What was I thinking?????

mom21kid2dogs wrote: Stephen & Olivia are off to Washington DC with Children's Chorus (she called me from the Hard Rock Cafe when she was having lunch, the little stinker! rolleyes.gif ) so I stopped by the video store to rent a couple movies for the evening one of which was Marley & Me. What was I thinking???? bawling.gif bawling.gif bawling.gif I read the book and could barely handle that!

On the upside~I also swung through the drive through and got some Michelob Ultra with Pomegranete and Raspberries. It's suprisingly good . . .for beer! thumb.gif

mckayleesmom replied: Oh crud..I just rented that movie and I haven't read the book.

Calimama replied: Yeah that movie made me bawling.gif bawling.gif bawling.gif . I'm such a sap since I've had Miabella though. Even sweet commercials make me cry. dry.gif

boyohboyohboy replied: does the book go by the same title?

A&A'smommy replied: I haven't watched it yet but now I don't know if I can.... I wanted to watch it with lissa do you think she would be able to handle it?

I SOOOO wish we had drive through beer places around her emlaugh.gif

mom21kid2dogs replied:
Olivia is 8 but I don't think I'll let her see it. It has lots of sexually suggestive moments (fine for adults and older teen kids~the couple is married, after all wink.gif ) but not appropriate for her. There is a stabbing in the neighborhood but it was very watered down when compared with how it was described in the book. Also, a very sad scene dealing with miscarriage takes it out of the realm for pre teens in our house. I'm certain O couldn't handle the ending, either. I'm very glad I watched it before she watched it. I loved the movie, though and will definately buy it. It was wonderfully done~almost as good as the book.

The book is called Marley & Me: Life & Love with the World's Worst Dog by John Grogan. The "real" Marley is way worse than the movie Marley portrays him to be.
If you've ever loved a dog~bad boy or not~I highly recommend the book. It was so well written. He also has a collection of his op ed columns called Bad Dogs Have More Fun. It deals with dogs, kids, and other very interesting pieces he wrotewhen working as a columnist in FL. Also a good read. thumb.gif

Calimama replied:
I wouldn't watch it with her!

MoonMama replied: I know what you mean that movie/book totally had me bawling.gif bawling.gif like crazy.

CantWait replied: I can't wait to get the movie, I don't imagine I'll fair any better than you. bawling.gif

luvmykids replied: I would in no way, shape or form recommend a kid watching the movie. I (stupidly) assumed from the cute previews that it was PG which, because of the things Cheryl mentioned, it is not. Also, the end was devastatingly heartbreaking and in hind sight we should have turned it off but the kids were pretty caught up in the story so we let them finish it....Colt (and I) sobbed for a good hour or two after the movie ended and for days after, all three kids would look at Bogie and get teary.

As an adult, it's a great movie although I probably won't watch it again since I couldn't seem to bring myself back to a normal state of emotion for quite some time after I saw it laugh.gif

A&A'smommy replied: oh goodness thanks I'm glad I read this before I let her watch it i SOO thought it would be good for kids.. I guess i'm going to start being more watchful about things they made it look pretty cheesy in the previews.

MommyToAshley replied: I am glad I read this, I thought it was a movie intended for kids too based on the previews. But, I hadn't read or checked into the movie yet. I will have to watch it after Ashley goes to bed some night.

Glad to hear you are enjoying your "me" time. Mmmm, Michelobe Ultra sounds good, but not sure about the Pomegranete and Raspberries part. laugh.gif

luvmykids replied:
I'm usually really uptight about checking that kind of thing.... but the previews were so cute that even when I bought the movie, I didn't look. I just threw it in the cart, tore of the wrapper, put it in the dvd player blush.gif

mom21kid2dogs replied:
My eyes were still swollen from crying on Saturday AM wacko.gif . I left it for the puppysitter to watch while I was gone last night and she said she bawled her eyes out, too! bawling.gif

FWIW, I thought it looked fine for kids from the previews, too. After Stephen saw it in the theatre he said he thought O would like it. He's usually more uptight than I am about this stuff so I'm really not sure what he was thinking there. So not a kid movie despite the PG rating.

redchief replied:
No man would ever mistake that for beer. tongue.gif rolling_smile.gif

I was under the impression that movie was cute too. Of course, our kids are all older so that's not an issue.

mom21kid2dogs replied:
rolling_smile.gif It's definately a girl beer, Ed! rolling_smile.gif

coasterqueen replied:
laugh.gif Sounds good, Cheryl. I love pomegranate wine coolers, so I bet I'd love that beer. thumb.gif

Crystalina replied: OMG, is it sad???
If it's sad I'm so not renting it. Izabella had the shock of dh hitting a squirrel and then coming home and finding one of our cats in the road. Then BIL called and said their dog of 13 yrs died and he wanted to bury her on our farm. She wants me to get that movie this weekend but if there's death I may wait a bit longer. wacko.gif

mom21kid2dogs replied:
It's not a sad movie, per se, but it's realistic at the end. Family gets puppy, family grows up with puppy & doggie antics, family has children, employment shifts, housing shifts, etc., doggie grows older and slower, doggie suffers a life threatening illness, family makes those hard end of doggie life decisions~that's pretty much it in a nutshell.

I can't say how others would react~I cried for several hours afterward not because of the movie, necessarily, but because watching it helps me relive all the grief of my own personal doggie losses. Kind like taking the scab off the cut. I really wouldn't recommend it for someone whose lost an animal recently or whom might be unprepared for how they might react to the ending. I wasn't suprised by my reaction which was why I chose to rent the movie on a weekend I was alone rather than become hysterical in the theatre. tongue.gif

mom21kid2dogs replied:
It was yummy Karen! thumb.gif They have several different flavors (like 4, I think) to choose from. I might try the lime next. I'm not a big drinker so I don't peruse the alcohol asile alot, but I think it's fairly new. I've never seen it in our area before.

Kaitlin'smom replied: wow I would have also thought it was a family/kids type movie. Kaitlin has not expressed intrest yet but I thought about it. Well not now. I took her to see hannah montaina over the weekend she liked that and is beggin to see 17 again but I dought that will be a good movie for her either, I told her I have to watch it first she is okay with that, so while I do want to see it I will have to put it off so I can keep that excuse. LOL

mom21kid2dogs replied:
17 again is a PG13 movie. Olivia wanted to see it because she loves Zac Efron but it has alot of adult themes and she won't be seeing it. She's already delt with it and moved on! rolleyes.gif

Kaitlin'smom replied:
yeah, i thought if I go see it I can see if there might be a few places of it she could see if i were to buy the DVD so she can see Zach she loves him. LOL but I know most of it will not be able to see. Ah I think I will just get her a poster o something then she can look at him when ever she wants rolling_smile.gif
