What do you do - Shopping and Loading the car with child

CantWait wrote: Ok I bring this up because I had a horrible dream the other night and it got me thinking.

I dreamt that I do as I usually do after shopping. I take Anthony out of the cart, buckle him in his carseat, then load the groceries in the car.

This is where it got scary. In my dream, I got carjacked, a guy came up behind with a knife and wanted my keys. I've always been taught that if someone wants your keys, to throw them away from you and run in the opposite direction.

In my dream I detached my car key from the rest, and threw the other bunch, then got in my car and locked it and honked the heck out of my horn and ran the SOB over.

WWYD?

Do you load the kids in the car before you load the groceries?
What would you do if you had the kids with you and something like this happened?

It really makes me think.

gr33n3y3z replied: Thats a good question

Well when the kids were very little I would put them in as toddlers they would just wait in the cart until I was ready unless it was very cold out

If they had a gun I would say my kid or kids for the keys

If they had a knife I would make the same offer if that failed then take them on bc they are not getting the kids either way

My3LilMonkeys replied: Unless it is raining or extremely cold, I load the groceries first, return the cart & then load the kids.

Hillbilly Housewife replied: What would I do? Back Roundhouse to the head, quickly followed by a couple quick shots to the nads.... laugh.gif

I keep the kids in the cart until I've loaded the groceries. But rarely do I have the kids with me if I'm shopping alone... dh and I usually go with the kids and we all do it together. In any case... the kids stay with me at all times. I don't leave them in the car alone for any reason. I just can't do it.

Boys r us replied: Oh Marie, what a horrible dream!!!

Well, I used to buckle them in the carseat and then put the cart back in the cart coral thing...but ever since that thing in TX at the wal-mart where that woman kidnapped a baby from the car while the mom was putting the cart back, I never ever leave any of my alone for a split second! It's definitely more of a pain to have to lug them across the parking lot with no cart on the way back from returning it...but I uaully try to make sure I park very close to a cart return and in the end..it's obviously worth the effort considering I don't know what I would do if anything ever happened to my kiddos!!

3xsthefun replied: I use to put the girls in the car first then put the groceries in the car. I put the groceries away first, and then take the cart back with the girls, and then we get into the car.

C&K*s Mommie replied: Scary that you mention this Marie. This has been on my mind alot. For us parents who have smaller children that need specific vehicle restraints and those same car seats take more time to buckle and/or unbuckle I have been thinking, as sad and scary as it is, that someone could easily overtake a parent as they lean in to buckle their child in/take them out.

If just one child is with me, I load gorceries, then unload that child. If both are with me, I let them pile in the car, buckle one in, unload groceries, then buckle the other in. We had this discussion a yr or so ago about parking carts in corrals or in between cars, but I still do not leave our girls (in a locked car of course) to put back a shopping cart if the corrall is some distance away. Only if I am alone do I leave to park a shopping cart where it belongs.

IDK what I would do for sure until I am there. But I refuse to let anyone take my girls without a fight I do know that. mad.gif

mummy2girls replied:
Just because of that reason I load my broceries first then put jen in the car. Unless there is someone with me then i put her in first:)

Our Lil' Family replied: I load groceries first then Thomas.

lisar replied: I always put the kids in the car first also. I dont know what I would do. I have a concelaed weapons permit so honeslty I think I would shoot him.

boyohboyohboy replied: I have always put the grocieries in first then the kids, but you are right, its a horrible thought.
I used to worry about someone breaking in the house too, wondering how would I get my kids out..but like Lisa I would shoot them. no second thoughts.

holley79 replied: Well I almost always try and park next to a cart corral. I also load Annika first then the groceries. I have a single cab truck so pretty much everything goes in the cab or right behind in the bed of it. I also have a conceal weapons permit and would shot then ask ??s later. unsure.gif

Boo&BugsMom replied: I get Tanner out first and he helps me. He then goes with me to put the cart back and then I buckle him in last. smile.gif

Calimama replied: I'm rarely grocery shopping alone, but if I am I do groceries first then Bella. wink.gif

PrairieMom replied: Now that its cold I load the kids, then the groceries. I ALWAYS park right next to the cart corral, so I don't feel like I am leaving the kids at any time, but I always lock the car doors when my back is turned to the car.

~Roo'sMama~ replied: I load the groceries first and then bring Andrew with me to put the cart back because I don't want to leave him alone. If I parked in the space right next to the cart corral I load the groceries, then buckle him in and then put the cart away. What a scary dream! hug.gif I've never even thought about the fact that someone could come and try to steal your car while you're loading groceries. I guess that's another good reason to put the kids in last!
