What a disaster
PrairieMom wrote: My house it totally thrashed. One of the reasons I haven't been on lately is that I found water in my basement (our computer room) last Monday and have been trying to deal with it all week. We FINALLY got a plumber out here on Wed. He cut 2 holes in my office wall, and one in the ceiling before finding out that the water was comming from upstairs. Then he pulled out my dishwasher and cabinet and cut another hole in my wall to expose my pipe, where he discovered that a nail has been driven through it 6 years ago when my house was built. it must have been slowly leaking all this time. or maybe the cold weather had something do do with it. I don't know, in the end, the result is the same. So, My cabinet has been pulled away from my wall, and I haven't been able to use my dishwasher since Wed. the repair guy came over this morning, and set up 2 huge noisy fans in my house to dry out my walls and carpet. They will have to run all day and night, and HOPEFULLY things will be dry tomorrow. Then on tuesday a guy will come to repair my drywall. After that I can see about putting my kitchen back together. I have no idea what this is gonna cost us, but we have a $1000. deductable on our home owners insurance, so in the very least we will be out that money. Good thing its tax return time. What a friggin mess.

SORRY TO HEAR, HANG IN THERE
PrairieMom replied: yup. And WHO do you think just paid off their credit card 2 weeks ago? ME!!! I swear I am never going to pay that thing off again. i'm just gonna keep a $20 balance on there to ward off evil spirits.
holley79 replied: I am so sorry sweetie.
Calimama replied: Yikes that really stinks!!
CantWait replied: What a disaster. Sorry Tara, hope it's fixed soon.
Kirstenmumof3 replied: I'm so sorry this happened to your house! I hope it doesn't cost to much for all of the repairs!
sparkys2boys replied: Oh I am so sorry. Nothing worse then a mess like that. Hope you get it fixed up soon
PrairieMom replied: the contractor jsut called me and said it would be $1075. total. Nice. If I have to pay a $1000 deductable I want the total to be something higher to make me feel like I got a better deal! I guess I still have to factor in the plumbers bill, so I suppose insurance will end up paying a whopping $300 or so. Insurance. What a racket.
BAC'sMom replied: I'm sorry Tara
cameragirl21 replied: i'm so sorry, Tara, i've been wondering where you've been. what a mess, at least the damage isn't worse...a pipe leakng for six years could have caused much more damage. take care.
PrairieMom replied: Yeah, between that, DH updating the computer and the kids, I've been a little crazy lately.
MoonMama replied: Oh man, I'm so sorry.
MyBabeMaddie replied: Uhh Yuck! That really stinks! I'm sorry about the your disaster!
That happened to my mom last summer when a tree fell on her house. She convinced the Tree Remover (he was a friend of the family) to bump up his price so she wouldn't feel bad that she had to pay $1000 and the insurance paid like pennies.
Boo&BugsMom replied: Oh gosh Tara. What a nightmare! I hope things get back to normal for you soon dear.
luvmykids replied: UGH. Sorry about the whole mess. I can't handle that kind of stuff
3xsthefun replied: Oh,no! That stinks! I hope the mess can be fixed soon.
PrairieMom replied: We ran those noisy fans all day and night, but the wall still wasn't dry enough this morning, so We have to run them until monday. Monday the drywall guy will be over to fix that part.
grapfruit replied: My advise would be, if it's only a couple hundred dollars more then your deductible don't claim it. That can just cause you more headaches in the long run. Especially if you decide to try and switch companies...Homeowners insurance is really more designed for BIG claims (like a couple 1000 or more worth of damage)
