Who IS hosting Thanksgiving dinner? - (off of ashade75's poll)
amymom wrote: So who is hosting Thanksgiving Dinner this year? and deatils, how many, when etc.
mckayleesmom replied: Me...its just us....
amymom replied: Ok, On the 19th I am having 35 of my DH relatives over for dinner at 1:00. I am doing all the cooking, prep etc. I am doing all the tradional foods that his family does.
On the day after Thanksgiving my DH, my kids and I will travel to NJ to celebrate with my 5 siblings and their families (20 total). My brother and his wife are hosting it on Saturday.
I haven't decided what to do on Thanksgiving day, I may make a Turkey Pot Pie with the leftovers from the 19th or we may eat out.
mckayleesmom replied: How about eating out while the soup cooks.....at least for lunch...put the leftovers in the crock pot...
booey2 replied: We already had our thanksgiving up here and my sister hosted it as it was 3 functions in one. Thanksgiving for the whole family about 50 of us, an open house for my sister, she just moved in in August and a going away party for my cousin who went to Australia with her 5 kids and hubby while he is on sabbatical, he is a professor at a University up here and studies and teaches animal breeding. We also went out to my BIL for DH family so I didn't have to cook at all.
C&K*s Mommie replied: We are going to DH's GP's in GA for Thanksgiving/family portraits next weekend. Then his immediate family will be coming over here a few days later. I do not know what the heck we are going to do. HE is supposed to be taking care of the food details (yeah right)-- I think that I may go behind the scenes and place a few orders for some take out holiday dinners, now that I think of it.
ammommy replied: Thankfully, MIL is hosting Thanksgiving. We do Christmas. Dh's b-day is right around Thanksgiving, so they combo b-day with Thanksgiving.
3xsthefun replied: I will be this year. Not sure who all will be coming.
kimberley replied: well i think everyone is coming here for christmas dinner but they are bringing everything since i will either be very pg, in labor or just had a baby lol. i just said to Jamie yesterday.. watch, since i usually go late, this baby is going to decide to come out in the middle of christmas dinner lol
~KARA~ replied: We will be going to my aunts, where she will be doing all teh cooking for 14.
NO INLAWS THIS YEAR
holley79 replied: Well Friday, the night before the shower, all the family was in town so we had a mini Thanksgiving Dinner. Fried Turkey, mac and cheese, stuff like that. It was great and at my mom's house. They go to GA for Thanksgiving to be with my Grandpa since he lost his wife two years ago.
I will have Thanksgiving here. Usually two turkeys, mashed potatoes w/ gravy, corn casserole, homemade mac and cheese, homemade bread. Not sure how many will so this year. I always open our doors up to all the Law Enforcement/ FF/ EMTs that have to work on Thanksgiving and doesn't have time to get home for a hot meal. (This includes my lil sister.) Last year we had 45 LEs. The FF/ EMT usually have a little more time on their hands and are able to eat at their station, but they know if they can't the invitation is open. It's really a lot of fun.
amymom replied:
WOW Holley thanks for doing all that.
coasterqueen replied: My mother will be hosting it again this year. I had to do it last year, pg and on bedrest, only because my parents power was out because of a big snow storm we had the night before. Course I didn't have to do anything.
Sarah&Mackenzie replied: We are having Thankgiving at my Gram and Grandaddy's house, but my mom and aunts will do all the cooking. Then we will go to DH's mom and dad's house and they do all the cooking!
ediep replied: my mom and dad host Thanksgiving dinner. It will be mom, dad, me, DH, Jason, my sis and her family, my other sis and her dh, 3 aunts ,3 uncles, 9 or 10 cousins.....and this is a small crowd compared to years past. Some of my cousinsa re going to their inlaws this year
KingMom replied: We will be hosting and early dinner at 3 since my dh has to leave for work at 5. We are having turkey, dressing, homemade cranberry sauce, pumpkin and pecan pie, some veggie (my mom will make). We will have about 8 people, my family, my parents and brother, FIL and his girlfriend. I lucked out and no MIL or SIL this thanksgiving They will both be in Ireland, my SIL is living there for 1 year and MIL is going to see her for the week. I actually wish I had the funds to go over and travel.
redchief replied: We're hosting... Lord only knows who'll show up. I'm sure all of our local family will be here, two friends are already on the turkey list, but one of them is working, so I'm sure we'll wind up feeding his partner too.
holley79 replied: It is not a problem at all. I enjoy doing it every year. Have done so for the past 8 years. Have yet to run out of food. It just miraculously shows up. I will have to work the night before 6p till 6a. Will start cooking probably on Monday. Thursday morning will throw turkeys on. Then go lay down for a bit. The guys/ girls usually show up around 11 or so.
