When did you buy your child crayons??

Maddy'sMommy wrote: I was just wondering... b/c my dd loves to take my pencil from me while I'm studying and try to write on things. I have let try and draw at resturants... but she always eventually tries to eat them! Thanks... I am just curious. smile.gif

Maddy'sMom replied: I just saw that you are Maddy's Mommy, and I am Maddy's Mom! laugh.gif

Madison has LOVED LOVED LOVED crayons for a few months now. I can't remember the exact time, but she's 21 months now, and has been coloring for a few months or more. She loves to take them out to the store, with a notepad, it totally keeps her occupied in the cart, at a restaurant, etc.

At home, she colors at the table, on her booster seat. The crayon comes off the table with a quick wipe of furniture polish.

BAC'sMom replied: I let all my children color/draw when they were little. Probably at about 1 ½ to 2 years they had their own colors and coloring books. It really depends if the child knows not to eat them. wink.gif

AlexsPajamaMama replied: I think Alex was 1-1.5 when we started letting him color. He did try to eat them for a while but he is 2 now and doesnt do that anymore, instead he throws them across the room!!

luvmykids replied: I bought them around 1 but they weren't truly interested and using them correctly until about 2.

MamaJAM replied: My kids all started playing with crayons around their first b-days. If they started trying to eat them - I'd just take them away for a while....then try again.

I am not sure 'when' probably pretty early on around the age of one. They never put things in their mouth much. Kellie did a little, but not enough to have me worried often. But it has been a while, I know, since we bought them for the first time.

ilovemybaby replied: Abbys had hers since about 7 months but didn't actually start using them until 10-12 months. She loves her crayons. wub.gif

ilovemybaby replied: Abby has eaten some crayon before. Our crayons are non-toxic. Crayola are non-toxic. It won't hurt them to eat them. Just makes for some pretty diapers HAHA

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: We probably introduced them a bit too early IMO. Maybe at around 14 months or so. Wil still likes to gnaw on them and tear off all the paper. He does use them now to scribble in his coloring books, but this just happened recently at 20 months. They still always go in the mouth! Non-toxic or not, I just don't like it. So I watch him closely...

My3LilMonkeys replied: Brooke started around 1 - 1 1/2. Madison doesn't get them yet because she eats them.

Sorshia replied: The first time that I gave my son crayons was when he was alittle over 1 1/2 years old. He was first given them for Occupational Theripy, but I noticed how he liked them and I decided to buy him some.

Lexismama replied: Lexi got her first set just before she turned one. Only recently has she taken a HUGE interest in coloring tho, I would say since about 15 months.

A&A'smommy replied: alyssa had crayons when she was a little over a year I think its good for them to start as soon as they are ready!!

Maddy'sMommy replied: Thanks.... I think I will buy my dd crayons and let her play with them a little. She is 14 months and she is interested in them. Thanks for the tips. bigtup.gif

Oh... I don't know how to qoute... but I wanted to say hi to my screen name's sake Maddy's mom! laugh.gif

MamaJAM - did you used to belong to the Storknet Message Boards? I used to post on that board a couple of years ago but stopped. I think I remember seeing your posts on there! I would always read yours, they were very informative!!! I'm very new to this board, in fact, this is my 1st post!! laugh.gif

sunrosejenn replied: I bought crayons awhile back. Eliana first used them at 14 ½ months and she knew what to do with them. This is probably from watching m write. She also loves to finger paint and play with playdoh. She has been doing all these since 14 ½ months (now 18 months).
