Who does what in the yard?
coasterqueen wrote: Di got me thinking about yard work and I wondered who does the yard work in your household and if you share the chores which does each one do?
coasterqueen replied: I actually like doing the yard work, more than inside house work. So I mow every opportunity I get to, which is basically every week. Dh probably mows just a handful of times during the mowing season.
I also do all the bush whacking as I call it. I'm absolutely terrible at it, but I think Dh is worse so I won't let him touch them. That makes him happy.
I do the majority of the weeding/pruning/planting/deadheading in all the beds. Sometimes DH helps when I haven't gotten the chance to do it and it's gotten out of control.
Dh does all the weed-eating because I refuse to learn how to use the thing. I told him a girl has to rely on her man for somethings and that's gonna be one of mine.
Dh is a ton better at the watering part. I hate watering, but I do it. He just gets to it a lot more times than I do. Although, Kylie does her fair share of watering too.
Oh and I can't forget Megan, she likes to rip all the flowers off the plants, so that's her share of the yardwork.
kristy-n-chad replied: We are in an apartment now, but when we did rent a house, DH did all the yard work. I gues I am just not an outdoors person.
gr33n3y3z replied: my father inlaw wont let anyone mow his grass bc we dont do it right LOL We can water it and the garden but thats about all Now mind you it takes less then 4 min. to mow the lawn bc the yards are so small here
Kaitlin'smom replied: DH does most of the mowing, Kait hapes with what ever we will let her do, weeding, raking, watering....clean up. I do the shape up of the shrubbry, DH will help me with the weeding raking and clean up.
moped replied: The only thing I do other than sit outside on a hot day and play is I water all flowers....Tom does everything else, he says that I don't do it right -
If only grass grew in my house, my house would be spotless
MyBlueEyedBabies replied: Normally i do about half of the mowing (but took this summer off ) and I typically edge when dh is mowing. No flowers (because I have a black thumb) but when we do plant something that is all me. weeding is about 50% 50% and the kids will help with that too....they have actually gotten really good with the weeds so sometimes I make it their job to pull the weeds
booey2 replied: I usually mow the lawn, DH will start and then says, "Well don't you wanna do it, ya know for the exercise?" So I end up doing it. He will do most of the weeding, as I am usually chasing kids by this point, planting is my department, we share the bed prep. The boys like to help but they can be more of a hinderance so we only let them plant or dig the hole.
luvmykids replied:
We had a lawn company but they were too expensive so Friday was the last day. So from now on it's all me! Which should be interesting since we only have a push mower and I've never done any of it before!
3xsthefun replied: DH does all of the mowing & weed eating. I water all of the flowers, plants and pull the weeds out of the flower garden.
C&K*s Mommie replied: I have been asking Chris to do the weed eating/edging forever now, but the contraption is never charged.
We both take part in mowing the front yard. Last time he did it, the same neighborhood guy keeps coming around asking to do it, but Chris did not want to fork over the money so he did it himself.
As far as the backyard..... That is a sight for sore eyes! I need to get back there and just do it, but I hate to.
Since taking up the azaleas, and boxwoods a yr and half ago, we have not replanted anything that lived. I am not a gardener, but I want a garden. Go figure! So there is no garden to tend to.
Our Lil' Family replied: Since I'm not an outdoor kind of gal, and I have a black thumb...that's DH's department. When we built our house we agreed that I'd take care of the inside work and he'd do the outside and I really like it that way. He takes pride in his nice yard and I take pride in my nice clean house, works well for us.
BAC'sMom replied:
It's the same way @ my house.
TheOaf66 replied: well i do all the lawn mowing fertilizing etc. She does the planting of the plants and flowers (although I dig the holes ). Most of the lawn maintenance is my dept.
holley79 replied: Dh does majority of the yard work. I trim the bushes though because she just does it wrong.
3_call_me_mama replied: DH does ALL Of it. Except when MIL comes up to visit then she does the weeding and trimming and all that jazz. I try to help in teh spring.. i do the flower beds, but we never weed, i'm just too lazy He mows and trims and God above waters. (We have low maintenance gardens! LOL )
zdk753 replied: This is an easy ? for me to answer. Me.
Boo&BugsMom replied: Ah hem! I think not. I pull weeds constantly and plant grass seed all the time. You dig holes, but not all the time. You do the mowing and trimming and fertilizing. I pretty much do everything else, unless I need you to help.
Ok wait, you do the raking too! I'll give that to you too dear.
TheOaf66 replied: yeah that's right give credit where it is due
PrairieMom replied: I usually do it all. It's techincally DH's "job" but he works such long hours, that if I want it done, I have to do it myself.
Boys r us replied: No yardwork for me except my flowers.
coasterqueen replied: Wow, y'all must like doing housework, huh? I beg Dh to do inside work and I'll do the outside work anytime. 3.5 to 4 hours on the mower with my headset and no one to bother me...I'm in HEAVEN!
I use the rest of yardwork as a workout.
Brias3 replied: I do most everything when it comes to the gardens- buying, planting, maintaining, watering. We usually have a landscaper for the grass, bushes and trimming but when Bruce does it, I'll usually be there to help with edging, etc. Yardwork is definitely not my favorite thing but having the flowers look nice are, so I have to kind of give in
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: I do the inside, he does the outside! We planted some shrubs over the weekend and I actually helped, but it was difficult for me...It just doesn't come natural to me and I don't really enjoy it. I told DH..."I can cook, I can't plant"!
