What food to take

Jamison'smama wrote: My neighbor just had hip replacement surgery and is home now, I wanted to take over an easy meal for them. We don't know them well, they are an older couple and are very friendly but I have no idea what they like? Any suggestions?

My two thoughts thus far are either a meatloaf or chicken and dumplings but I am open.

Thanks

ammommy replied: Meatloaf is probably safe, but a couple of other ideas are pot roast or a pot of beef/chicken vegetable soup. They can get a few meals out of these dishes and the whole meal is in one container. That's very nice of you, BTW.

MommyToAshley replied: Chicken Dumplings would have my vote... everyone I know loves them. wink.gif

What a kind gesture, you're so sweet.

ediep replied: I'd probably make a baked ziti....

Jamison'smama replied:
Although I would rather eat that--I don't know how to make a good baked ziti!

ediep replied: do you want a recipe? its not hard at all!

mckayleesmom replied: mmmm....Im a chicken and dumplings fan myself.

ions_momma replied: I would probably say chicken and dumplings. I dont think I know anyone that doesnt like it!

~Roo'sMama~ replied: Chicken and Dumplings sounds good to me! I think it would be a safe bet for an older couple too. wink.gif

Maddie&EthansMom replied: yummy.gif Chicken and Dumplings. I want that recipe for baked Ziti, Edie! biggrin.gif

Jamison'smama replied:
Yes please!

kayla's mama replied:

I HATE chicken and dumplings lol I think I'm the only one blush.gif

I would take over a pot of soup or a chicken rice casserole.

A&A'smommy replied:
Your definitly NOT the only I hate chicken and dumplings too! YUCK

a pot roast sounds good and YUMMY baked ziti!!

ediep replied:
ok, here is what I do...

Boil 1 pound of ziti
Drain pasta and put in a 9x11 alum pan. Add one conatiner of ricotta cheese and smoosh it around, add 1 jar of your favorite sauce (I make homemade sauce, but you can use whatever tomato sauce you like) Mix it around. Top with a few handfulls of shredded mozzarella cheese and a few shakes of parmesian cheese. Cover with foil and bake at 350 for about 30 minutes

Maddie&EthansMom replied: Can I have your homemade sauce recipe? biggrin.gif Please don't tell me it is a family secret. laugh.gif

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: I would probably make a vegetable lasagne or a roasted chicken. Both are good leftovers.

You guys...what are chicken and dumplings? You guys all talk about it like it's a common meal? When I think of dumplings, I think of pot stickers or some chinese steamed rice filled thingy. Like dim sum! But I have a feeling you guys are talking Bisquick with gravy or something? Am I wrong? Only asking because we talked aobut chicken fried chicken before...and I had no idea exactly what it was.

Funny how we all eat differently.

MyBrownEyedBoy replied:
Dumplings- think of noodles, balled up instead of rolled out.
Personally, I hate them. I always thought they were slimy. Then again, I was the kid who hated noodles. I didn't even like mac and cheese.
I would go with a crockpot soup or stew. Good leftovers. Or the meatloaf.

ediep replied:
well, my dad makes his own canned tomatoes with fresh plum tomatoes that he buys by the case in late august. so I just put a little extra virgin olive oil in a sauce pan with some chopped up garlic and onion. Let it cook for a few minutes, don't let it get brown, and then add my dads jars. But, you can use cans from the store, I would by Rienze brand, they are really good. use a big can of crushed tomatoes and a big can of tomato puree. If you like a really thick sauce you could also add a small can of tomato paste. Add salt, pepper, basil, Cook on med for about 30 minutes.

Maddie&EthansMom replied: That is so easy and sounds DELICIOUS!!! yummy.gif Thanks, Edie! thumb.gif

ediep replied:
I've never had chicken and dumplings either

Boys r us replied: Chicken and umplings are delicious!!

Edie, I made baked Ziti last friday for a co-worker whose FIL passed away..it's so quick and easy and YUMMMY!
