What next? - Barbie

She was dressed in club clothes (a skirt so small, it probably wouldn't even cover my thumbnail) and she drove a shiny silver convertible. She also had a ROCK on her finger, real person size and she said "how do you like my bling?" I imagine she also has a cell phone, but all I noticed were shiny sunglasses and way too much makeup!
I had the pink convertible for my Barbie, so maybe it's no different, but I really don't understand why we're teaching our young girls that material things ("bling") is everything in life. Why does she need a rock on her finger??
I also just flipped by MTV and saw a preview for a reality show called "My Sweet Sixteen". There were several young women saying "daddy will buy me anything I want for my sweet sixteen" and either pouting or smirking about what they did or didn't get. Another one said "I'm rich and I don't care to hide it from anyone". I watched it once and a father had spent over $50K on his daughter's party. How insane!
Maddie&EthansMom replied: Ha! I saw that same commercial earlier. ITA with you. That AND the sweet sixteen show (along with daddy's little girl) are ALL ridiculous. I agree that it sends the wrong message.
mckayleesmom replied: I hate My Sweet 16...Those girls are ignorant brats.
ions_momma replied: I agree! They are soooo freakin spoiled it isnt even funny!! Imagine thier 18th and 21st birthday parties!!
CosmetologyMommy replied: I have seen my super sweet sixteen and there is one that I will never forget. It featured sophie, a girl who had a moulin rouge type party. OMG, she was yelling at her mom, who was trying to buy her a a VERY EXPENSIVE dress. Wait til she gets into the real world.
~~*Missi*~~ replied: thats crazy. I see little girls walking down the street and look at sabrina like I will kill you if you wear that lol.... Have you seen knocked up barbie that one kills me!!! (i dont know the real name)
ohhh MTV 16 i watched it once 50K yeah on the BMW car they got the kid! Its crazy no matter how rich i was or get i don't think i would do that for my kid. especially for the kids they feature they all seem like ungrateful little brats ya know. i want do this do that its like MANNERS spend 50k for a MANNER CLASS
Bee_Kay replied: Those type shows on MTV make me ill.
holley79 replied: Well there is another doll Annika will not own. I also can't stand those Brantz dolls. What hoochies. IMHO.
Brias3 replied: Wow....Barbie seems to be getting worse and worse. Some great society we are living in!
I cannot STAND that Super Sweet Sixteen show! It's sort of like a train wreck though, you can't help but look. I saw one, maybe two episodes and I was so blown away by this little you know what's- I couldn't believe my eyes and ears!
luvmykids replied: Those Bratz dolls send my blood pressure through the roof, just looking at them. Kylie asked for one and I told her I work too hard raising them NOT to be brats that I will for darn sure not buy her doll that is!
And those Sweet 16 shows are sickening What a waste, if you have that kind of money you could build a school or give a community clean drinking water or rebuild a neighborhood hit by Katrina.
Brias3 replied: Sheesh, I just saw a commercial for the Bratz dolls and even those young girls in the advertisement are dressed and dancing all seductively....what the heck?!? I'm appalled.
1lilpeanut2love replied: ITA
1lilpeanut2love replied: OMG that girl was definitely so annoying. She really got on my nerves. She was such a spoiled rotten brat. So disrespectful to her mom and on top of that annoying!! Her mom needed to put her foot down!!!

C&K*s Mommie replied: I admit it I have watched My Sweet 16 , as Bria mentioned before, it is like a train wreck you cannot help but to rubber neck at. I would never even remotely consider raising our girls to be crude and ugly as they are-- even if we were swimming in money. I think we all know people who are weathly, some may choose to flaunt and have extravagence, but some that I know are the most down to earth people. I enjoy their presence as much as I do other people like us, who are not nearly weathly at all.
As for the bling, bling Barbie & Bratz dolls..... HUH! Over my cold, laying in the ground six feet under body will our girls ever own one of those. They had mini-Bratz dolls, my MIL gave them, I purposely took the itty bitty clothes out of the pkg. Purposefully, so they could be "lost", and eventually tossed. I recently found both dolls and tossed them too. I did not want to tell her to her face, since it was a gift, but I have mentioned it to Chris and he agrees they will never own a way too much makeup & too small of clothes Bratz doll. Now they will never own a bling, bling Barbie either.
