What kind of camera do you have?

3xsthefun wrote: I'm currently shopping for a new digital camera. I was just wondering what everyone else had?

Does anyone have a Canon? If so how do you like it?

Right now I'm looking at the Canon Powershot A560? Anyone have this camera?

Here is the camera, does it look like a good camera? Canon Powershot

I don't think we are going get it from Wal Mart. Since Dh knows a guy who has a computer shop that has these cameras in stock.

The camera I had was a Sony Cyber Shot. It was ok of a camera but not sure if I really want go with another Sony.

Besides I always said I wanted a Canon if I ever got another camera. But I wanted some other opinions before I bought one.

danahas4monkeys replied: I have the Canon Powershot Pro 1 and I love it! I've never had any problems out of it!

Anthony275 replied: get canons, if it breaks they'll repair it for free and i have 3

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: I have the Sony Cyber Shot and think it's okay. We love Sony though. It's what all our tv's and computer screens are. smile.gif I have heard really good things about Canon.

Maddie&EthansMom replied: I had a powershot before I got my canon slr. It's a great camera. I only buy canon, though. smile.gif

mom21kid2dogs replied:
Umm . . . that's not my experience. Here they only repair for free under warranty. My mom has had a number of them and she paid for repairs on several occasions. She buys from a camera store, not dept store, and they honor the manufacturers warranty.

Our Lil' Family replied: I have the Canon 570IS, I got my mom the 560. I like the buttons better on the 570 but for picture quality they are the same really.

3xsthefun replied: Thanks everyone for your help. I think I'm going go ahead and get the Canon. thumb.gif

lovemy2 replied: I just got a Kodak Easyshare Z812S - I love it so far - I am a Kodak kid though so tend to lean toward Kodak - and Holley (Holley79) recommended the Z712 - but we ended up with the Z812 thumb.gif thumb.gif

luvmykids replied: I have had two Fuji's and really loved them, I'm hoping to get a new camera in the next week or two and am trying to decide between another Fuji and an Olympus.

3xsthefun replied: We had a Kodak Easyshare about 3 years ago it was pretty good camera. But I don't think I want to get another one.

Monica- our first digital camera was a Olympus and it was a great camera. I loved it but unfortunely we lost it in our house fire. I actually thought about getting another Olympus also. But I'm leaning more toward the Canon.

CantWait replied:
PERFECT.

That's the camera I just bought, and I have a question that I can't seem to find anywhere.

Is there no B&W or Sepia function on it, or a way of editing using the software provided to edit it? I'm really missing this.

A&A'smommy replied: I personally love canon, I have a canon rebel xt right now and planning on upgrading here in the next 6months or so

Canon is awesome and I can't really imagine anyone being unhappy with them since that is what they specialize in

3xsthefun replied:
Good to hear! thumb.gif

I didn't think anyone was going say anything bad about Canon cameras. But then again you never know.

BAC'sMom replied:
Which one do you have Marie?

Brias3 replied: I just got a new one, the Olympus Stylus 770SW. It's waterproof up to 33 feet, crushproof to 220lbs., freezeproof to -20F, and shockproof from 5 ft. Basically, if I ruin this camera, I'm an idiot laugh.gif

I literally just got it a week ago, so haven't really even tried it yet, but did graze through the manual and play around with it a bit and it seems to have exceptional picture quality and features. I have always had Canons but decided to try this one because I found a great deal on it, and was really leaning towards getting a waterproof digital specifically for our upcoming cruise and for the fact that we spend so much time out on the lake and in the pool in summertime.

mom21kid2dogs replied:
My mom & my sister both have Olympus now because of this. My mom takes her camera EVERYWHERE including the boat & the beach so she really needed to go in that direction. From a point and shoot perspective, then picture quality between that and her old Canon look darm similar. I think across the board with digital (for us non professionals) you can actually look for ease of use and buy feature specific. The playing field is pretty level now between the name brands in point & shoot world from what I've read and from what I see IRL.

I'm like Monica, though. Love, love, love my Fuji. When we replace, it will likely be another Fuji.

3xsthefun replied: I really like the Olympus cameras too. But I think Rob is going to go ahead and get the Canon. I think that one reason might be his friend that has the computer shop has some. Besides I've only heard good things about them. So I think we willl go with the Canon this time. And the camera we are looking at right now is in our budget.

MommyToAshley replied: I have the Canon XTi (it's a DSLR) and a Sony Cybershot (the 10 megapixel one). I wouldn't give up my Canon for the world, but it sounds like you aren't in the market for a SLR.

This little 10-megapixel Sony Cybershot camera is a great point & shoot camera. In fact, it was rated #1 for the past few years in it's class. It takes a great picture, it's light and compact, and I like the LCD touch screen menu (no looking around for the right buttons). It has the Carl Zeiss lens, which is one of the best lenses you can get on a point & shoot and is major factor why you get the high picture quality. (Sony is the only point & shoot cameras that use the Carl Zeiss lens) And, it has a huge LCD for such a small camera, I get some really great pictures with it! I use it often when I go places that I don't want to take the Cannon (parks, amusements parks, etc).

Here's the Sony we have:

CantWait replied:
It's the DSC H3.

3xsthefun replied: Dee Dee- that Sony looks like a nice camera. But really we don't want to pay more then $200 for a digital camera.

Ugh, I've done looked at all kinds of cameras and just can't make up my mind.

I did like our Sony when it was brand new and it was a great camera up until now. I noticed the pictures are not as clear as they use to be.

I also really loved our Olympus when we had one.

Why does this have to be so hard?

Also, something I was just wondering about the red eye correction. Do they all have that little red light? Not sure if I'm explaining that right? That is one thing that I didn't care for on my camera. Ryan almost always closes his eyes because of it. I know strange but some reason it bothers him.

I might post some links to some other cameras I was looking at and get some opinions. I'm just really stuck.

3xsthefun replied: Marie is this your camera? DSC H3

I thought I saw under the specifications it said it had the B&W or Sepia function.

MommyToAshley replied:
You could go with another Sony Cybershot, just with less megapixels. You really don't need 10 megapixels unless you are going to be blowing the pictures up to 10X14 or larger. I think you can do 8X10's with the 5 megapixel camera. I guess I am partial to the Sony Cybershots because we've always had a great experience with them.

We had the 5 megapixel Sony Cybershot one before we purchased this last one, and we got great pics with it too. If I were the one buying the camera, I'd get the Sony with a Carl Zeiss lens before I'd get another camera with more megapixels. ANd, I think you can get the 5 megapixel one for under $200 now.
Here's some pics we took with the 5 megapixel Sony Cybershot:

MommyToAshley replied: Another with the Sony (5 megapixel)

MommyToAshley replied: I forgot to mention... did you check the Sony website to see if there is a recall on your camera model? We bought the 10 megapixel one because our 5 megapixel one went out... we knew it wasn't under warranty because it was 5 years old. But, it turns out that there was a recall and they ended up fixing it for us for free (shipping and all).

Here's a link to the recall list: http://www.dcresource.com/news/newsitem.php?id=3175

Even if your camera model isn't listed, go to the sony link and put in your model nubmer. Ours wasn't listed either but came up when I went to the Sony site and put our model # in.

Anthony275 replied: does anybody use those "Extreme III" memory cards?
they're supposed to enhance your pictures or something...but they're kinda slow and double the price of a regular one. and i see no difference

3xsthefun replied: Dee Dee- those are really great pictures!

Umm..my camera is not fixable. I dropped it by accident yesterday and it will not take pictures or anything. It also has a big crack on it and the lcd screen is all messed up.

We already decided we are going to buy a new camera. Thanks for suggesting checking the Sony website though. smile.gif

Ok what about this one?
Sony Cybershot

Mommy2BAK replied: We have a Sony Cybershot, its a pretty good camera with a nice size viewing screen thumb.gif Ours is a couple of years old now though.

3xsthefun replied: Only thing though I wonder if I can use my old memory card if I got another Sony Cybershot?

CantWait replied:
Yup, that's it, but I can't find how to do it dry.gif

stella6979 replied: I love Canons! I have the Powershot A510 so it's a little older, but let me tell you....I've dropped this thing on numerous occasions and it still works perfectly. I do hate the delay though, so my next camera will be a SLR.

3xsthefun replied: Thanks so much for everyone's help. smile.gif I've decided to go ahead and get the Canon.

Now I have to wait and see if Rob can find one at Kmart. If not we will order one through the guy that has the computer store in town.

3xsthefun replied:
Oh, sorry sleep.gif I hope someone else can help you out.

Anthony275 replied:
what kind of memory card do you have? a memory stick or one of those tiny sandisk?

3xsthefun replied: It is a memory stick Magic Gate.

I think since I'm going get the Canon. I'm just going give my daughter the memory stick for her camera. Since she also has a Sony Cybershot that my husband gave her. We had it for a spare when our camera messed up the first time and ended up not needing it. So I'm sure she will love being able to take even more pictures. laugh.gif

Anthony275 replied: all new canons take those small sandisk cards wink.gif

holley79 replied: Kodak Z712

I got this for Christmas and I LOVE IT!

3xsthefun replied:
Yeah well I figured that the memory stick would NOT work in a Canon.

I was actually asking if the memory stick would work if I bought a new Sony Cybershot? But since I'm not getting another Sony I will just give it to Kaitlynn for her camera. tongue.gif

Ugh..I can't type today.

3xsthefun replied:
That looks like a really nice camera!

holley79 replied:
It has a lot of settings so I'm still learning but it was ready and easy to use right out of the box. I love it and the video mode is great to. thumb.gif If you want I can PM you some pictures I have taken with it.

MommyToAshley replied:
That looks like a great camera too! ENJOY! And, I'm lookign forward to seeing some pics!

Calimama replied: I have a Canon Powershot S2 IS.. I love Canon!

3xsthefun replied:
Holley- thankyou so much for the offer. But we went ahead and ordered the Canon A560. I'm afraid get to fancy of a camera because of the kids. Maybe one of these days I can get one of those really nice cameras.

But you are still welcome to PM some pictures. I always love to see new pictures! biggrin.gif

3xsthefun replied:
Dee Dee, I will post new pictures soon as I can. I'm not sure when we be getting the camera since we had to order it. I'm hoping it will be here by Friday. But it might not be until the first of next week. sleep.gif

I'm really, really hoping it won't take until next week!
