What kind of booster seats - do your kids have??
mckayleesmom wrote: Mckaylee is still in one like this....because stayed so short for the longest timehttp://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=8207450.
She is finally started to outgrow it though....I would like to get her a booster type one, but not even sure where to start....Most of those ones where the back slides off don't seem very safe to me, but it might just be the ones I looked at. Are there any that use the car seatbelt, but also have some sort of seat belt locking system built in?
PrairieMom replied: I was just going to post on this topic. We have 4 of these: http://www.amazon.com/Cosco-Alpha-Omega-El...27014015&sr=1-5 2 for each car. for a booster you just take out the 5 point restraint and use a shoulder belt. When it is a booster you don't fasten it to the car seat in any way. Yesterday when Ben was in it I went around a corner and it tipped of the seat, leaving him hanging over the isle of my van by his seat belt. not to impressive. Although, in the 5 1/2 years I have been using this seat its the only issue I have had.
eta: your link didn't work for me. It said the product was unlisted
A&A'smommy replied: Alyssa has an eddie bauer from target and we love it
Kaitlin'smom replied: well in the state of Ohio Kaitlin no longer is required to use one, but I wont tell her that. dont tell her. She uses a high back booster, it does not lock in and uses the sholder belt in the back to lock her in. I have not had any issues with it.
DillsMommy replied:
Dylan has this one. The back comes off and now he uses just the bottom part. We have about four of them. One for each of our cars and one for each set of grandparents.
luvmykids replied: The twins have the same one Mandy posted
Kentuckychick replied: Connor uses the same one Mandy posted as well (just different color) -- we payed all of $20 for it on sale. We just transitioned him into it a couple weeks ago from the Chase booster which is almost exactly like the one McKaylee was riding in to begin with.
I personally don't like the carseats that turn into boosters so that's why we switched over to a real booster.
Prariemom -- Caydence is in the Alpha Omega (still facing backwards at 2... yeah she'll be in that thing for a while!) but I wouldn't use that seat as a booster simply for the fact that it is way too heavy in my opinion to just be strapped in with a seatbelt as the booster.
jem0622 replied: We have two types. The girls need the 5 pt harness. They will be 4 in a couple weeks and are still only just over 30 lbs.

PrairieMom replied: really? I was feeling like Ben was safer in that one as opposed to just a low back booster, or one of those that the back comes apart because it has the tall back on it, and the sides that wrap around a bit to protect his head from flopping and his sides in even of a side impact. is it really that much heavier than the other types? I don't have experience with them
lisar replied: Raygen is still in a 5point harness and Lexi isnt in one. That girl is to tall now for one. But the one I have for Raygen goes down to like the one dills mommy posted and then down to just a booster seat.
Kentuckychick replied: They get a lot of negative reviews from the carseat pro world for their weigh -- among other things.
The best seats that they actually recommend are the ones that harness up to 65lbs -- so that you can essentially keep your child in the 5-pt until they can go into a regular seatbelt or the low back booster. One example is the Graco Nautilus
There are several boosters that have the side impact protection --
The Graco Turbobooster (with back)
The Recaro Vivo Lite
Anymore, most boosters are coming equipped with the harnesses to 65 lbs. There are several types and several brands -- Britax, Cosco, Safety First, and Graco that all sell them now.
mom21kid2dogs replied: O had a Britax Bodyguard when she needed one. We drive a small car with no side curtain airbags so side impact protection, even at the booster level, was a must have for us.
