What to do when you don't remember someone's name.
MommyToAshley wrote: The neighbor across the street introduced herself when she first moved in. She has a daughter that is about a year older than Ashley. The little girl is usually at daycare until late evening, so Ashley only sees her a few times a month at the park. I talk to the Mom when we run into her, but I can't remember her name! Since we have been talking for so long, I would be embarrassed to ask her what her name is. I kept hoping that one of these days that her husband would pop his head out of the house and call her by her name, but that hasn't happened yet. And, of course her daughter calls her Mommy. Maybe I should sneak a peek in her mailbox while she is at work, but then I would probably pick up mail delivered to the wrong address.
Help! What would you do?
kimberley replied: ask another neighbor lol. that is what i do because i have permanent mommy brain and remember nothing! does DH ever talk to her husband? get him to ask
MommyToAshley replied: Asking a neighbor might be good.
I don't think my DH and her DH have ever talked. My DH has talked to her on a few occasions when we went to the park or for a walk together, but I don't think he has ever talked to her DH.
FroggyJK replied: That is an awkward situation!
Does she know your name? If she doesn't call you by your name she might be in the same situation.
I am really bad with names. I usually just apologize, make some joke about being spacey and ask their name again. I eventually get it!
Sorry I don't have anything else that might help, but I do like the asking another neighbor idea!
paradisemommy replied: i always just admit up front..."i'm TERRIBLE with names! what is your name? then try and do an association type thing where you won't forget!!!"
kit_kats_mom replied: Checking the mailbox isn't a bad idea
I stink at remembering names too. I'd probably just ask too.
amynicole21 replied: If you go to your county website you can access the property records in your neighborhood. Her name is probably on the mortgage!
gr33n3y3z replied: during the conversation I just say I'm sorry what is your name again. Now my Hubby he will talk and talk and not remember the name or ask then I will say who were you talking to he will say I dont know I had them in school lol
coasterqueen replied: LOL. My first thought before I read your entire post was to say go sneak a peek into the mailbox. I'm pretty bad with names too so I just ask them too apologizing for being such a space, lol.
ctymom replied: I went through the same thing! I usually tell people right off the back that I'm horrible at remembering names for some reason and it will take me hearing it a few times for it to sink in. But I didnt warn the neighbors of my 'defect' LOL and forgot! Well, my DH suggest we exchange phone numbers and she wrote both their names along with their number Now I know!

MommyToAshley replied: Ohhhhhh! That is such a good idea!
Normally I would just ask, but it has been so long since we first started talking that I just wouldn't feel right.
jdkjd replied: I could never remember our old neighbor's names, so I looked their address up on our county's Property Appraiser's site. Very helpful.
Boys r us replied: I was going to suggest the samething Amy did..If you go to your county website and do a tax search on the property address, it will probably have both of their names listed! Other than that, I would just admit..I'm so bad with names..
MommyToAshley replied: Good idea too!
I knew I could count on you all!
TANNER'S MOM replied: I WOULD CROSS REFERENCE THE ADDRESS ON A PEOPLE SEARCH ENGINE AND FIND OUT WHO LIVES IN THE HOUSE! CALL 1411 TELL THEM U HAVE THE ADDRESS NEED THE NAME THEY WILL GIVE IT TO YOU!! I AM MINI DETECTIVE!
Kaitlin'smom replied: whats the house number I can look it up for you, i have access to that or I can send you the link to the website
mrshires replied: I talked to this guy in college for two years and couldn't remember his name. Came to find out, he didn't know mine either. Sad thing, his name was MIKE!! What a dumb thing to forget!
I would either ask, or see if you can get a situation where she introduces you to her dh. She'd say his name, and I'm sure he would say her name at some point... If you know the last name you can do the phone book. Or their phone number, you can find their name by a google search on phone number, so I don't see why not on address too. DH looks up tax records all the time, and that has the owner's name on it, so that also works if they own their home. Gotta love/hate the internet....

ediep replied: I have been in that situation many many times. I am soooooo forgetful!! I have met people several times and I still forget their names. I usually have DH come up and introduce himself..."Hi , I'm scott" and shake hands, then the other person will introduce him/herself and shake. Usually works
~Roo'sMama~ replied: Lol I would look it up on whitepages.com - do the "reverse address" option at the top of the page. I'm just a little embarrassed to admit that I've actually had to do this.
Josie83 replied: I am so bad with both names and faces, i never remember anyone's name or recognise until I've met thema good few times. I f I were you I'd just be honest and say "I'm so sorry, but I've forgotten your nam" - it happens to everyone! i wouldn't be offended! xx
redchief replied: You guys are BAD!!! You can't look in someone else's mailbox!!!!
ROFLMAO!
gr33n3y3z has already told you how bad I am with names. If I need to know it I'll apologize and ask again. I let everyone know up front that I'll probably not remember the name.
I tell all of my students in fire academy. If I remember you it usually means you really got under my skin. If I don't remember you then you did okay!
ctymom replied: I found this on the front page of msn.com and thought I'd bump this back up.
Hope this helps, Pamela
