Who knew?

Chris had a really bad sore throat last week. Nothing whatsoever was alleviating the pain. We both had very sore throats at the same time about 2weeks ago, so we attributed this second round of pain as being just that- a second round of the same sore throat as before. The double sided pin feelings in our throats eventually went away. I was not raised to go to the doc at every sniff or sneeze, so I brushed it off -- poor Chris. Well Friday night Chris found out after going to the ER that he had an abscess, and a cyst in his throat & he was admitted early Sat morning. The abscess was on his tonsils. Cannot remember exactly where the cyst was at. He finally was discharged from the hospital this afternoon. The meds he was on were aggressive, since the infection was not subsiding like the doc thought they would. But the ear, nose & throat doc that looked after him was cool as cool could be, I know if we ever have to see an ENT doc again, we know who to look for.
Because of the severe pain he was in, Thursday Thanksgiving meal was the last solid meal he had. Saturday morning through this afternoon were liquids to keep him hydrated- what he called his liquid food. He devoured some chinese food this afternoon when we went out to eat.

Thanks for asking Lisa. Once he was able to start swallowing again (which Sunday morn he was able to) he knew he would be discharged. So being able to swallow again, coupled with wanting to get the h*ll outta the hospital bed, and wanting to eat a solid meal for the first time in 3 days, got him psyched to start "feeling like a million bucks", as he said. He is back to normal enjoying food again. He gets melancholy when he is ill, so now he is back to his normal happy-go-lucky self.

Quite possibly, yes, according to his ENT physician. Apparently when he was driving long haul he had a bout similiar to this (but not to this extent) while in Calif. He was prescribed some meds, and sent on his way. That was six yrs ago. The ENT physician yesterday said that Chris has large tonsils, and this will likely recur for a 3rd time. If it does then they will take his tonsils out at that time.
