White spots on nails
CantWait wrote: Robbie's nails have a lot of white spots/lines in his nails, I heard it's due to calcium deficency, however he gets his required 4 servings of calcium per day. Any other ideas on what causes this?
luvmykids replied: That's the only thing I've heard of causing that. Sorry I'm no help!
A&A'smommy replied: It's probably from banging his fingers mine get like that all the time and I get my calcium too.
Nina J replied: My mother always told me it's where you bump your nail before it's grown past your skin, if you KWIM..you know how some of your nail is under your skin then it grows and will eventually be visible..I get them all the time.
Nina J replied: I just googled it and the calcium thing is a myth. Here's what a website said:
The spots you notice are not caused by a calcium deficiency. They're called "leukonychia" and are very common. Most of the time the white spots simply are a sign of some past injury to the matrix (base) of your nails. By the time the white spot shows up (about six weeks after the injury) you've probably forgotten all about banging or knocking your fingers. Sometimes, the injury can stem from a manicure that put excessive pressure on the base of the nails. The spots also can be a sign of an allergic reaction to nail polish or nail hardeners and, sometimes, are a symptom of a mild infection
A&A'smommy replied: i read the same thing on webmd
CantWait replied: Thanks. I also googled after posting ( I don't know why I don't think of it sooner ). I read that it could be due to excema (which Robbie has got pretty bad).
lisar replied: Lexi has them and that was the cause of hers.
skinkybaby replied: When I was little someone told me that every time yo told a fib you got one
CantWait replied: Ror some reason, I don't think that's it.
MyBlueEyedBabies replied: My dad had them and started taking Oil of Oregano and they started going away. His were an infection of some sort.
Boo&BugsMom replied: My mom told me that's where canker sores came from too.
Brias3 replied: I heard they come from nail biting- something to do with breaking away at the nail unevenly. NO idea if there is any truth to this.
