TANNER'S MOM wrote: My husband and I have been trying to control expences in hopes of Christmas.
He thinks our major expence is food and needs to be cut in half. HELLO we have 4 kids to feed. I spend around 100-150 on groceries a week, and this usually includes household needs such as toilet paper, shampoo, laundry soap etc?

I think I am a smart shopper what do u guys think?

Boys r us replied: OMG.....$50 a week he wants you to spend???????

blink.gif Tell him to go to the grocery store and spend that!! I think you're a VERY smart shopper to only spend $150!!! As ashamed as I am to admit it, we spend over $300.week in groceries. Of course, I've been known to be able to blow money like there's no tomorrow..and we eat pretty well around our house. They would all think I was crazy if I served anything less than a 4 course meal each night. Did I mention that we eat out 3- 4 nights a week and I still spend this much?
Oh hun..I would be your husband's worst nightmare!!!!!!! emlaugh.gif

I'm lucky I guess b/c my DH is a pig and always says, the one thing we'll never skimp on is food! LOL.. rolleyes.gif

favre4fan replied: We spend about 300 every other week. 50.00 is not enough money for one week even if u buy off brand items!!

kimberley replied: haha i second nichole's BOLD statement! we have 3 kids and spend at least that much a week. tell DH to do the meals and shopping for the week with his measly $50 and then tell me how many things he runs out of by wednesday! rolling_smile.gif good luck!

Kaitlin'smom replied: I agree send hi to the store with a list and $50 see how far he goes. i wish I could come away that cheep. I should go more often btu I dont so we are about $100 every 2 weeks......like I said I dont go as much as I should and I dont count household stuff in that just food so i guess with tp, dipers, shampoo and stuff liek that it would be a lot more

My2Beauties replied: $50 only covers diapers, razors, and meat for us.... rolling_smile.gif We have a household of 3, just one baby living with us and about twice a week DSD stays the night, we just went to the grovery store the other day and spent nearly $200, we do this at least twice a month so that averages out to $100 a week with only 1 kid, I couldn't imagine 4!!

TLCDad replied: $50 a week? LOL! Theres no way we could ever spend that little a week. Its more like $300 here and sometimes more and we use every cost savings we can (sales, coupons, etc). Of course, one habit we have is buy certain items we do not really need just because they are on sale, especially snacks blush.gif

Sometimes I wonder if it would be cheaper just eating out every night... once you add in the cost of running the dishwasher etc afterwords.. I wonder how much difference there would be.

gr33n3y3z replied: LOL sorry I spend about 150. to 200. a week depending on extras that we need at that time.

mummy2girls replied: LOLOLOL!!!!!!! I agree with Di.... give him the 50 bucks and tell him to only spend that...LOL. im sure he will change his tune after!

Maddie&EthansMom replied: There is no way!! I don't even know how much we spend. I know I can go to the grocery store for one meal and spend $50 though. My family is much like Nichole's though...we eat very good around here. DH won't have anything less than a 4 course meal every night. rolleyes.gif And like M2A and TLCDad, I tend to pick up things I shouldnt' instead of sticking to my list. blush.gif

stormyanne replied: omg your dh has lost it. we went to the store monday hoping to spend ONLY $90 and spent $110, not even getting everything we needed! i have been using coupons and i always look for the best deals, i do much better shopping without DH or DS (better concentration and no DH throwing in crap we don't need!). one of our local stores has a weekly 10 for $10 sale on things, you don't have to actually buy 10 to get the deal (if you have a membership which i do of course).
unfortunately, the cost of diapers always racks it up quite a lot...
tell your DH to WAKE UP CRAZY MAN!

3xsthefun replied: LOL there is just no way! My husband has told me try to spend around $75 every two weeks! rolleyes.gif There is just no way!

We spend $150 to $200 every 2 weeks. That includes food for us, the pets, laundry detergent and other stuff we need.

I do try not to buy alot of name brand items. That is what will get you! I go to Wal Mart so I try to buy Sam's Choice & whatever their name brand is. I don't buy alot of Kraft, Oscar Myer, Tyson, or Sara Lee. I think the cheaper brands are just as good, maybe not all but alot are.

5littleladies replied: Yeah-50$ a week is a bit ridiculous. We get away with 75$ a week (family of 5) and that is with much planning. Maybe you could come up with a compromise?

aspenblue1 replied: we spend more than 50.00 a week and there is just the 3 of us.

coasterqueen replied: We spend a total of $300 every two weeks for groceries and household supplies, diapers, wipes, etc. That is for a family of 3 and two cats, lol.

We also spend more than that during the week with our spending money.

Isabellasmom replied: I spend $200/month on groceries. BUT I only have one child and my brother to feed. but this also does include cat food, dog food (for 3 dogs), toilettries and diapers and such.

booey2 replied: My Dh complained once and I let him go the next week with the same list of food I bought that week and boy did he ever snap out of it fast because he came home with more food than what was on the list and spent almost double what I did. So now he lets me alone about the groceries unless I go really nuts or it is the end of the month.
