What kind of music do your kids listen to?
Nina J wrote: I know alot of people with kids Emily's age, and Emily is one of the few that listens to music not made for kids. She listens to some songs that are specifically made for young kids, but she prefers to listen to the music DH or I do. Everytime we are in the car she makes sure I have the Distillers on, and she asks me to put it on when we're at home. Right now, they're her favorite band.
She also likes Motion City Soundtrack, Fall Out Boy and Taking Back Sunday, but she can't get enough of the Distillers
What kind of music do your kids listen to?
My3LilMonkeys replied: Usually whatever we listen to.
Brooke has a preference for the oldies currently - she loves Peggie Sue by Buddy Holly. When she was a baby and wouldn't stop crying Tim McGraw always quieted her down.
Madison doesn't really care yet.
my2monkeyboys replied: This will probably cause a great stirring, but Will listens to everything from country to pop, new rock to heavy metal. He LOVES Velvet Revolver, Drive-By Truckers, Blind Guardian, Avenged Sevenfold and White Stripes. I censor what song he can listen to bc some have a little language in them I don't want him to hear, but otherwise he loves them. He even sings quite a few of their songs.... pretty funny to see a small 3 1/2 yr-old rocking out to Fall to Pieces. But go ahead now, flame away for me letting him listen to it... I expect it.
gr33n3y3z replied: I will get flamed also lol bc I never put a restriction on what the kids listen to. ( to a certain extent ) Katie Fav. band is Linkin Park and she likes SlipKnot also as also for me But we like Rock to metal
msoulz replied: My son loves Radio Disney. I couldn't tell you who the artists are on there though. But he recognizes many of them from the Nickelodeon shows he watches.
BAC'sMom replied: My kids listen to all kinds of music, mostly country.
C&K*s Mommie replied: Our kids listen to whatever. My music tastes change from day to day so sometimes I like adult contemporary, mostly mainstream, on occassion the rock station, Christian music (esp on Sundays) and Chris will flip it over to old southern gospel on Sundays too. They listen to whatever, as long as it does not contain profanity in it.
ahhh, man! Too bad, we are in the same boat that I could not do it. Do you think that little of us, that we would flame you for that?
MyBlueEyedBabies replied: We realized we should start sencoring some songs when Katy started singing Hinder's Get Stoned to the TSA guy at the Airport...It was really funny, but we did decide that Buckcherry maybe shouldn't be played around her. They both listen to Counrty, Rock, Metal...whatever we are. If we are in the car and listening to something particularly innappropriate we just give them their headphones and let them watch a movie. (though that is usually more whan I am listening to books on tape)
luvbug00 replied: add me to the flame list. Mya listens to whatever she wants and we censor nothing. She likes everything from musicals to Barry manalow. fall out boy to panic at the disco. Eminem to lil jon and the east side boys. She has no real Favorite but whatever she is litsening to at the moment
Crystalina replied: Izabella loves everything. The Pussycat Dolls, Shakira anything country and she just got out of her My Hump phase (thank God! ). It just doesn't sound right for the words to My Hump come streaming out of my 5 yr olds mouth. Evan sang it also but he has a SpongeBob cd that I can't wait until he "loses".
redchief replied: John and Erin prefer the more pop oriented dance music artists.
TheOaf66 replied: when Tanner is in his room he likes Veggie Tales, Elmopalooza, and Greg and Steve. When he rides in our cars, I put on 80's Rock which he likes or No Doubt, DW usually listens to "The Fish" which is christian music.
Cece00 replied: My kids listen to whatever I listen to. My 4 yr old loves the song "Hate Me" by Blue October, currently.
3xsthefun replied: The girls listen to whatever we listen to. They like just about every kind of music. Kaitlynn's favorite singer is Kelly Clarkson.
holley79 replied: Annika loves the Blue Collar on Sirius.
Honestly, Annika love children's songs. I'm sure that will change when she is old enough to tell me what she really wants to listen to.
Boo&BugsMom replied: I will get flamed too then, because Tanner listens to all of the above. The only things I wont let him listen to are ones with swearing in them. Otherwise, I look at it this way: just because they are children doesn't mean they only need to be subjected to children's music. I instill a love of music appreciation in my child (and future child), and I love to foster the music side in him. He's only 4, and he can actually sing...in key and in tune, there is no way I'm not going to foster that in him. We listen to everything from pop, cont. Christian, metal, alternative, you name it. He practically has most of No Doubt's songs memorized!!! There is nothing wrong with instilling music appreciation in your child with all genres and forms of music!
Oh, and whoever mentioned Shakira...the Obsession Tango was the first song he danced to as a baby!!!
mom21kid2dogs replied: We listen to Christian Contemporary and she loves it, too. Zoey Girl, POint of Grace, Caedomon's Call and Jars of Clay are some of her faves. She also loves most movie soundtrack and LOVES, LOVES, LOVES Broadway Kids CD's. Her aunt has turned her on to country (neither of us listen to it) and she really likes that, too. She just loves music in general and we just shower her with as much of it as we can.
Bee_Kay replied: Ashley and Tyler are 13 and 15, so they pretty much listen to whatever they want. I did put my foot down when I walked into the computer room and Ashley was listening to Yahoo music.... and I heard some of the lyrics "lick my @$$"
I was shocked ....... then again, when I was younger I listened to 2 Live Crew (to this day my parents don't know that)
Brias3 replied: My kids are the same way. Mason loves kids music still (especially the Laurie Berkner Band) but his new favorite is the Curious George soundtrack. My older two tend to favor the music DH and I do. I'll let Ryan listen to my iPod around the house or in the car and have put his Kids Bop albums on there and stuff but find him mostly listening to my other music. He LOVES Coldplay and the Crash soundtrack.
Boo&BugsMom replied: LOVE LOVE LOVE Jars of Clay!!! They are one of my favs! I saw them in concert and it was simply the best.
ions_momma replied: I should be flamed to then. We dont really restrict Ion from any kind of music. DH and I both listen to rap, r&b, hip-hop and pop, so Ion does too. His favorites are Eminem, 50 Cent, and 3 6 Mafia!
Nina J replied: I don't think I have any right to tell you he shouldn't listen to that, since Emily's favorite song at the moment contains these lyrics "I want to draw the blood from your neck, spill the lies in your bed. I will give you a holy white rose, cut the tongue from your head." (bad mother alert)
Thank god they scream so much the only words she can understand is "tell me something, tell me stupid, will I die on a rope" and she still doesn't understand what it means
my2monkeyboys replied: Oh, I'm so glad to see y'all are normal!!! I figured the whole heavy metal thing would tick someone off
Boo&BugsMom replied: I can't judge...we listen to Metallica in our house.
gr33n3y3z replied: yep same here and nice and loud
