should - I vote but I can't say I vote really educational blush.gif However - this type of stuff really gets me fired up growl.gif growl.gif growl.gif His poor family - a wife and three kids - I mean if nothing else shouldn't he have thought about them - sleep.gif

TrulyBlessed replied: I know where you are coming from. We've got a lot of that going on here in Michigan right now with Mayor Kilpatrick. He's sleeping with a fellow coworker, may have had a stripper killed, giving all the city bid jobs to his buddy and spending all the taxpayers money on parties and strippers. It's frustrating when you have crooked people running the government.

Jackie012007 replied: ohmy.gif I didn't know you live in NY!! I do too - what pert are you in?

And yeah, what a sleeze bag!

ETA: I just watched the video of his public apology. I feel SO bad for his wife - she is so pale and she looks like she is going to throw up on his shoes!! Poor poor woman! mad.gif

TrulyBlessed replied: I don't understand why men are willing to risk it all for sex? It really feeds into my fear that all men cheat.

lovemy2 replied:
Plain and simple he - like many other public figures whether they be athletes, politicians - whatever - high profile - you are held to a different standard in my eyes that the average Joe Schmoo on the street - even like my DH - who is a sheriff - he is law enforecement - he can't just run around acting like a nut in a bar like alot of the officers do - I mean I know they are human and they make mistakes but good god did you really think you weren't going to get caught when you are messing with something like a Prostitution Ring - the freakin' FBI was investigating it - don't even get me started I am really angry growl.gif growl.gif

I live in Rochester....

TrulyBlessed replied: Maybe I worded my statement wrong. I totally agree that he is held to a higher standard and it sickens me that these "role models" do this. That is why I asked why are men willing to lose it all for sex? Whether they are married, an athlete, mayor, governor. I wouldn't think sex is worth losing my home, family and career for, so I don't understand why these men are willing to risk it all. I definitely think they should lose their jobs though. I hope they get our Mayor out of office for his sex scandals.

Jackie012007 replied:
ohmy.gif I live in Utica! But Carl went to RIT! Hi, long distance neighbor! wavey.gif

lesliesmom replied: It will be interesting to see if Spitzer steps down. I too live in Michigan (and work in the great city of Detroit) where our corrupt mayor is refusing to step down over his affairs, firings, and other wrongdoings. Maybe if Spitzer resigns, Kwame will follow.

These politicians think they are infallible and that they are above the law - because they are part of that law. It just makes me sick to see when these people go out, get in trouble, cover it up and then end up costing tax payers MILLIONS of dollars for their coverup..... GRRRRRRR growl.gif

lovemy2 replied:
I am not sure if he will have a choice but to resign - this is a Federal matter - he broke Federal laws - not just an affair - an illegal affair - so my guess is they will not prosecute in exchange for his resignation but in my eyes he should not be forced to resign - he just SHOULD resign AND he should be prosecuted - growl.gif

jcc64 replied: He's actually the governor, not a senator, and he ran on his well-established reputation of being the great clean-up guy. He spent 8 yrs as the state attorney general, and he was elected to governor's office in a landslide largely b/c of his high profile, successful campaigns against white collar corruption on Wall St. He also, insert chuckle here, prosecuted a few prostitution rings and organized crime rings. His star was beginning to fall before this thing- though I admittedly know very little about NY state politics and can't articulate why in any substantial way.
In my opinion, he has no choice but to resign. This development is positively Shakespearean, and it only goes to show what happens to people in high places. Of course, in my extremely jaded view, people with solid morals don't aspire to high political offices.
And I'm from NY too, btw. Catksill region.

lovemy2 replied:
Duh - my goof - he is the GOV - not the Senator - in my heated state of mind over it all I got all messed up laugh.gif

It is blowing my mind that he STILL hasn't resigned - and yes that is the irony - here was this squeaky clean guy who made a reputation for himself being tough on all kinds of crimes, etc. in the State Attorney Gen Office and then whoa - look what he went and did - they keep saying he is "holed" up in his apartment - well hello - drag his sorry butt out and MAKE him face the music - meanwhile who is manning the office I wanna know???????????????????

A&A'smommy replied: ohmy.gif ohmy.gif thats insane!!!

jcc64 replied:

I believe his name is David Patterson??? He's the Lieutenant Governor, and if he assumes the office, as is expected, he will be NY's first African American gov, who also happens to be legally blind.

lisar replied: I heard about this on the radio. I think he should resign voluntarily and if he dont then he should be forced to. And his poor wife it must be so hard for her right now to keep a straight face.

lesliesmom replied: They were talking about it here and they were saying that part of the reason he hasn't resigned yet because he was waiting to see if he was going to be arrested. If he is arrested, it is assumed he would resign (if he hadn't done so by then) as part of a plea agreement.

lovemy2 replied: Yes - I know the Lt Gov. is really manning the office I was kinda being sarcastic wink.gif From what I understand and have heard the Lt Gov is more than capable as well -

I also understand that he probably hasn't resigned yet because he is using his resignation as a bargaining chip to NOT be arrested - ie: I will resign it you drop it.... growl.gif Haven't checked yet today if he has resigned yet or not - last I heard was if he didn't by today then they would start impeachment process tomorrow - which makes me even more angry that they will have to spend all that money on that process - apparently he has been visiting prostitutes regularly for TEN YEARS ohmy.gif growl.gif
