Who is going to have the first baby?
MommyToAshley wrote: This board is fairly new and we haven't had a baby announcement yet. Who do you think is going to have the first baby from the forum? Who has the closest EDD?
supermom replied: I think MamaMartie is pretty close to the first to be due (EDD May 25th) - is there anyone else that's closer?
dolfinrse replied: My due date is on Friday 4-25. I go to the dr. on Friday and we will talk about induction. When I went this past Thursday I was not dilated at all, so hopefully I will have some progress.
MommyToAshley replied: Ohhh... that's really close!
Sending you some quick and easy labor vibes!!! If you have the baby soon, be sure to have someoene come here and let us know...we'll all be sitting on the edge of our seats!!
supermom replied: Me too, me too - some very quick ones!! And easy too!
If they do induce, ask them about giving you something to soften your cervix the night before, it did really seem to make it go better (been induced 2X, once with that and once without). I am not sure what it's called, but it did seem to help!
And do let us know, we'll all be thinking about you on Friday/Saturday!!!
dolfinrse replied: Thanks....I'll be sure to let everyone know how everything goes. I'm on the edge of my seat everyday and everynight thinking today/tonight it's going to happen, but nothing yet.
Thanks for the advice about the softening of the cervix, I have heard nothing but horror stories about being induced. Everyone tells me that it is such a harder labor.
We'll see.
I'll make sure to keep everyone updated.
MommyToAshley replied: There are positives to being induced... I was induced. It seems like labor is a lot quicker. I have only been induced so I don't have anything to compare to, but I didn't have a long labor at all. And, you know when you are going to the hospital so you can prepare...have Grandma's on stand-by and prepare yourself mentally. So, being induced isn't all that bad.
Good Luck...I am excited for you!
Hillbilly Housewife replied: Is this your first baby? I heard horror stories too, and it turned out that my labor was 3 1/2 hours long, from start to finish.
You'll be fine!!!
Hillbilly Housewife replied: Oh...but I wasn't induced, it was all "au naturel"!
supermom replied: I don't think the labor is necessarily harder, and at least for me, both of my induced ones were shorter as far as time actually spent in labor. I think that people think it's "harder" because the contractions get stronger faster is all.....
I've had two non-induced and two induced (both inductions ended in emergency c-sections after full-blown labor, but not because of the inductions, so don't worry about that). From my experience, the contractions of the inductions got stronger a bit faster, so it *does* give you a little less time to "get ready" for them, but as far as one compared to the other, they were both about the same in intensity in the long run for the most part.
The time frame was shorter because for the first part of labor, which didn't take near as long with the inductions as it did with the natural onset of labor is all......
HTH - and good luck -!!! <<HUGS>>
dolfinrse replied: Yes, this is our first, so I have no idea what to expect. Throughout the pregnancy I had kidney stones too, and I have had people tell me that if I could handle the kidney stones that I would be fine during labor.
It is just nerve wracking not knowing when/if I am going to go into labor on my own. I'm just hoping that if the dr. does induce that I won't end up with a c-section after all.
supermom replied: Like I said before, it wasn't because of the induction that I had a C - we went thru labor and were ready to push when all of a sudden the heartrate (when I pushed) dropped.....we found out afterwards it was a prolapsed cord, which I would have probably had anyway, whether or not I had gone into labor on my own.
The first time was my blood pressure - it went SKY HIGH (I was pre-eclampsic) and they were more worried about me - so we did the C/S after I was dilated to almost 8 - so, no, that time didn't have anything to do with the induction either......would have probably had a C/S even with starting on my own......
I think in very few instances "failure to progress" is the reason for a C/S - just hang in there, you'll be fine, I am sure!!!
dhoppygirl replied: I am so nervous for you!! I was a week late and everyday wondered when I would go into labor...let us know how it goes. You will be so excited to meet your baby you won't even notice the labor pains!!
And about the cervix softner, definately ask about that. I was induced with just pitocin and it didn't work (27 hour labor and ended up C-S) I was stuck at a 3 and my baby's head and shoulders were to big to get through, but you know what...I am ready to go through it again because I got a baby out of the deal!!!!
Good luck and I will be wishing you happy natural labor thoughts (and if that doesn't work, induction thoughts )
maestra replied: Something must have been going on around that time-I was 33 hours, but no c-s. I was in major denial but progressed finally once I got the epidural- I loved that epidural! But I would definately do it again!
jdkjd replied: I was induced and it was easy until they broke my water. Then it speeded up to fast and I got an epidural. Total time was 12 hours, but only the fifteen minutes before the epidural and the hour of pushing were hard.
Not bad at all. I would get induced again in a heartbeat.
MamaMartie replied: I am due May 25th, so right now I am 35 weeks. My first came at 38 weeks (induced b/c of size). My second came at 36 weeks (PTL from 30 weeks on) and my 3rd was the same as the 2nd.
But happily I am not having any PTL, and I feel really good. I've had some strong contractions, but nothing I need to go to the hospital for. My main way of telling if I am close to going into real, un-stopable labor is about 7 days before I have a day where all day I feel horrible. I mean so bad that I either want the baby out or I want to die. I also start producing lots of CM (gack!). That is when I know my days are numbered.
So I am truly hoping that dolfiners goes first.
As for induction, I've had some form of it every time. With #1, I wasn't dilated or effaced at all, and I think that was the hardest induction (I was geled several times, they tried morphine, and given pitocin). With the other 2, I stalled out & the babies were showing signs of disress so they sped things up with pitocin.
Honestly induction isn't so bad. I would suggest that you get them to gel you or wait til your cervix is soft and a little dialted and effaced. The pit works a lot better that way. But don't worry about labor & what people tell you (the horror stories any way). The first one is the most diffcult b/c you don't know what to expect. Just try to relax.
Good luck at the OBs!
Martie edd 5/25 with #4
jdkjd replied: I had been 3 cm dilated for a couple weeks so I didn't have to worry about the gel. I felt like she was about to stick a hand out and...
momofajcl replied: I was induced all three times! LOL! The first time my water broke but I wouldn't go into active labor on my own so they induced. I got an epi with that one.
The 2nd time I was 5 days overdue. Christian was just too darn happy inside so they had to force him out LOL! I wanted an epi but it was after 5 PM and the on call anesthesiologist (sp?) was in emergency surgery. He finally showed up when I was pushing!!! I could have strung him up by his *Insert body part here*!!! LOL! It was NOT fun pushing an 8 lb 6 oz. baby out w/o an epi! LOL!
Then, this last time with Nicholas, my water broke and I went into active labor all by myself. I told my midwife I didn't want pitocin (sp?) unless I really, really had to have it. I wanted to do it on my own, so to speak. Anyway...I started running a fever so they had to induce I got my epi right after they started the pitocin dripping. So I've experienced labor with and without pitocin and let me tell you, there IS a difference. My midwife summed it up nicely...without pitocin, you go thru all the different stages of labor, ending in the very, very painful last stage...and I'm pulling a blank on the name of that stage( ARGH! Mommy brain cells! )...which only lasts 10-15 minutes or so. Anyway...labor with pitocin, my midwife describes as being in that last stage for the duration of your entire labor. I think this is true! Anyway...I don't want to scare you...labor is really worth going thru to have that beautiful baby in your arms!
Hillbilly Housewife replied: Well I'm going to have the LAST baby.... heh heh....
momofajcl replied: Are you saying you are pregnant????? LOL!
supermom replied: Yes, but you had the first PG announcement!! -yahoo!!_
Hillbilly Housewife replied: That's what I'm sayin....
