What's a good age - re:ears pierced

Chiflata2003 wrote: My dd had her ears pierced when she was a baby, but I had to take them out when she was getting tubes put in her ears when she was 15 months old. It took all my energy to hold her down to get them off that I didnt want to try to put them back in, so I decided to wait. She is going to be 3 in July. Should I do them then, or wait until she's older? She had just gotten over stranger anxiety around 10 months ago, so that's why I'm scared to have someone "hurt" her kwim?

Nina J replied: I've decided to wait until Emily asks to have her's done, so that I know she wants them done.

~~*Missi*~~ replied: i had sabrina's done at 8weeks. so that she was little enough not to touch them etc.... so i am no help

also why did they make you take them out?

kayla's mama replied: I would wait til she's asks for them!!!!

1lilpeanut2love replied: We got Kaylee's done at 3 months. I had mine done too when I was very young. I must say I love pierced ears on a girl-- I have 3 holes pierced on both sides and one cartlidge pierced. I say go ahead and get them repierced. I am all for it.

MyBrownEyedBoy replied: I don't have a daughter, but I believe you should wait until your child asks for their ears to be pierced. I asked when I was 7, 2 days after my sister asked, she was 5.

redchief replied: That was one of both of our daughters' 10th birthday presents.

CAMSMOM1 replied: I got my ears pierced when I was 10. It was special, having to wait for them. And I was the one who decided to do that to myself. And when I was 16, my Mom let me get a 2nd hole in both ears. It's kinda a right of passage, for a little girl when they hit a certain age. But that's JMHO.

EvesMom replied: I got mine done when I was 8 for my birthday. A friend of mine got her daughters done at 3 months. I'm gonna wait till Evelynn askes for them.

Hillbilly Housewife replied: It's her body, not mine. Why should I make holes in it just so that I will think she's cuter with earrings? If my kids want earrings, they can have them... but they will have to be old enough to take care of them on their own.

Don't get me wrong - I have 4 holes in one ear, 5 in the other and several tatoos, I've had my nose, lebret tongue and belly button pierced - it's not that i'm against piercings, because I'm really not...

My mom really wants me to get the girls' ears pierced. She bugs me all the time, she tries to make me feel bad. She even threatened to have them pierced while in her care... and my reply was that if she got their ears pierced, she'd better enjoy it - because it would be te last time she would ever have unsupervised viits with my kids.

Hence, still no earrings. tongue.gif

MamaJAM replied: We have the rule that our DDs can get their ears pierced when they are old enough to take care of them...and only if they want it done (obviously).
We started offering it to DD#1 when she was 8. I took DD#2 to get it done last summer when she was 8.5 -- but she got scared and changed her mind. DD#3 was along that day and begged to get hers done - for some reason - I gave in (she was 6)....I wish I hadn't - it's been me having to take care of her ears...I should have waited until she was 8.

~~*Missi*~~ replied:
I agree with you on the whole thier body thing but it is a unpermanent situation. they can easily choose to take them out and let them close. That is what i did. i hate earrings in my ears and never wear them if i do i am like a old lady and get clip ons tongue.gif

i don't think its always about a cute thing. I really weighed Sabrina getting them on, she is little at 8weeks she didn't know how to grab her ears and tug on the posts, I could clean them and I know more of what an infection looks like then she would (at a younger age), plus she was having her vaccines done so I knew the doc would be looking at them three or more times over the year....
Plus I knew the piercing place does both ears at once for kids under 1-2yrs old....

This is the LAME reason why I rationalized doing it LOL - if one more person would have said to me ahhhhhh HE IS CUTE when Sabrina was in all pink i would have screamed and slapped them. Trust me not the best of reasons but it was one of them and now i don't get any doubt on boy or girl.

Hillbilly Housewife replied: I know... but still. tongue.gif

CosmetologyMommy replied: I was not even a year old when I got mine done.

PrairieMom replied: I got mine done in 2dn grade, and I am going to make baby girl wait that long too.

Kaitlin'smom replied: I am also waiting till Kait is older. its her body. She has asked a couple times but thats only cause her friend Gabby has them, she is not ready to care for them herself, so we will wait.

mckayleesmom replied: Mckaylee showed interest right before she turned 2...Her cousin had "pretties". So I took her.. She kept them in and loved them for about 6 months, but one week they started itching..so she kept taking them out and losing the earings. I finally took them out and decided to wait till she is about 3 or 4. Within the last couple weeks she keeps asking me about her "eewings".

luvbug00 replied: Mya had them pierced twice and we wil do it again before the wedding. I don't see a big deal about it.

3xsthefun replied: My girls can have their ears pierced when they ask to have them done.

5littleladies replied: Madeline had hers done when she was 6. She asked for them and was able to take care of them herself. I told Megan that she could get hers done when she turned 6 also, but so far she hasn't wanted to do it. I had to wait until I was 11 and I never understood why-I figure if they can take care of them themselves, then why not? happy.gif

jem0622 replied: Everyone is going to have differences of opinion on this one. I want to take my girls soon. They are ID and it would help to know who is who (not just for us, but school too).

I got mine pierced when I was 3 and remember it vividly. My older sister waited until she was 13.

GL!

Crystalina replied: My mom had mine done when I was 3 days old. I'm glad she did because I love my earrings but hate needles so I never would have done it if I knew better. rolling_smile.gif I did Izabellas when she was a week old just incase she would be like me and be scared of needles. She loves her earrings and is such a girly girl. I don't think she would regret me doing it.

3_call_me_mama replied: Kathleens' were done just shy of 3 months. We've never had any issues or problems with them, They healed fine and she never bothered them > Also I dind;t mind cleaning them (Actually it wa sonly the first couple days that I used the stuff and after that they just were fine with rinsing water over in a bath. We don't change them often but she has s few pairs of earrings. (including a pair of diamonds that MIL got her for her 1st christmas ~ expensive diamonds.. I dont' even have a pair of diamonds. !!!) She loves tehm adn calls tehm her pretties, adn touches tehm gently when she looks in teh mirror. LOL) She big into bracelets adn necklaces too though.. so maybe she's just gonna be teh jewelry girl!

coasterqueen replied:
That's my point of view too. Kylie will get earrings when SHE is ready to get them done. thumb.gif

My parents did the same for me.

holley79 replied: My mom and I were talking about this the other day. I'm just going to wait till Annika can tell me that she wants her ears pierced. But that's just me. smile.gif
