Where do your children's names come from?
My3LilMonkeys wrote: My daughters' first names are both just names that DH and I like. Their middle names (Catherine and Sara) come from the female characters on CSI, DH's favorite TV show.
I think this is kind of weird. Although it could be worse - our pets' names come from Batman movies!
Does anyone else have children whose names come from weird sources?
toady_buckshot_noodle replied: Well, our oldest Victoria Christine came from dh's mom and my mom, we call her Tori.
Our boy is Tristan Noah. Tristan came from both Brad Pitt's character in "Legends of the Fall" and one of the Knights of King Author's round table. and Noah was a favorite of mine and still is.
Our little boy we lost was Jonah Maximus, Jonah was another favorite biblical name and dh picked Maximus, I guess he is obsessed with gladiators.
Our littlest angel is AnaBeth Mariah. AnaBeth is of course a como of Anna and Elizabeth, I wanted to be different and make sure she is not simply called Anna. Mariah was the name of my great- grandmother on my mom's side.
Kinda boring I know, but it's our story.
holley79 replied: Annika is a name that my husband chose a LONG time ago. Doesn't have anything to do with Star Wars or the Lady PGA. LOL. I wanted something that would go with my grandmother's name Ann but didn't want it to just be Ann.
Lily is my DH's great grandmother.
So that is where it all comes from. LOL
six_kids_at_28 replied: All my kids names are just easy, classic, and just good old pretty names. Star is the only "origanal" one lol and it was when I was preggy with her and we knew it was a girl, we were laying under the stars hubby and I and he said what is more pretty than a star....so we looked at each other and decided on the name for her
luvbug00 replied: Mya daniella marie was a last min. name she was supposed to be a boy!
Hillbilly Housewife replied: Our criterias were
1) names that had to be easily pronouncable in both english and french.... my full name is almost always massacred by people that don`t speak french....drives me NUTS. It`s usually how I know they`re telemarketers... lol
2) names that were not in use by family members. (parents, grandparents, aunt, uncles, siblings, cousins.... but kids of cousins is where we drew the line - they`ll probably never meet them anyways... lol)
So, Zacharie and Emilie were our top 2 names for boy and girl. Had Emilie been a boy, she would have been called either Jeremie or Sebastien.
We had a heck of a time with Naomie`s name....our other choices were names we didn`t LOVE.
Our Lil' Family replied: We knew we wanted a biblical name since both of ours are and Thomas was the only one we could agree on. My first choice was Nathan....but he really doesn't look like a Nathan so it worked out!
sunshine girls replied: Elle Maddison, we just liked that name. Same with Gwen Ashtynn, except we didn't want her middle name spelt Ashton or else it'd be to boyish. Navi Gusta Elke, Navi was a name we liked, I can't remember now how I found it. Gusta Elke are family names.
Pretty boring really. I'm pretty un original with the name choices
ions_momma replied: Ion was named after a friend of ours that passed away a few weeks before he was born. He was a close friend of ours, that died in a motorcycle accident. We had originally picked out the name Caiden, but then decided that we wanted to name him after our friend. His middle name is Matthew, which is DH's name.
zdk753 replied: My husband has 2 other sons that the mom's refuse to let him see. So when I found out I was pregnant I told him he could name it. He went through the whole baby name book b/f he decided on Zachary. Wayne is my husbands middle name. The 2nd one I always like the name Dylan & James is my dad's middle name. With the 3rd one my husband wanted to name her Kelcie Renee. My aunt was killed in a mobile home fire. I wanted to name my daughter after her in some way. Her name was Lynn so I decided to name my daughter Kailynn. My middle name is Christine & of course I wanted my daughter to have my middle name. I decided though to change the spelling. Her middle name is spelled Khrystine. There was an actress on Head of the Class who's name was Khrystyne Haje. I always loved the way she spelled it. I just changed one "y".
MyLuvBugs replied: I searched a website for girl names, and found the old german name Lorelei. It was the only name that my husband and I could agree on. Her middle name (Elaine) is a family name on my side. I told the huz, if the kids are going to have his last name, then the middle names are going to be from my side of the fam.
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: Wil's is pretty boring...Richard is my DH's name and he's the sixth in the family. So Wil is the 7th. William was my grandfather's name and I always wanted a boy named Wil, but wanted to continue Richard in the family. There it is!
b&bsmom replied: I have always liked the name Brittany so I had told dh it was not up for discussion he could pick the middle name, however he picked Amber which was nice but her intials would be BAD so a month before she came we decided (more me than him) on Sue after my grandmother. If she had been a boy ( which leads me to our second) he wanted Bryce Jordan after the basketball stadium at Penn State. I agreed with Bryce but I didn't want to do Jordan so he picked James after himself. If Bryce had been a girl dh had picked Jillian ( I think we picked Amber for the middle name again) after one of the girls he enjoyed coaching in softball. (We did not go with a B theme on purpose) That is our story!
punkeemunkee'smom replied: Taylor is a name that Dh loved and picked out years ago and he wanted her to have my name as her middle name.So Taylor Abigaile was named. Taylor loves to hear how daddy named her-he tells her he needed a name for the most beautiful princess! Pretty sweet!
huggybugboy replied: DH & I are both musicians and so we were looking for a "musical" name. We found Miles and thought of Miles Davis but really liked the meaning more than anything: merciful (also soldier). Benjamin is DHs first name, Grandpa's first name, Grandpa Greats first name, etc. His whole name means "merciful son of my right hand." DH got a tattoo on the inside of his right wrist that says merciful son.
MyBrownEyedBoy replied: Logan Read. Logan after Aaron's grandpa (his middle) Read after my grandpa (middle). And our furkids are all named after foods. Gravy, Oatmeal and Peanut Butter. We used to have Biscuit, too.
~Roo'sMama~ replied: Ok now I'm curious Rocky... what is your full name??
Andrew is just a name we liked - we had already picked out a different name but decided a few days before he was born that we liked Andrew better. And James is 1) Dh's dad's middle name, and 2) Dh's favorite book of the Bible.
mom2tripp replied: Salvatore Luciano III
DH and I picked this because it's an Italian Tradition, Sal's father is the first, my DH is the second and now we have a third. I however, did not really want to call for sal and three heads turn around so we call him Tripp for short
amymom replied: Well, I always like the name William. And being a good Irishman William Patrick is my sons name. If he had been a girl we had tossed around LeeAnne (our names together), Patricia Anne, Patricia Lynn, and a few others. I had a dear friend whose name was William Patrick and he died the month before Billy was conceived. He was terminally ill and knew we wanted children and told me when he got to wherever he was going he would make sure he sent me a child. In my teens and early 20's, he used to always check out my boyfriends before I could date them, and he was famous for telling people "Be Good, if you can't be good than be careful, if you can't be careful than name it after me" So I did
By the time our DD had come along, our lives had changed, my mother was deceased. We named her Mary after my mother. Also, I didn't realize but when my son went to Kindergarten, he was looking for his name on the board. It was written William and he was looking for Billy. So I wanted my next child not to confront that so I made her name short and to the point. Her middle name is Elizabeth (my sisters name) and she became Mary Beth before she was a week old, so so much for the name being the same as the legal name. We call her Mary Beth.
James Robert is a boys name I liked always.
danahas4monkeys replied: Kimberly NiKole my exhusband liked Kimberly and I liked Nichole but had 2 friends named that but spelled different and didnt want any one feeling bad so I spelled it NiKole so same name but different spelling.
Jordan MacKenzie was picked out of a hat, seriously, I couldnt decide and my parents tried to help but I didnt like anything they picked out my mom was suggesting things like Johosephat (she was kidding) and Jedediah , my dad things like William Robert so we could call him Billy Bob ! so finally I took all the names I did like put them in a hat and had my dad draw, the poor kid was 4 days old before I named him lol!
The baby we lost was going to be Emily, no middle name.
Alexis Brooke, we got Alexis watching a game show and Brooke we just liked.
Andrew Richard was supposed to be Andrew James so we could call him AJ but I just kept thinking somehow we should include DH's name as this was his first and probably last biological son, so we dropped James and he became Andrew Richard! Had he been a girl he would have been Alyvia Kathryn.
