When did you get rid of baby clothes?

coasterqueen wrote: Okay, this is along the lines of my getting rid of pg clothes post tongue.gif . Megan has already grown out of the 5 pound preemie clothes that she got from people (although it's only a couple of outfits) and as time goes by she will obviously outgrow more outfits.

When did you get rid of your children's clothes? I mean as of right now Dh and I only agreed to have 2 children so he thinks I should get rid of them when she outgrows them. Although I'm hoping one day several years from now that he'll be ready for another one. blush.gif

Did anyone go through this sorta thing? dunno.gif We have room to store the clothes, but I'd have to listen to my DH gripe about it all the time. tongue.gif But I wouldn't say we have enough room to store ALL the baby clothes Kylie has had so far and all the ones Megan has gotten PLUS all the toddler clothes I am saving of Kylie's.

Any advice? blush.gif Should I just go take them to a consignment shop or keep them?

mammag replied: I am going to (haven't gotten around to it yet blush.gif ) sell the nice ones that are in good condition on ebay and take the others to a consignment shop. The only ones I'm keeping are the special ones (like his first outfit).

Since you are hoping he'll change his mind I would say just keep some of the nicest outfits and take the rest to the shop.

Lollie replied: Hi Karen... wavey.gif

Well, I still have all of my babies stuff. The clothing that Bri outgrew,Caitlyn is wearing them now...even though I cant resisit buying her lots of new outfits!!!

I think once theyve outgrown their clothing,I wont easily be able to give them away! rolleyes.gif My little brother is 4 yrs old and my mum still has most of his clothing..Im the one who just couldnt bear to part with the cute little outfits! tongue.gif

ammommy replied: Well, with Alec, I held on to them just in case. Once Megan was born, I started cleaning house as soon as I could. So if it's in season, take it to the consignment shop now. Otherwise, hold on until the stores start carrying that season's clothes. (make sense?)
That will give you a good excuse to shop if #3 comes along thumb.gif

iluvmysweetiepies replied: I still have some of the really nice clothes from the Ariana and Sofia that I'm using for the twins and I don't plan on giving any away yet because of possibly having one more baby. With Ashlyn we gave away a lot of it to friends who needed them. Oh, we also gave away some BOY clothes we ended up not needing. laugh.gif

Boys r us replied: I get rid of my kids clothes as soon as they out grown them. If/when I have another..I'll buy new ones..that's half the fun!!!!

ediep replied: I put Jasons clothes in plastic storage bins and labeled them with the size and season and put them in the attic. I figure if I don't have another boy one day, then I'll pass them on to my sister if she has a boy someday. The last resort would be sell them in a garage sale

3_call_me_mama replied: well, once we found out that Kathleen was a girl we got rid of most of cameron's things. (My brother's gf was expecting a boy adn they are BROKE!) So i passed on most things to them, but kept the ones i couldn't part with. (which was 2 totes full!!) Then after Kathleen was born, i gave the rest of cameron's to a friend that was having boy, adn she gave me all her daughter's thing. The only things i kept were gender neutral things like jeans or overalls, turtlenecks, and socks. ANd his christening outfit and the outfi the wore for pictures/wore home. THat is framed in a shadowbox that hangs on teh wall in our room. Kathleen's preemie and 0-3 stuff has been packed (mostly) to be stored until i can accept that she is our last bawling.gif But anythign that is left here as of September will be sold on ebay or consignment cause she'll be one and I'll hopefull yhave dealt with it by then. ALso we didn't want to hang on them too long cause styles change and i remember someone giving me hand me down clothes from theie kids (who are now like 5 0r 6 even older) and the clothes were in great shape but VERY out of stlye... may sound silly but you could deffinately tell the clothes were old. SO if i don't get rid of them while they are stillinstyle then they won't be much use to anyone.

Kirstenmumof3 replied: I hung onto bins and bins of Emily and Spencer's baby clothes for years. After Claudia was born I got rid of all of the boy clothes and as Claudia outgrows her clothes I either sell them at Yard Sales or I donate them to the Salvation Army. We are not having anymore children, so I'm not keeping anything. I've kept about a box of baby clothes for each of them, there special outfits, first pair of shoes, the outfits we brought them home from the hospital in. Stuff like that, but everything else is gone.

MyBlueEyedBabies replied: I box up all the clothes by size when the kids outgrow them. My sister just came and went thru all of them (both K & M's). Now I am ready to get rid of everything else. If I wasn't givin gthem to someone I would probably take them to the consignment shop when they outgrew the entire size(say take all the 0-3's at the same time).

Daisyx3 replied: Well I kept my clothes and then when a relative needed them (since I new i could get them back when I had another) I would give them to them..

Now with Kyleighs clothes when she is done I get rid of them to my friend who has a little girl..

I would say keep the ones you REALLY like and then get rid of the rest if you want or wait until someone is really in need of them. ITs always great to give clothes away when someone really needs them.

mummy2girls replied: I give jennas clothes to skylar. they are so close in size now so if they dont fit sky then ill give them to my brothers baby...

Jordan i gave 1 year aftyer i lost him. it took me 1 year to even part with them even though he never wore them. I did though keep the 5 outfits that he did manage to wear!

coasterqueen replied: Thanks everyone for your advice. I like ALL her clothes so it would be very tough picking out a few to save. tongue.gif I did save their going home outfits for sure.

Saving their first pair of shoes? I don't think I did that for Kylie. bawling.gif bawling.gif

3_call_me_mama replied:
We had their's bronzed.... my mom has mine from when I was a baby so i wanted their's too smile.gif

amymom replied: Oh I gave away my sons about two months before I found out I was pregnant with my daughter. rolling_smile.gif We figured that we were only going to be blessed with one child. emlaugh.gif
I am a pack rat as it is .... But all her baby clothes are now gone too!

moped replied: I hav ebags and bags, but I can't bring myself to do anything with them - I lvoe them band they are all cool clothes but he is way too big and I am not sure if there will be another so I was thinking of selling on ebay

0-10andbackagain replied: I always knew I would have more kids so i still have all of my kids baby clothes. blush.gif

Kaitlin'smom replied: I need to do this also, since my sister is having a boy I dont have the need to keep all of them I will kepp myvery favorites and special one btu the rest its time to part with I can store them all,a nd since I am re-doing her room I need to get rid of some.

I will either give the away take them to shops or garage sale them sad.gif

JAYMESMOM replied: This is an interesting dilema. We aren't sure if we will have any more but I just can't get rid of them yet. I have them boxed in my empty diaper boxes so I know where they are. I figure if I have the space I will keep them. Eventually I will end up doing a MOM 2 MOM sale and get rid of it but for now they stay!!! cool.gif

PascosGirl replied: I don't save them. I just don't like clutter. I have a huge house, but I don't have room for them. Figure that one out. lol
