What about your house do you LOVE? or not?
Our Lil' Family wrote: I thought about this last night, then saw Ann's post today, may be kinda similar.
I'm always drawing up plans for my "next" house in my head and I'd like to hear what things your house has that you just LOVE or what you definitely want in your next house.
My next house will have a Mud Room, from the garage and from the back yard, we will enter into it and it will be where all the dirty shoes go and the dirty clothes stay. It'll double as the laundry room with tons of shelves for shoes and hooks for coats etc. and a utility sink with a hose. Ideally I'd like it to have a drain also so I can hose off dirty kiddos before they reach the rest of my house!!
What about you??
DVFlyer replied: I love the fact that I have equity and if I can control myself and not take money out, I'll have a decent amount of money when I sell it.
Crystalina replied: The only thing I like about my house right now is where it is located. We started fixing it up 2 1/2 yrs ago and guess what...we are STILL fixing it up. With DH's job it's hard to finish it. We have projects started everywhere but nothing is finished. I'm living in the Money Pit.
MamaJAM replied: I love that we have a basement and can store our stuff in our own home (we used to have storage split between my parents' house and ILs'). Also - I'm happy we have our own washer/dryer. Plus - I love having a gas stove (and gas hea isn't too expensive either).
What _don't_ I like about my house....hmmmm -- where to start! First off - it's way too small for our family -- it's really supposed to be a two-bedroom house but the previous owners converted the attic into a third bedroom. Of course - 3 bedrooms....7 people - you do the math. Also - we have ONE bathroom in the whole house -- yes ONE (again - one bathroom, 7 people.....do that math too ). Then there is the living room/dining room that is our entire downstairs (well - we have a kitchen downstairs too...but the only 'living spaces' are the LR/DR and our dining room table takes up that entire space. The LV is 12'X15' and only has seating for 5. Also - we live in a twin (duplexe) so we share one side wall with the woman next door -- thankfully she's older and pretty much deaf....she's quiet and she can't really hear us. Lastly - we live on a corner. I thought this would be a plus...but it's turned out to be a minus with stuff. We have sidewalks the entire way down - and shoveling can be quite exhausting. Oh -- and we don't have a garage either.
OK....I'll stop now -- all that really matters is that we're happy and relatively healthy. Yes -- money could buy us a larger house -- but it can't buy us happiness....and there are other priorities for as as to where to spend our money.
C&K*s Mommie replied: I love our house because we have room in the front yard and back yard to move. Some new houses around us now, are crammed onto small lots, and there is little room between the house next door, and the house in the back of it.
I also love the wall that seperates the LR from the KT. If I see someone coming to the door, and I am not ready for them or I do not want to answer at all, I can go into the kitchen and stay there without being seen, if the windows are open.
There are somethings that I do not love/like, but I can live with them until we change it. Mostly, I do not like the fact that there are no trees in our front yard, I want a big oak or something to shade the daylight sun and also a place for the kids to sit and relax in the shade.
Heather77 replied: I love our house!! It's only 2 years old, we have a huge fenced in backyard, and the inside is really open ... the kitchen family room and living room are kinda like one huge room. That's what initially made dh and I fall in love with it. The one thing I wish we would have done was get a 4 bedroom instead of 3. That's the only thing I think I would change.
ashtonsmama replied: We love the size of our house, we have 5 bedrooms, 3 1/2 baths...it's just nice a big! And the location you can't beat, we're only about 20 minutes from the beach...we love it! I don't think we'll move if we can help it! Ryan's parents were wonderful, they helped us buy the house as a wedding present (REALLY nice of them)... So we'll probably try to stay here as long as possible!
ilovemybaby replied: The only things I really hate about our house is that the whole thing is small. Especially the laundry room and bathroom. And we only have two bedrooms. And the electrical wiring is shocking. Our lights are always blowing. And it's not the lightbulbs. It's the wiring. The painter did a shocking job too. Didn't sand down the walls before painting. You can see holes in the walls that had been plastered up under the paint. The paint flakes off the cupboards and doors. Thank Goodness it's not lead based paint.
My dream home would have air conditioning and a dishwasher. And maybe those heated tiles in the kitchen for winter
Edited: because I forgot the shocking plumbing work.
We have spent a lot of money on this house fixing things that should have been done properly in the first place KWIM? Like we had to fix the plumbing under our hot water cylinder because there was a leak in the pipe. Well the stupid pipe was only plastic. So the plumber replaced that with a good strong pipe. He said we'd have to spend a lot of money to fix all the plumbing. It is really bad.
holley79 replied: I hate our stairs. Our next home will be a one story. There isn't a whole lot that I love about it expect the closet below the stairs. Good when the weather gets roughs.
mckayleesmom replied: WHAT I HATE
1. Hardwood floors....too much work 2. All rooms are upstairs....I wish I had 1 downstairs 3. Only 3 bedrooms...a playroom would be nice 4. It is really old 5. It is infested with ants....the foundation is really old and has cracks where they get in 6. The bathroom is outdated 7. I JUST HATE EVERYTHING....lol
WHAT I WANT IN MY NEXT HOUSE
1. 4 bedrooms 2. Fenced in backyard 3. Carpet in most areas besides the bathroom and kitchen...NO WOOD 4. Attached garage 5. Hopefully a landlord that will let us paint and make it a little more personal 6. A landlord that doesn't mind me gardening and planting flowers 7. Dh wants a pool....I haven't decided 8. 2 bathrooms 9. Garbage disposal 10. dishwasher....THAT WORKS
I have so much...I will have to get back to you...LOL
MyBlueEyedBabies replied: what I LOVE
My closet , I have a nice sized walk in closet and Dh has the little (he calls it pantry) on the other side of the bathroom. But it allows us to no have dressers or anything taking up room in the bedroom My basement. I'm a Californian so basements are new to me. I really just want to finish it now I am starting to like my back yard but want it to be finished and automatic sprinklers in the back would be nice too...though i did do a good job on our "poor mans sprinkler system"
What I want in my next house The laundry room to be on the same floor as bedrooms, so for us upstairs instead of main level (i want this for this house but...) I want hardwood floors, they might be a PITA to dust but as long as you get good floors they hold up so much better than anything else I am currently eyeing the bamboo floors because they have a huge guarantee on the finish and can be sanded and refinished dozens of times
ilovemybaby replied: I want hardwood floors too. They are so much easier to clean. You just need a mop and bucket. If I have to clean the carpet it is way more trouble. We have three cats and it is a real PITA to clean up cat vomit and we have had a couple of poop incidents with Abby. We have to pay about $50 to hire the Rug Doctor from the supermarket. With the amount of times the carpet gets dirty it's not worth cleaning it that way.
I so want hardwood floors!
My3LilMonkeys replied: I love the location - close to MIL and both SILs (most people's nightmare, but I love it!)
I hate everything else - I can't wait until we get into a new house. That will be at least 12-15 years probably.
coasterqueen replied: I LOVE the fact that Dh and I designed and pretty much did all the building on this house. Our blood, sweat, and tears are LITERALLY in this house. I love the fact that we have 3.5 acres of land that we will be able to do a lot with someday when we get rich. I love my master closet - LOVE IT! I love how the master closet is IN the master bath. I love the master bath on the other end of the house from the kids rooms (or what we call the kids wing). I love living out in the country and in the school district that Dh and I grew up in as well as living close to family (mine and his). I love how I have enough room between me and neighbors so I don't feel like I have no privacy. There really isn't much about my house I don't like.
MM'sMama replied: I actually really love my new house so far. We are on the same street as my parents and my in-laws.
But I HATE HATE HATE the white carpet the previous owners had 3 yr old triplets and they picked it and loved it....WHITE CARPET?!?!?! WTH who has white carpet by choice and kids? Although it is in great shape well for now anyway.
redchief replied: What I love about our house? I grew up in this house and my father before me.
What I hate about our house? It's too small, poorly layed out and has too many years of abuse in it since a major renovation... That's all slated to get fixed, but I'm getting impatient with the general contractor (who unfortunately is also a good friend... I think he might be taking advantage of that).
MommyToAshley replied: I love our deck and sometimes our back yard. I say sometimes because it has so many trees and it's a pain in the *you know what*. We had a few trees removed and I think we are going to get some more removed this year. I like our family room in the basement. It's just a big fun room to spend lots of time with the family.
What I don't like: The main thing I don't like is the size of the kitchen. The next house I buy will have a HUGE kitchen. We have a formal dining room that I could do without... I wish we had used that space for the kitchen instead.
And, I don't like that we have 3 bathrooms. I hate cleaning bathrooms. We really don't need three, it's just more for me to clean.
na81 replied: We have been in our house for 3 years now and we have so many things we want/need to do, but just can't afford right now. When we moved in we had a huge brick wall in our backyard (used like a fence/sound barrier because we live "in town" and there was a business right behind our house), it was like 8 ft. tall and went the whole width of our yard. Well, the business moved and guess what they did? They decided to build Walmart there and they tore down our wall!!! Turns out the wall was actually just outside of our property line!!! Anyways, so now we have to deal with people walking through our yard to get to Walmart. We want to put up a fence but it is going to cost a lot of money that we just don't have right now. Our house is like 30 years old, so it needs new windows and siding. We have done quit a bit of work to the inside, but there is plenty more to do!! When we bought the house we didn't realize how much $$$ it would take to fix it up!! How dumb were we? Oh well, you live and learn right?! My next house will definately have a laundry room upstairs!! I would also like bigger bedrooms!! Fenced in backyard- a must. Most of all- not have Walmart in the view of my backyard!!!!!!!
Brias3 replied: Hmm....well I LOVE our deck, our Florida room (very relaxing and nice with good weather) love the kitchen (just the right size for me) and I love the bedroom sizes. I both love and hate the pool. I DO NOT like the dining room (too big and we barely ever use it) the main floor closet space (not enough) and the fireplace in the family room. We're currently in the process of redoing it because the people who lived in our house before us were clearly obsessed with gold and I have now spent the last six months redecorating and removing all gold from the house
