What size mattress do you sleep on?
Maddie&EthansMom wrote: Scotty and I sleep on a full. We just bought a new mattress one year ago and I tried to talk him into a larger mattress at the time, but he didn't want to get rid of our bedroom furniture (antique, passed down from generations) So, we bought an expensive mattress (pillow top, etc) and now he wants to get a larger bed.
We are thinking about giving Maddie our furniture since it holds so much meaning and since we just bought that mattress. (and this means new furniture for me ) The mattress on her bed is a great mattress, but we can give that and her trundle to Ethan once he moves into his big boy bed. I think this works out nicely.
Anyway, I go back and forth on whether or not to get a Queen or King. What do you have and are you happy with it? I know I can't live with a full much longer. Scotty is a big man. (6'3"...200+ lbs)
3xsthefun replied: We have a full, I like the bed but not the mattress, it is pretty worn out.
We do want to get a queen size bed sometime later on, Rob's feet hang over the mattress now. So really the bed is to small for him.
MyBrownEyedBoy replied: We have a queen and both fit just fine. But Aaron is only 5'9" and I am only 5'4".
amymom replied: A queen is not much bigger than a full size. I recommend a King. We have a King. When I was pg with son (15 yrs ago) we bought a queen since I wanted bigger to fit us . I was disappointed that we saved on $$ but didn't get much more room. Go King and consider temperpedic if you can. We have a temperpedic toper, but two siblings have temper-pedic mattess and they swear by them.
Maddie&EthansMom replied: See, I dont' think a queen is much bigger, either. I really love for our kids to sleep with us sometimes, but it is such a pain with our small bed. And yes, Maddie still squeezes in between us just about every night. It is SO cramped. However, my mother says a king is too big..that's what they have always had. She said she and dad are too far apart. I told her that I can guarantee Scotty wont' let me get too far from him.
I'll try to talk him into a temperpedic. Thanks!
mommymonster replied: We are planning on getting a king. I have had a king in the past and it is Great! I love to have the extrs space for those occassions that I just feel like stretching out, and I don't have to disturb my sweetie while he is sleeping. He loves that idea also, I am a bed and cover hog , plus it is good when the little ones sneak in to snuggle. Every one is compfy. I like his out look when it comes to buying new items....."go big, or go home!"
kayla's mama replied: We have a queen, wishin' for a King.
eta: Sometimes we feel like we are sleeping on each other. I don't like anyone touching me when I'm trying to go to sleep and it always seems like he is on my side of the bed. With a king we won't have that problem
Celestrina replied: We have a queen and that works out perfectly. Steve is tall as well (6'2") and I am average (5'5"). Consider the size of your room and how much space you will be losing with a king.
C&K*s Mommie replied: A king size would do us fine, but it would take up most of our bedroom, if we kept all the furniture we still have in there. We sleep on a queen, though.
kimberley replied: i have a queen and wish i bought a king. queen really isn't that much better than a full. if you have the room.. get a king.
luvmykids replied: We have a king, got the first one as a hand me down and never looked back! In our old house I wasn't super happy b/c it did take up the whole room, but now it's all good.
CantWait replied: Ron is a big boy - 6'0" or so, and just over 200 lbs. We sleep on a queen, and it's nowhere near big enough...he takes up so much room that half the time I'm on the connor of the bed.
TeagansMom609 replied: We have a king size and it doesn't seem big enough!!
ediep replied: depends on how big your room is... wehave a queen and its fine. I am 5 feet and DH is about 5'7", so we aren't really big
gr33n3y3z replied: We have a Queen but I wish it was much bigger but no matter how big the bed is they always find their way over to you so then you have no room again lol
Jamison'smama replied: I love my king---we bought it when Jama was born. I love having both kids in bed with me and DH on a lazy Saturday morning. The kids will get bigger and we will all still be able to cuddle in comfort. If you're going bigger--go all the way!
MamaJAM replied: We bought a king for our 5th wedding anniversary -- before that we had a full....WOW - what an awesome change. The hard part is that when we bought the king-sized mattress - we had a much larger bedroom....but now that we're in a much smaller bedroom in the house the bed and dressers take up most of the floor-space (but it's worth it...I'll never go back!).
KingMom replied: We had a full for years but when I was PG with Colin, I demanded a bigger bed. We also didn't really want to move to a larger one since we had antique furniture. We sent the antique to Keith's dad so it was still close to home When I went to look at matresses, the queen just didn't seem much bigger than the full that I had. We went for the king, and will never go back!
Hillbilly Housewife replied: We have a queen - which is only 6 inches bigger than a full, by the way... we would have liked a king - but our room couldn't accomodate a king at the time. NOW, however, I'd LOVE a king sized bed.
Well, I guess I sorta do... most nights dh sleeps on the couch cuz of his snoring waking up the baby anyways...
MyBlueEyedBabies replied: We used to have a California King which is great for tall people(few inches longer than standard). NOw we have a regular king and that is pleanty long enough for us (standard bed legnth) and the difference from the 2 width wise might only be a couple inches but it seems huge when you are trying to get comfy in bed. We also got the sleep number bed because i wanted a soft mattress and dh wanted a firm mattress....we are completely flip flopped now and it kills me to sleep on his side with the softer mattress
Kaitlin'smom replied: We have a queen and its fine for us, however next time I get new funiture I will go for a King as long as the room will hold it comfortably, then I could move our funiture into a guest room and give kait the full bed.
coasterqueen replied: We have a queen and Kylie has a full bed. I can tell the difference but there isn't that much difference in size. I'd LOVE a king and DH says I can get one at any time but it means my bedroom furniture won't match and this is the first time I've had something that matched.
BAC'sMom replied: We have a King
TANNER'S MOM replied: I have a king and I love it. We can lay anyway we want too. We still snuggle before bed..and then we roll to where we want for comfort. All the kids can fit one way or another. If someone wants to snuggle we can..it doesn't take one of us ending up in the floor.
I do discourage Tanner from sleeping with us b/c he likes to go right for the middle and then use his body or ours to form the figure H..and it kills me. I have been kicked in the head so much it makes me mad.
But I love the room!@
Maddie&EthansMom replied: Mel that is what we do. We snuggle and then go our separate ways...which in this case we have to turn our backs to each other b/c there is no where else to go. Scotty is a snuggler and he hates that. But, I can't have anyone touching me while I'm sleeping...I'm so hot natured.
More than likely we will get a king. Thanks for your opinions.
mom21kid2dogs replied: Just a FWIW about giving vintage furniture to kids~it's a great plan as long as you don't mind the possibility of it being pretty beat up by the time they are done with it. My sister and I both used the same furniture my mom had. It was a beautiful set but we were kids and we used it as such. I put strickers all over the mirror, she got nail polish and remover on the top. We both set pop can on it without a coaster. By the time we were done with it, the dresser and the amoire we in serious need of refinishing. Some of the filliagree was knocked off the mirror as well. My sister still has the set for her bedroom furniture but had to pay so serious $$ to bring it all back. My friend mentioned she wanted to put an antique Chinese writing desk in her daughter's room and I related this story and she totally changed her plan because this never occured to her.
We all snuggle in a full but none our us are too big except for our dearly departed Bailey!
Maddie&EthansMom replied: Scotty and I were discussing this last night and you actually described perfectly the vanity table that matches the furniture that needs to be refinished. HIS sister used this furniture when she was little. There are rings from drinks, marker in the drawers, stickers on the mirror, etc. AND the filigree is also knocked off. We did have two pieces refinished (the bed and the chest of drawers) We still need to have the vanity table refinished.
I also had my mother's furniture from when she was younger and it was in our guest bedroom until Ethan was born. Mom wants us to use that in Maddie's room...it's white and ours is mahogany. But, what will we do with our furniture? There's no one to give it to in his family and no where to store it and he really wants to keep it. I think we will just take our chances. So far Maddie hasn't drawn or stuck anything to her furniture. I guess I will have to keep an eye on her and have a nice talk with her about it.
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: We just upgraded to a very firm king about a year ago and love it! Well I do...DH thinks it's too hard, so we bought him a feather top, but he still complains! You don't snuggle as much in a king, sometimes it feels like DH isn't even in the bed, but our old queen was getting so worn out. It was time for us! DH is about Scotty's size, but a bit heavier, yet shorter.
MyLuvBugs replied: We have a california queen. It's about 4-5 inches longer than a normal queen, but is the same width as a normal queen. Finding sheets that fit is a pain in the butt though. Not many companies even make this size bed anymore, but it was the only size that would fit in our bed frame.
aspenblue1 replied: We have a king and I love it.
MamaJAM replied: Actually - I was afraid we wouldn't cuddle as much once we got our king....we had a full-sized bed before...but we actually seem to cuddle more. Mostly because we know we don't have to 'fight' for space in the bed....so there's more love to go around.
My2Beauties replied: We have a full as well and I hate it. I had a queen before I met Brian (it got ruined by my cats at the time, long story) but even that wasn't much bigger. We went looking around one time just at prices, and the sales man said the only difference between a full and a queen is 6 inches total across and nothing on length of the bed, so if feet hanging off is a problem, then a queen won't help. He said the difference between a full and a king is like 17 inches or something across and so many inches length so that feet wont' hang off. Whenever we go to a hotel we always get a king bed and OMG the difference is wonderfuil, we are wild sleepers and I loooooooooove to strech out, so when we buy a house this year and buy new furniture I'm going with a king!
ETA: you know it may be even more than that (the difference in king and full) honestly that may have been the difference between king and queen. I bet you could google it and find out!
Maddie&EthansMom replied: Maddie's room is SO small. I dont' know if a full size bed would fit in her room. How important is space in a kids' room? I measured and it really doesn't leave much room at all. And the way the closets are spaced, etc..I'm not sure if it will work.
coasterqueen replied: Well, Dh and I believe the bedroom is to sleep, that's it. So Kylie doesn't have a lot of room in her room after a full size bed, computer desk, lingerie chest and bookshelf. All her toys are in the playroom. When she gets older she can use it for storage of teenage stuff I guess, lol. We did buy her a desk for in there (matches her set) so she can do homework in there when she gets older, but when she's younger and doing homework she can do it at the kitchen table.
So for us space isn't a big factor in the bedrooms. We try to use this rule so our girls won't be holed up in the room for hours on end as teenagers and never socialize with us. That's what I did as a teenager.
Maddie&EthansMom replied: That's what I told my mom. The kids have a playroom so I'm not worried about toys fitting in her room. She will have a bed, chest and vanity table/chair and that will probably be it.
jcc64 replied: We have a king, which nicely accomodates our entire family of 5. We do most of our family tv watching in my bedroom during the winter, as it's much warmer than the rest of the house. We have a ridiculously large bedroom- helps fill it up.
