When Did Your Kids..... - Questions

lovemy2 wrote: OK, this is not a complaint by any means - more an I can't remember....

When did your kids really get on a schedule/routine....Dylan is sleeping great at nite, takes good naps, etc. but there is no rhyme or reason to his day still - it is different everyday - what time he eats, when he sleeps, etc. I mean he eats about every three to four hours, is eating food, etc. so there is a pattern but it changes everyday - he was sleeping until like 8 or 9 am (that was beautiful rolleyes.gif ) now he is up at like 6:30 - 7:00 which is fine but then it changes his whole day again!!! So I guess my question is when did your kids get more consistent in their day?????

Nina J replied: I'd say 5-6 months. But we're just getting the the stage of again having no proper scedule with Odessa. Since she is eating real food, we've kind of stopped having a specific time to eat every day, if you KWIM. She used to eat lunch at the same time every day, but now it varies but is usually inbetween a short time frame. I found as Emily got older, our scedule changed alot. There is no set lunch time for Emily anymore, anytime between 12 and 3. So our days of having a set scedule that we kept to were short lived, I just assume it was like that with every child? In our house, bedtime varies. More so for Emily than Odessa. I've never been good at following a scedule, it just doesn't seem to work for our family..

hoosier momma replied: Like Dylan, John Robert was eating every three hours from the time we brought him home. He starting sleeping through the night at about 4-6 weeks. He would go down for the night, any time between 7-8 and get up for a bottle at 3:30 like clock work and then sleep until about 7. He has always been in bed by 8:30 at the very latest but usually before 8. He kept this routine until he started on a consistent three meals a day at about 6 months. That is when a "schedule" started. Now it is up at 6 (when I leave for work) through the week, breakfast at 7:00, short nap about 9, lunch at 11:30, long nap about 1, dinner between 5:30 and 6:30, bath around 7:30 or 8 and bedtime. We pretty much stick to this routine except he usually sleeps until about 7 or 7:30 on the weekends when I don't have to wake him up to go to the sitter.

Edited to add that these times are not set in stone and they do vary by a few minutes each day.

lisar replied: Raygen was on a good schedule when she was about 2 months old. Sleeping and eating wise.

Bamamom replied: Tripp got on a schedule right around 3 months. I found the key to scheduling is to have a set wakeup time. Otherwise the whole day is screwy. He usually wakes around 6:30 but knows he has to stay in his crib till 7. If he is still asleep at 7 (yeah right - that's happened like twice!) then we wake him up.

lovemy2 replied:
That is kinda what I thought - unfortunately everyday is different as far as where he is when I work - mostly he is home but there is alway at least 1 day a week I have to take him somewhere....

Calimama replied: About 6 months for Bella.

Boo&BugsMom replied: I think every kid is different. Tanner was on a schedule for some things earlier (sleeping), and other things later (eating). Tanner was on a schedule for just about everything by about 5 months, more or less when he was eating solids at every meal and I gave him his breakfast, lunch, and dinner at the same time every day. It helped round out his days. Aiden, being only one week, has been pretty eating every 3 hours but not always the same times. It's amazing how they are both very different. I think a schedule doesn't ness. mean the same time every day though with everything. As long as things are pretty consistant and you can plan out some things regularly, that's pretty much a schedule. No matter what there will always be some days that are different. smile.gif

MommytoTommy replied: yeah, tommys been on a basic schedule from almost day 1 (interupted by his hospital stay but back on track soon after). he eats every 4 hours. breakfast around 10 (he usually sleeps till 8 or 9) lunch and a bottle around 3 or 4. dinner around 7ish and a bottle before bed around 10 or 11. i know its probably not a good idea to keep him up so late, but i work late so at least that way i dont have to get up at 6am after getting home at midnite! it works for us. and hes slept thru the nite since birth, with the exception of when he drops his pacifier maybe once a nite now.

Boo&BugsMom replied:
Don't you love that?!? wacko.gif Tanner was like that too.

lovemy2 replied:
That is pretty much what I was thinking - once he gets on three meals a day that should kind of anchor his schedule/routine - I know obviously there are some things that vary day to day but right now other than his bedtime at about 7:30 pm, everything else varies sometimes by 1 - 2 hours....goofy - but he is a very good baby so all in all it isn't a big deal but it makes it hard to plan things!!!!

Jennie those boys are adorable - Love the hair on that new little guy!!! Tanner looks like he is loving being a big brother too!!!! How is baby doing???

Boo&BugsMom replied:
Very well. Doesn't seem to be colicky like his older brother was...knock on wood...so hopefully it will remain that way. smile.gif

holley79 replied: emlaugh.gif I don't think Annika is consistent at all still and she's 16 months. She leveled out about 6 months old then when she hit her next growth spurt she changed up on me.

Miranda1127 replied: hahaha, a schedule. dd is close, with k coming up in sept i figure i should be a little more on top of this kind of thing
